00:00Levitation is something ripped straight out of science fiction.
00:07However, one London-based startup has developed this, a device which can raise and manipulate
00:12small objects with sound waves, and it's absolutely wild.
00:16Acoustophab calls the device a pressure cage, and it utilizes an array of 256 speakers.
00:22Each one resonates with a 40 kilohertz frequency, which is outside the range of human audibility
00:26and ultrasound.
00:28The researchers say they turn each speaker on and off at the exact right interval to
00:31raise an object and hold it in place.
00:33They then use computer models to change the shape of the sound waves, allowing them to
00:37manipulate and move the object however they desire.
00:40And they say the device has myriad uses.
00:42Here's co-founder of Acoustophab, Shubhi Bansal, to explain.
00:45When it is done generally in a container, it is in 2D, and it can't be explored from
00:50all the dimensions, and also the drug infusion and other efficiency decrease.
00:54What we are saying is, put it in 3D, you can do everything in 3D without a container, which
00:59creates an impact, increases the efficiency, and can actually provide another dimension
01:04for the life sciences reactions.
01:06With the co-founder adding, the device could revolutionize many industries, including healthcare.
