Culloville U21 captain James King spoke to us yesterday evening after his side won the Championship with a remarkable last-gasp goal in stoppage time.
Transcript
00:00James, where do you start with that? A wonderful way to win a game. Dramatic. How good did that feel after the couple of overheads?
00:07Jesus Christ. You can't describe it like the winning game like that. I thought we were dead and buried. I thought we were down and out.
00:14We had that never say die attitude. Thankfully it paid off all the work over the last three months. So it did.
00:20How did that feel when the ball hit the net?
00:22Jesus Christ, it was mental. You couldn't write it. Serious. So it was.
00:27You're puffing and panting. I don't blame you because it was a serious effort put in all across the board from Cullerville today. You'll be feeling that tomorrow morning.
00:34Definitely. The bodies were sore. We knew we were going to bring a test. We knew it wasn't going to be easy.
00:40But we dug deep and showed that never say die attitude. It really sucked to us in the end. So it did.
00:47The way you defended as a unit throughout the game was very disciplined. It's obviously something you've been working on.
00:51Definitely. At the start of the year we set out to be the hardest working team. The team that was getting the most tackles and blocks.
00:58We had that for every ball attitude. That's what we prided ourselves on. Working hard in defence, turning the ball over and then the forwards looked after it themselves.
01:08You had the firepower up there. Quinn put the ball in. We think we've given it to Tygo O'Neill. I don't know who's going to claim that one.
01:14I don't know who's claiming it but I don't think anyone really cares as long as it went in.
01:18That's a good answer. You've won the U21 Championship now but it really bodes well for the future of the club to have this group of players coming through.
01:25Definitely. We had a bit of a heartbreak two years ago in the London 2018 final and then bounced back last year with a Division 2, U21 and now this year.
01:33So hopefully we can transform this next year and bring in the senior team. Hopefully the main aim next year is to give a good run at the senior championship.
01:42It's going to be a good atmosphere in the club tonight.
01:44Definitely. It's going to be happening so it is.
01:46Well deserved. Enjoy the celebrations.
01:48Thanks very much.
