00:00Spooky experiences
00:01I heard the sound of the Payal once
00:05Something is there, something unnatural
00:08We all have grown up listening to horror stories
00:11Well, in my late 20s also, I still get fascinated by these stories
00:16And that's why I'm here at the Haunted Heritage Walk
00:20which has been organised by the Delhi government
00:22Shhh!
00:25Let's go!
00:26Before the walk, the Delhi Tourism Department gave us a manual, postcard, a band, a badge
00:33and a kid band to beat the heat
00:36We can't visit at 9.30 in the night
00:399.30 in the night?
00:40In the forest and lots of...
00:43So we can't, I don't think we can get permission beyond 7 o'clock, right?
00:51So, we are in the middle of this place called Delhi Ridge
00:55and we are going to go to a place called Malcha Mahal
00:59I joined in on one such heritage walk to Malcha Mahal with my camera
01:04The story of this monument is a heady mix of facts, myths and local beliefs
01:11Built in the 14th century by Feroz Atuglaq
01:14Malcha Mahal initially served as a hunting lodge until the 1980s
01:19when the property was assigned to a mysterious family
01:23The occupants of this place for about 30-35 years
01:28was the self-proclaimed Queen of Awadh
01:31So she was Vilayat Mahal and she claimed that she was a descendant of the last Nawab of Awadh
01:37who was Wajid Ali Shah
01:39A claim which was obviously debunked not only by the historians
01:43but also the actual descendants of the Nawab who ended up in Kolkata
01:48So these are the children
01:50That's Prince Cyrus
01:53He used to call himself Cyrus
01:55He was actually Prince Ali Raza
01:58And that's the sister, Princess Sakina
02:02Begum Vilayat Mahal was offered Malcha Mahal by the Indian government
02:07as her new residence in 1984
02:09As we walked towards the Mahal
02:11a walk conductor filled us in on the alleged idiosyncrasies of the family
02:17She gave it a standing instruction that she should be only called her Royal Highness
02:22In fact, she instructed her children also to call her Royal Highness
02:26There were many bloodhounds that they carried here
02:29and they used to leave them all here as security
02:32If there was any intruder, they used to attack them
02:35This Vilayat Mahal committed suicide in 1993
02:41She killed herself
02:43Princess Sakina and Prince Cyrus later revealed that
02:48they ate crushed diamonds and pearls and committed suicide
02:53When the NYT news correspondent asked them these uncomfortable questions
02:59there were no answers
03:00Why a diamond? Who would crush the diamond? Why this, that?
03:03So many questions, the prince evaded them
03:06The place used to be like this only
03:09It was always like this
03:10Yes, it was like this
03:12This is exactly the place where the prince was standing
03:15and getting himself clicked with these dogs
03:19And this is also the place where the dining table used to be
03:23There are old pictures where the dining table is here
03:27and there are carpets all over
03:29There were...
03:31In Hindi, it is called Jangle, Lohe ki Jangle
03:34Grills
03:35There were grills here, they used to install grills
03:37so that these foxes and these other things
03:40foxes don't enter
03:42But what is very very curious is that
03:45they did not have any basic amenities
03:48No running water, no electricity
03:51And they stayed here for 35 years
03:54That makes us even more strange
03:58There is no water connection anywhere
04:00There is no water connection anywhere
04:02Is there a river nearby?
04:03No
04:04There is nothing?
04:05No
04:06If you look at these, these nails
04:08Nails have been hammered into it
04:11So there must be some type of curtains
04:13Some sort of curtain, some sort of makeshift thing
04:17The entire wall is blackened
04:19It looks like there was a makeshift kitchen over here
04:22There is a makeshift bathroom here
04:27This is an old photo of them
04:29There is a bathtub on the side, can you see it?
04:32I will just do this
04:34This looks like this place only
04:38In that corner
04:39You know he died mysteriously on one fine day in 2017
04:52At night it has been seen that
04:54the queen, Vilayat Mahal
04:58In the middle of the night she used to be seen standing
05:02Very tall and strange looking woman
05:04In the middle of the night standing on the roof of Malcha Mahal
05:07So you know that sort of aura and that image
05:10And this kind of very strange behaviour and mannerisms
05:13Contributed to that legend and the myth
05:16Some people heard the sound of anklets over here
05:19One day I also by the way heard the sound of anklets over here
05:23The children have said that
05:25After she died we stayed with the dead body for many days
05:30We did not want to let her go and things like that
05:33The feeling of horror is not there now
05:35I was feeling it at night
05:37At 9.30 at least
05:39We should have left
05:40And this would have been really creepy then
05:42I had read about this in the newspaper
05:44And then the fact that this is in the wilderness
05:47So I think that adds to the charm
05:49You are roaming alone
05:51And you feel something like this
05:52What will you do?
05:53I won't do anything, only he will do
05:56Throughout the walk I was with my crew
05:58I was with the crowd over there
06:00But right now I am walking alone
06:02There is no one behind me
06:05And when I see obviously there is this spooky
06:08There is this hollow feel to it
06:11And like one guide said Atulji
06:14That if in winters we were to conduct such walks
06:19The scenario would have been very different
06:21Because at this hour it would have been dark
06:24It would have been foggy
06:26And the whole place would have a mystic vibe altogether
06:31So yeah, that was the walk guys
