00:00This is gonna put a whole new spin on I got you, babe. If you one of those people
00:06When you see Sonny and Cher's names you immediately start humming
00:12Yes, cuz you were just doing it I literally
00:15Cher is revealing a lot about their relationship and their marriage in her new memoir
00:21Which is simply called Cher part one the memoir Cher the memoir part one
00:27But she's talking about a period early in their relationship in their marriage rather and where they were having some
00:35Marital strife because she had told him she was unhappy and went so far as to say that she wanted to
00:41sleep with their guitarist a guy named Bill and
00:45While they were performing their show in Las Vegas. It all came to a head one morning. She says when she
00:52Came down to have some breakfast. She says one morning. I came down to breakfast
00:56And he Sonny surprised me by saying, you know
01:00After you went off with Bill that night at the Sahara. I seriously thought about throwing you off our balcony
01:07Cher replied. Oh you did did you?
01:10Well, there would have been no need to push me because I was gonna jump
01:14Wow, so what's really interesting of 72?
01:18yeah, what's interesting is they stayed married for years after that and this was famously a
01:25Rocky and ultimately toxic relationship, you know where Sonny controlled Cher
01:31And that's well documented but going to those lengths that early on is really stunning
01:38It's really really stunning
01:39I think what kind of says a lot about the relationship too is she says they after they had this conversation
01:44They both laughed about it like the ridiculousness of I wanted to kill you
01:47Well, I wanted to kill myself first and then he laughs because what else could you do?
01:50That's sort of their relationship like you laugh about it you put on that public face
01:53But it was so dark and so horrible and not meant to be, you know
01:57It's really you know, what's really interesting about this is that when Sonny died?
02:01tragically
02:02Cher spoke at his funeral and
02:05Gave a really
02:08emotional
02:10emotional tribute to Sonny, um, I
02:14Guess when I think about it
02:16It really isn't that surprising because there was a lot of good and a lot of bad in that relationship
02:21And you don't necessarily want to bring that bad front and center at an event like that
02:27But she was effusive about Sonny then and I'm not saying it was disingenuous because it was no wasn't it was just part of
02:34their relationship
02:36Complicated. Well, I think what I think that's a lot of relationships
02:38You know the the badness the things that were so toxic in the early 70s for them
02:42By the time he died were 25 years in the rearview and you know, they both raised their child together
02:46so you only remember the good things at that point and you tend to cling on to that and like the stuff that
02:51You know made you want to jump off a balcony you forget about that and then you write it in a memoir though, right?
02:58And then you write a memoir
03:00part one part one
03:02Well, look her life is one of the most interesting lives of people in show business. What was it Eric?
03:08She's had three careers in music
03:11So many careers so many comebacks in one an Oscar like it's one of the most interesting careers in entertainment history
03:15Really is you really want part to like what is she gonna say about like Greg Allman and the pizza delivery boy?
03:20Right all the people that everything that's happened since then. I don't know that the pizza delivery. Oh the pizza delivery guy
03:26Absolutely. He's gonna make it on what stories she has to tell about
03:30You hope you're around for part two. Hey, this is Vicki from Mississippi
03:35You know back then so much was kept off of social media about what happens in relationships
03:42And so I feel like now with them being more open they can talk more about how intense their love was together
03:49And sometimes being so intense
03:52It's not always healthy. So it's kind of toxic
03:55and so I think maybe he just loved her that much that he became toxic and didn't want to leave her and so
04:02you know there they were in this relationship with the kid and
04:06Trying to make it work and he just loved her intensely enough that it maybe just wasn't that healthy
04:11Well, you know, she also says in the book that he screwed her over because when they got divorced
04:16She assumed each person got half and that there were documents that she had signed where Sonny got
04:2390% and she basically got no money. So it was a
04:27It was toxic
