00:00Spanish authorities continue efforts to clear sewer systems following severe floods in the
00:07Valencia region.
00:11Gisele Pellico gave her closing statement on Tuesday in one of France's biggest rape
00:16trials in recent history.
00:19Welcome the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, joining us live.
00:26A long ovation for a visibly touched Volodymyr Zelensky.
00:32This is how the European Parliament commemorated 1,000 days of war in Ukraine.
00:37And in his speech, Zelensky targeted the enemy once again.
00:41You know very well that Putin does not value people or rules.
00:46He values only money and power.
00:48These are the things we must take away from him to restore peace.
00:53The president of the European Parliament, Roberto Mezzolla, has insisted on her support
00:57for Ukraine before elect president of the United States Donald Trump swears into office
01:01after which everything can change.
01:02Today, we send a clear, simple message.
01:08We stand with Ukraine until freedom, until real peace.
01:14EU buildings in Brussels had projections of the Ukrainian flag as a symbol of solidarity
01:17on Monday.
01:18Zelensky has called on the EU to push harder before conditions for his country worsen.
01:28Giselle Pellicot, who was subjected to mass rape by her husband and dozens of other men
01:33for over a decade, said that macho patriarchal society should change its attitude on rape.
01:40She gave her closing statement to court on Tuesday in one of France's biggest criminal
01:45trials in recent history.
01:48Pellicot called it a trial of cowardice, referring to the men who claimed they didn't realize
01:53it was rape.
01:55The abuse was discovered in 2020 after police stumbled upon videos and pictures her husband
02:01had recorded of it.
02:03The trial could have been held behind closed doors, but Pellicot requested for it to be
02:07held in public, saying she hoped it would help other women speak up.
02:12The case shocked the country and triggered nationwide protests in her support.
02:17A verdict is expected to be delivered by the end of December.
02:26Clean-up efforts continue following severe flooding in Spain's Valencia region, with
02:31sewer blockages now the main concern for authorities.
02:37Workers have been attempting to free up the sewers for about a week, injecting water to
02:41soften the mud and absorb it through another pipe.
02:46So far, 60% of Paiporta's 75-kilometre sewage system has been cleared, but the sewers are
02:53still not being drained.
02:55There are also garages that are still full of mud, which can cause leaks in the drinking
03:18water network.
03:20However, Spain's public health says few infections have been detected, and those that have been
03:25are only minor.
03:30The citizens of Georgia took to the streets on Tuesday morning, demanding fresh parliamentary
03:35elections after what they call was a rigged election with Russia's assistance.
03:41The governing Georgian Dream Party was established by billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, who made
03:47his fortune in Russia, and only narrowly won the vote back in October.
03:53In Tbilisi, police broke up demonstrations, several people were arrested.
03:59Ivanishvili's party has recently pushed through laws similar to those used by the Kremlin
04:04to crack down on freedom of speech and LGBTQ rights.
04:10The EU suspended Georgia's membership application process indefinitely in June after the country's
04:16parliament passed a law requiring organizations that receive more than 20% of their funding
04:21from abroad to register as quote, pursuing the interests of a foreign power.
04:33Slovakian and Hungarian politicians strongly condemned the decision by US President Joe
04:38Biden to allow Ukraine to strike targets inside Russia with American-supplied longer-range
04:44missiles.
04:45Slovakia's populist Prime Minister Robert Fico said the decision was made with the clear
04:50aim to completely thwart or delay peace talks.
04:55Hungary's foreign minister also lashed out against the decision, saying the move could
05:12serve to escalate the war and threaten the outbreak of a global conflict.
05:42The shift in policy added an uncertain new factor to Russia's full-on invasion of Ukraine.
05:53With the Kremlin warning the decision adds fuel to the fire of the war and would escalate
05:58international tensions even further.
