Holsworthy farmers have come together to protests the changes to inheritance tax announced by the government
Transcript
00:00We find ourselves in a role that the market takes is acting as a meeting point for many groups of the farming folk from a very wide area.
00:10They can come and not only do business, they can come and discuss their ideas, discuss their thoughts, and more importantly, their problems.
00:20This event has been organised today and primarily was instigated by Jane Whelan from Pembroke Vets, and I think she deserves a round of applause.
00:38For coming up with the idea, we were very, very pleased and happy to facilitate today.
00:43She's the instigator of the event, and we thank her very, very much.
00:46It enables us all to show our support here in Holsby, the farming community that's so important around Yemen and Cornwall.
00:55Not all of us are able to travel to London today, and I think it's a great idea.
00:59And the incredible number, I'm embarrassed to tell you how many people I thought may attend here, and this is so, so much greater.
01:06And we really appreciate you all coming today, showing that support, and we thank you all very much.
01:13We offer those that have gone to London our complete support.
01:17On behalf of Kibbles and Pembroke Vets, we thank you all for attending today and for all showing that support.
01:25I'm not particularly political at all, but for the first time in my career, and almost my life, we are faced with a socialist government.
01:34We've had Labour governments over time, but we appear to be facing true socialist policies at the moment in time.
01:41The distribution of wealth seems a high priority with the incumbent government.
01:46In pursuit of this, some of their policies appear to be vindictive.
01:50Their policies appear to be anti-farming, anti-countryside, and also anti-business.
01:58You only need to look at Holdsworth Industrial Estate to understand how important farming is for Devon and Cornwall.
02:05The majority of businesses on that estate are almost entirely related to agriculture, and it's an estate that is rapidly expanding.
02:14Like Marsh Barton is Europe's, in Exeter, is Europe's biggest selection of car dealerships,
02:20Holdsworth Industrial Estate must be comparable for tractors.
02:27When farming and agriculture suffer, the whole area suffers.
02:32Our hard-working farmers are the backbone of our rural communities, and the family farms are their very essence.
02:40The loss, or even the reduction, of our family farming heritage within this area would be utterly devastating.
02:59We salute those in London, and hope they can bring some sense to Bale.
03:05With so many of you here today, with so many voices, we've got two rooms with mics,
03:11we'd like anybody that feels they'd like to say a few words.
03:14The initial idea was to bring us together so we could just support those in London and talk the problems through.
03:20With such an audience, I think it would be great to hear some of your views and thoughts on this subject.
03:26So if you'd like to speak, please put your hand up.
03:28I know we've got representatives from FCN here, and other such organisations.
03:32So if you'd like to speak, please put your hand up.
