00:00Welcome to my life in Sri Lanka in the middle of an economic crisis.
00:10I was planning on getting some fuel today and
00:13my guess I might have to stay for at least 11 to 12 hours in one of those queues.
00:19Hey, good morning. The time right now is 5.37 in the morning and we just had a power cut and
00:33that'll last for about one and a half hours. It is hot, I'm sweaty and slightly annoyed.
00:39I was just in the middle of making my coffee. I usually have it with milk but that is luxury
00:44these days so black coffee it is. It's not that far to the heart of Colombo but the thing is
00:50because of the fuel shortage it has become impossible for us to travel the way we want to.
01:00I always raise my car and you know I try to get to the location as soon as possible but
01:08with the current fuel shortage that we are having my speed limit is always always between
01:1840 to 50 and I can't raise my car so the rpm is really low so it's kind of funny actually.
01:26It's making me a safe driver. So no AC bro, no AC and I sometimes carry my portable fan with me
01:35that I forgot today. I was planning on getting some fuel today and my guess I might have to
01:42stay for at least 11 to 12 hours in one of those queues. That's the line from that side and it goes
01:53on.
02:15I stay in the queue for about two three hours and then when I reach the pump they're like
02:21we don't have petrol miss because we're all out.
02:37So we're still in the middle of an electricity cut right now
02:39so I'm gonna go to the supermarket and get some groceries.
02:51So all of those things have become extremely expensive. 900 oh my god. Since there was no
03:10milk powder this was the only option available in the racks and this is non-fat milk basically.
03:19Look at the price.
03:23It's 410 rupees. It's crazy bro, it's crazy. This
03:32is a luxury now. Can't afford to waste my money basically. It has become really hard for us to find
03:44milk or milk cartons or milk powder so the moment we get to know that some place has it
03:50we quickly run off to that place. It has become extremely difficult since a couple of months to
03:58find gas cylinders which is a basic necessity but there's a huge shortage and it has become
04:06extremely expensive as well. So going back to the old ways, it's kind of fun actually
04:13to cook with fire and wood and it tastes better. For some reason it tastes better.
04:22It has become a habit to charge all my devices before the power cuts
04:26because I want to remain productive and I want to work during that time. There's a power cut
04:32but
04:36so it's better to stay outside.
04:39Hi, hi, hi. Hello, hello.
04:50Financially, mentally, professionally, the financial crisis has hit all of us together.
04:57All of these things have suddenly stopped and you feel stuck because obviously you can't travel
05:05and these places cannot deliver food to us because of the fuel shortage. Most of these
05:10people obviously do not even have the ingredients necessary to cook this food in the first place.
05:16Even the most trivial thing has become an obstacle and a problem. That's how much the life has
05:24changed here in Sri Lanka but hoping for the best. Fingers crossed.
05:29Towards the evening, I decided to show my support to the anti-government protesters by joining them
05:34because as the youth of this country, that is very important to us at this moment.
05:43I made sure to call my friend and see what's happening. At least that way I get to be a part
05:51of it and celebrate being a part of such a massive movement. Yes, it's a difficult period
05:58for all of us but we are so very proud to be Sri Lankans.