06:05Coalition negotiations have officially begun in Austria following several rounds of exploratory
06:11talks. Seven weeks after the national elections, a preliminary decision on Austria's future
06:16government was made on Monday. The far-right Freedom Party won the national elections in
06:22September. However, Austria's federal president gave the mandate to form a government to the
06:27runner-up, Karl Nehammer of the Austrian People's Party, as no party was willing to work together
06:32with the FPƖ and its party head, Herbert Kickl.
06:35I would like to inform you today that we have completed the exploratory phase and formally
06:41start government negotiations with the FPƖ and NEOS. At the same time, I would like to
06:46make it clear that we have not yet reached the goal of a coalition or a joint government
06:52program. We are now going into deep government negotiations that touch on many detailed areas.
06:59The outcome of these negotiations is still open.
07:05Nehammer's coalition with the Social Democrats and liberals excludes the FPƖ. A three-party
07:11alliance, as is being proposed, would be a first in Austria.
07:16EU buildings across Brussels have been lit up in the colours of the Ukrainian flag to
07:24mark the 1,000th day since Russia invaded in 2022.
07:30As of August this year, almost 12,000 civilians were reported as killed in Ukraine, according
07:36to UN figures.
07:40UNICEF says that figure includes 2,406 children.
07:46In Kiev, a memorial to those lost continues to grow, with national flags placed to honour
07:51each soldier killed while fighting Russia.
07:59Speaking at the end of the first day of the G20 summit in Brazil, UK Prime Minister Keir
08:04Starmer promised the UK would double down on its support for Kiev as Ukraine marks 1,000
08:10days of Russia's full-scale invasion.
08:11That's 1,000 days of aggression from Russia and 1,000 days of sacrifice from Ukraine.
08:17We need to double down. We need to make sure Ukraine has what is necessary for as long
08:21as necessary, because we cannot allow Putin to win this war.
08:26President Emmanuel Macron mirrored Starmer's sentiment and said it is France's duty to
08:31help Ukraine protect its territory.
08:34He added that the change in the conflict triggered by the involvement of North Korean troops
08:38should not be underestimated.
08:40The only force that makes a step forward in this conflict today is Russia, by engaging
08:47in a nuclear program with long-range missiles. It is a break in this war that led to this
08:58choice of the Americans.
09:00Leaders of the world's 20 major economies also issued a joint declaration in which they
09:04called for a global pact to combat hunger, more aid for Gaza and to end the hostilities
09:09in the Middle East.
09:15Israeli airstrikes targeted a neighborhood in the heart of Beirut late Monday evening.
09:21Lebanon's health ministry said at least five people were killed and 31 wounded.
09:27The strikes targeted government and diplomatic buildings, said Lebanon's state-run national
09:32news agency, but others aren't so sure.
09:35We fled the village to Beirut. They are hitting the emigrants. They are hitting the emigrants.
09:46They are not leaving anyone. May God protect Hezbollah.
09:50To these images, U.S. Envoy Amos Hochstein arrived to the war-torn city this Tuesday.
09:57His aim? To finally find a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
10:01I came back because we have a real opportunity to bring this conflict to an end.
10:09This is a moment of decision-making.
10:12I'm here in Beirut to facilitate that decision, but it's ultimately the decision of the parties
10:19to reach a conclusion to this conflict. It is now within our grasp.
10:27Meanwhile, the Israeli military has released a video in which it claimed to show Israeli
10:31soldiers conducting operations in southern Lebanon.
10:35The army said its troops found a weapons depot, including ammunition, firearms and explosives.
10:48The so-called president of Abkhazia, Al-Sambazania, has resigned following widespread protests
10:55against an investment deal which opponents claim would increase Russian influence in the region.
11:02Demonstrators stormed government buildings last Friday, forcing Bazania to flee and plunging
11:08the self-declared republic into political turmoil.
11:15The president has said he will withdraw his resignation if protesters do not leave the buildings
11:20in the capital, Sukhumi, by Tuesday.
11:26The unrest was sparked by opposition to a property agreement between Abkhazia and Russia,
11:31which would allow Russian companies to invest in the region.
11:37Opponents of the agreement argue that it would inflate property prices and increase Moscow's influence.
