Epic sandworm rides across the desert of Arrakis, a thrilling gladiator battle involving a rhino and a display of the unmitigated feeling of pure Anxiety —those are just a few scenes and characters that have entertained audiences this past year, none of which would be possible without the artisans who make the magic happen behind the scenes.

00:00I know that Hans didn't want me to tell any secrets,
00:04but as an editor you're in the sort of still point of a turning world.
00:08You're a front row seat for all this amazing
00:11work that is coming from art department, from VFX, from
00:16the actors, from the writer, and one great particular joy on June was
00:23sitting in a huddle around Hans in Hans's studio one day
00:28and we'd asked him a really impossible musical task which was to bend
00:34a tune towards a different character that it in some way
00:38perhaps wasn't intended for and there was this wonderful moment where
00:42he was playing on the piano very intently and things went quiet for quite
00:47a long time and nobody said anything so I thought
00:50after a while I will chip in and just say Hans what are you
00:55looking for right now and he looked at me and he said
01:00I'm looking for a musical idea with the efficiency
01:04of the word fuck and I kind of, it's dwelt on me, I'm sorry
01:11for swearing, I am British, not the first person on stage to say it,
01:15but I've been trying to look for the same
01:18kind of efficiencies, doesn't quite convey but it's to extend
01:24the passion I feel for this story and for these characters,
01:28for this mood, and of course for this fantastic
01:32team of people that I get to work with under the
01:35great leadership of our beloved leader Denny V. Nerve, so
01:40thank you so much for recognizing this. Hamilton,
01:43I'm particularly touched because as an editor we have
01:47a very ancient proto-indo-european word together
01:53in common and that is dimun which is the source of the word
01:56time and also the source of the word to divide into pieces
02:01or cutting, so I'd like to say that we're sort of
02:05blended in that way and thank you of course to
02:08Jaz Tanke, Carolyn Giardina and all those who tirelessly work at
02:13Variety to shed a little light on the creativity and passion
02:18that we feel for our craft behind the camera. Thank you very very much.
