00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the best dragon Pokémon.
00:19Number 20, Altaria.
00:25Just because they're dragon types doesn't mean they have to look like dragons.
00:29Altaria is a blue, bird-like dragon-slash-flying Pokémon whose fluffy, cloud-like wings and
00:36dimpled cheeks give it a cuddly appearance.
00:39Its mega evolution adds not only the fairy type to the mix, but also even more fluff.
00:48However, looks can be deceiving, since Altaria is as fierce as its fellow dragons.
00:57Being known as Altaria is particularly terrifying.
01:01Nobody expects that thing to use Earthquake.
01:03Getting ranked by one after challenging that gym certainly makes everyone want one for
01:08themselves.
01:17Number 19, Paxcalibur.
01:24Dragon can take inspiration from a lot of places, and this one is derived from the King
01:29of Monsters, Godzilla.
01:31Everything from its axe-like spine to its signature move, Glaive Rush, is derived from
01:36cinema's most famous reptilian kaiju.
01:40But Paxcalibur is more than just a Godzilla tribute.
01:44The unholy fusion of dragon and its oldest foe, the ice type, Paxcalibur sports some
01:50truly overwhelming attack power.
01:57Whether it attacks with its icy breath, powerful claws, or that massive back spine, Paxcalibur
02:03will deal some atomic-level damage.
02:06Godzilla would be proud.
02:13Number 18, Reshiram and Zekrom.
02:20This pair of Pokemon are the mascots for Black and White.
02:24Both have similar designs, being winged dragons with each of their tails lighting up once
02:29they enter Overdrive mode.
02:31Reshiram is the White Dragon Fire type and is a stronger special attacker, while Zekrom
02:37is a Black Dragon Electric type with greater physical attack strength.
02:50Reshiram has a more mystical appearance, while Zekrom has echoes of technology in its design.
02:56We honestly couldn't decide between them, but then again, they should both be used to
03:01being combined.
03:02More on that soon.
03:10Number 17, Naganadel.
03:17Resembling a mix between a dragon and a wasp, Naganadel certainly has plenty of sting to
03:23it.
03:24And not just because of the enormous needle that takes up half of its body.
03:28The Ultra Beast is both poison and dragon type, which helps cancel out the latter's
03:33biggest weakness, Fairy.
03:35Its arsenal of venomous and draconic moves help it dish out plenty of deadly damage.
03:41Ash certainly makes good use of his Naganadel in the anime, which helps him overcome the
03:46Alolan Champion.
03:51Although those with a fear of needles will probably avoid it, for the rest of us, Naganadel
03:57is a welcome Pokémon for how it seems.
04:04Number 16, Kyurem.
04:10The dragon mascot Pokémon for Black and White 2, Kyurem is another dragon ice type.
04:17A grey dragon with blue, icy wings and head crests, Kyurem has an interesting connection
04:23to the original Black and White mascots.
04:26Although it's already an immensely powerful Pokémon, Kyurem is able to fuse with either
04:31Zekrom or Rattram to become Black or White Kyurem.
04:42Along with taking on characteristics of whichever it fuses with, Kyurem becomes even stronger
04:47and can use their signature abilities.
04:50It's not every Pokémon that uses a legendary as a power-up.
04:59Number 15, Kyurem and Kyurem.
05:07Another duo of dragon mascots, Kyurem and Kyurem are the faces of Pokémon Scarlet and
05:13Pokémon Violet, respectively.
05:16The duo are legendary paradox Pokémon, meaning that they're from different times, although
05:21there's indication that they're distantly related.
05:25Kyurem is from the ancient past and is a fighting dragon type, meanwhile Kyurem is electric
05:31dragon and from the future.
05:34Both Pokémon act as mounts for the player during the game, aiding the player in traversing
05:38various terrains through different actions or forms.
05:42Given their usefulness both in and out of battle, as well as their striking vehicle
05:47meets dragon designs, it's no wonder Kyurem and Kyurem have proven so popular.
