United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres on Nov 17 called for urgent action from G20 leaders to address global crises including the wars in Gaza and Lebanon and accelerate progress on critical challenges.
G20 leaders are scheduled to meet at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from Nov 18-19.

00:19In September, UN Member States adopted the Pact for the Future to help strengthen multilateralism

00:30And they have come to Rio with a simple message.
00:33G20 leaders must lead.
00:37And G20 countries, by definition, have tremendous economic clout and they yield massive diplomatic
00:44leverage.
00:46They must use it to tackle key global problems.
00:49As wars grind on, people are paying a horrible price, and we must step up for peace.
00:55Peace in Gaza, with an immediate ceasefire, the immediate release of all hostages, and
01:02the beginning of an irreversible process towards a two-state solution.
01:07Peace in Lebanon, with a ceasefire and meaningful steps towards implementing Security Council
01:13resolutions in full.
01:17Peace in Ukraine, by following the UN Charter, UN resolutions and international law.
01:23Peace in Sudan, by leaders leaning on the warring parties to end the horrific violence
01:30and desperate humanitarian crisis being unleashed on civilians.
01:34Vulnerable countries face tremendous headwinds and obstacles that are not of their making.
01:41They aren't getting the level of support that they need from an international financial
01:45architecture that is outdated, ineffective and unfair.
01:51The Pact for the Future calls for ambitious reforms to make the system more representative
01:56of today's global economy and the needs of developing and vulnerable countries.
