Patrick Mouratoglou has said that Jannik Sinner has all the on-court qualities of Novak Djokovic‘s game, but hits the ball earlier, and moves into the net more than the Serbian legend.
In the latest episode of Eye of the Coach, Mouratoglou explains that, whilst Carlos Alcaraz may be able to play at a higher level and possesses more weapons than the Italian, it is Jannik Sinner’s ability to stay consistent that has lifted him to the world No 1 ranking.
The Frenchman goes on to say:
“You have the guys who are not missing and the guys who have fire in their racket, and Sinner has both.”

00:00You had the guys who were not missing and the guys who were at the fire in the racket and Sinner has both
00:07I think what makes Sinner very special is his ability to play at an incredibly high pace without missing
00:14First of all, I think he's one of the guys who plays the fastest because of the way he hits the ball
00:18But also because of his movement he's moving forward all the time that makes it extremely difficult to play against him
00:23Plus his movement is unbelievable. So basically when you attack him he counter punches
00:27He has the qualities of Novak in terms of counter punching
00:30And I think he plays at a higher pace than Novak taking the balls earlier moving forward
00:34more and when you're very aggressive taking the balls early giving no time to your opponent and making an extremely limited number of
00:40Unforced errors. I mean how do you play against a guy like that?
00:43And he improved his serve lately, which is very important
00:46And if you look at the matches when it's key moments, he hits aces and his return is amazing
00:50So you have to hurt him
00:51You have to be able to play at an incredibly high pace too because he's okay with any type of ball
00:55You can play with spin top spin. You can play with slice. You can play fast. You can play slow
00:59He's never in trouble and every time he's going to be the one that's going to attack you and I think before he was having
01:05Most of his aggressive shots were coming from the forehand
01:08And now he's able to be as aggressive with the back and also and change direction really easily
01:12Whatever ball you hit you're in danger all the time
01:14I think it makes sense to call him Djokovic 2.0 because movement counter punching
01:18Unbelievable same qualities as Novak and I think he added 2.0 because he's playing faster by taking the balls earlier
01:24He's moving up all the time so far
01:26I see mostly Alcaraz beating him because Alcaraz can create more
01:30He has this extra power and he can fight with him in terms of movement
01:34Also, the thing is Alcaraz is making quite a lot of unforced errors where Sinner doesn't so the matches between them
01:39there are a lot of ups and downs and it changes often, you know when he's leading than the other one because
01:44When Alcaraz plays at his best, I think he's able to be better than Sinner
01:48But he cannot play like this the whole match so and Sinner is always stable
01:52So that's why the matches are so close every time. Sinner can hit a winner on every single shot
01:56That's the feeling and that's quite disturbing
01:58You can never relax you feel you cannot build because you're always in danger always on every shot
02:03But what I think the most important is not that you are in danger on every shot
02:07Which is the case is that he does it with consistency. Everything is controlled
02:10He has this level of aggressiveness with the control at the same time and that's what's making him so special
02:15I think that Sinner has really the modern game at his best
02:19We've seen this evolution throughout the years first with a serve because players started to be taller and serve better
02:25The return because when you have those serves you have to be able to return better
02:28I mean before in tennis that you had the guys who were not missing and the guys were
02:33Had the fire in the racket and Sinner has both. He has the fire in the racket
02:36But more thanks to his movement and and he doesn't miss so that's the modern game. Sinner can still improve
02:41He can improve his volley. He can improve his drop shots
02:44It's things that he has improved already, but it's not at the level of the rest of his game
02:48Yeah, he does much less things than Alcaraz. Alcaraz has many more tools than him
02:53But what he does at the level he does it makes him number one in the world