05:59Number 14, Dragapult.
06:05We have no idea what the folks at Pokémon were thinking when they dreamt up Dragapult's
06:10design, but we're still glad for the results.
06:12A ghost dragon that launches little versions of itself from its head may be incredibly
06:18weird, but Dragapult is as strong as it is bizarre.
06:22Dragon Ghost is a fantastic typing and with its signature move, Dragon Dance, Dragapult
06:28can hit hard and fast.
06:36The near-permanent troll expression on its face is appropriate, since anyone using Dragapult
06:42in battle is almost guaranteed to be clowning on their opponent.
06:51Number 13, Hydreigon.
06:57Hydreigon certainly turned heads during Pokémon's outing into black and white, which is an impressive
07:02feat by itself considering these games are packed to the brim with ungodly strong dragon
07:08types.
07:12Its brutality is infamous among the Unova region, said to attack anything that crosses
07:18its path.
07:20Considering that its strength earned it a place in the villain Gattus' personal team,
07:25we'd say this is one to keep an eye out for.
07:29Number 12, Latios and Latias.
07:37Another legendary Pokémon duo, Latios and Latias are a pair of jet-plane-like dragons.
07:44This duo of dragon-psychic Pokémon sport very similar designs, although Latios is mostly
07:50blue and Latias is mostly red.
07:53They get even more similar when they mega-evolve, since they both turn pipple-ish.
08:03As alike as they are, they are different in some ways.
08:07Latios is always male and stronger offensively, while Latias is consistently female and more
08:14defensive.
08:15Regardless of which you favor, this pair of dragons have long been favorites among fans
08:21thanks to their great designs, which are simultaneously cute and sleek.
08:29Number 11, Haxorus.
08:37Another one of Unova's awesome additions, Haxorus may not be as powerful or as difficult
08:42to obtain as Hydreigon, but that doesn't stop it from being as cool.
08:52It's extremely territorial and won't hesitate to put those bladed scales to good use.
08:58There's definitely a potential recruit for any wandering trainer looking to add a little
09:03more bite to their team.
09:05And for those still not convinced, gym leaders Drayden and Iris were very quick to show just
09:11how deadly this Pokemon really is.
09:22Number 10, Dracovish.
09:28Perhaps the most bizarre dragon type of all, Dracovish is essentially a fish head stuck
09:34on the tail and legs of a dragon.
09:37This water dragon type may look like it was designed by Picasso, but Dracovish has been
09:43a surprisingly strong force among competitive Pokemon battles.
09:47Its signature move, Fischius Rend, deals double damage if you hit your opponent first.
09:53This, along with its other powerful chomping attacks, has allowed it to take a bite out
09:58of its competition.
10:00Despite its hodgepodge appearance, there's nothing slapdash about Dracovish's power.
10:15Number 9, Dialga and Palkia.
10:21Their rivalry ripples across the cosmos, often with disastrous consequences.
10:27Dialga has the power of time, while Palkia can manipulate the fabric of space.
10:32Both helped to create the region of Sinnoh, and were the targets of the wicked organization
10:37Team Galactic in their plot to recreate the entire universe.
10:50While their secondary types of steel and water make them juggernauts in their own right,
10:55it's their signature techniques that make them worth the master ball.
11:07Number 8, Flygon.
11:14Regarded as the desert spirit across the region of Hoenn, this mystic Pokemon is most well-known
11:21for the sound it makes when its wings flap, almost like it's singing.
11:26While that all sounds very pleasant, make no mistake that Flygon still has the fury
11:30that Dragon types are known for.
11:36Evolving from the rather unremarkable Trapinch, it's well worth the effort in training one
11:41up when you're on your way to take the Pokemon League.
11:49Number 7, Goodra.
11:57Somehow pulling off the feats of being both slimy and huggable, Goodra is like Barney
12:02the Dinosaur crossed with a slug.
