00:00E-sport is such a great sport because sex doesn't matter skill-wise.
00:07The problem is the community that makes it much, much harder for girls and non-binary to get into the pro scene and even just to play the game.
00:17It's moving towards the right directions but it's going way too slow.
00:20I'm Lily, I'm from Stockholm and I am the co-founder of Female Legends, which is an e-sport community for girls.
00:42The Women's E-sport League is a league for girls all over Europe.
00:46The goal with Female Legends is to get girls into the pro scene.
00:52Now in Sweden they're starting a lot of big mixed tournaments.
00:55The problem with mixed tournaments is that there's usually no girls or very, very few girls.
01:04A lot of people that don't have a lot of other friends, they tend to turn to the gaming community.
01:08Or they don't fit in the school or in the group with friends they have.
01:15I mean that was my story. I didn't really fit in at school so I went home and I was playing games.
01:21And I think a lot of guys feel like it's their place.
01:25What they don't get is that I have the same story. This is my safe space.
01:39I started playing computer games when I was three years old.
01:43My mom had just met my stepdad and she was asking this new guy,
01:46could you take care of Lily for tonight?
01:48And then she came home and it was way too late, maybe half past one or something, and I was coming running to her.
01:53Mom, mom, we're shooting Germans!
01:55She was like, oh, that's nice honey.
02:03After that she took a look at the kind of games we were playing.
02:07So some games we were not allowed to play.
02:10So we just did it in secret when she didn't know.
02:12But that's where it started.
02:14And then with the online, like when I started to eSport, it was maybe when I was seven, eight,
02:20when I was playing mostly with my stepdad and my little sister.
02:30A lot of girls give up because they don't think that they can have a future.
02:34So we're trying to show them that there's also a lot of different things that you can do.
02:38You can absolutely go pro, but you can also, you know, you can become a caster,
02:41or you can become a community manager, or you can become a coach.
02:46You can do a lot of things around eSport and around gaming.
02:50And a lot of girls feel alone, so that's also one of the tips.
02:53It's like, you're not alone. Reach out. We're here.
02:57The community with girls gaming is really, really nice and also really professional.