12:05Its default form is a pure Dragon type, while its Hisuian variant adds a snail shell and
12:11the steel typing to the mix.
12:13Despite its adorable, somewhat derpy appearance, Goodra is a force to be reckoned with in battle.
12:29Its incredible special defence makes it practically a wall against special attacks, and its other
12:34stats aren't too shabby either.
12:36So whether you're looking for a friend or a surprising powerhouse Pokemon, Goodra is
12:42a good choice.
12:48Number 6, Giratina.
12:55Say hello to the Pokemon Devil.
12:58Occupying a plane of reality known as the Distortion World, Giratina lends a hand in
13:03the creation of the Sinnoh region.
13:06The difference being, it's strong enough to lay the smackdown on both Dialga and Palkia.
13:20Though what would you expect from a Pokemon that represents anti-matter?
13:24To top it all off, it has access to various forms, so you can choose which brand of horror
13:30you want to inflict on your opponents, should you manage to capture it.
13:42Number 5, Mega Charizard X.
13:50The poster child for Mega Evolutions everywhere, just when you may have thought that Charizard's
13:55popularity may have waned, he gets a makeover that shows that you can indeed teach an old
14:01dog… er… dragon new tricks.
14:04Literally spitting blue flames with every breath, the fact that Charizard finally got
14:09a form where he was classed as a dragon type was more than enough for us.
14:19Favouring attack power over all else, you'll be busting out this form every chance you
14:24get when you want to demolish your opponents.
14:33Number 4, Salamence.
14:37Evolving from the less-than-impressive Bagon, its final form was nothing short of an engine
14:43of sheer destruction.
14:45No wonder it's the crown jewel belonging to the Hoenn region's strongest member of
14:49the Elite Four.
14:50Preferring rough terrain, this thing is all about power.
14:54So prepare yourself for quite the tussle, unless you have a Pokémon that can counter
14:58its flames and claws.
15:05And yes, in case you were wondering, such power does earn it the title of a pseudo-legendary,
15:11and it even has a Mega Evolution.
15:18Number 3, Garchomp.
15:25Becoming an instant classic upon discovery, who would have thought that the adorable but
15:29dopey-looking Gible would become a pseudo-legendary that would often spell doom for unprepared
15:35trainers?
15:41Able to fly so fast that it breaks the sound barrier, its intimidating look and insane
15:46attack power were reason enough, alone, to want to snatch one up.
15:51In fairness, its infamy probably arose from the Garchomp that belonged to Pokémon Champion
15:56Cynthia.
15:57That thing was a beast.
16:08Number 2, Dragonite.
16:17Nowadays we may have more Dragon types than we know what to do with, but way back in Generation
16:221, all we had was the evolutionary line starting from Dratini, leading into Dragonite, and
16:29they were glorious.
16:30As a pseudo-legendary, this beast has power in spades, and would be a welcome addition
16:36to any team of any generation.
16:46As for its appearance in the anime, its presence is still going strong.
16:50From its mysterious first sighting, its climactic battle against Ash's Pikachu, all the way
16:55to the modern series in Ash's team.
16:58So how about a Mega Dragonite, Game Freak?
17:23Number 1, Rayquaza.
17:29The legendary Pokémon that has still yet to be toppled in the minds of fans everywhere,
17:34this ozone-faring dragon overshadowed its counterparts and made it the ultimate challenge
17:40for third-generation fans, who probably wished they hadn't wasted a Master Ball earlier.
17:50Aside from its array of techniques that can decimate its foes, Rayquaza's impact on
17:59the series has been so strong it has yet to be matched, and from the looks of things,
18:05it won't be pushed from its perch anytime soon, given that it has a mega evolution that
18:10somehow managed to make it even more daunting.
18:21Is there a mighty Pokémon dragon you're mighty disappointed we forgot?
18:25Roar out your favorites in the comments below.
