00:00In Cuba, the government has urged to redouble efforts to speed up housing reconstruction
00:04following damage caused by Hurricanes Oscar and Rafael and by last Sunday, November 10th,
00:09earthquakes in the eastern region. According to the construction ministry, some 46,400
00:15houses have been damaged to some extent by the hurricanes and the two earthquakes.
00:20Cuba and the President Miguel Díaz-Canel toured the affected areas to meet with the locals and
00:24to assess progress made in recovery efforts. At a meeting of the National Defense Council,
00:29the Cuban President urged for an accelerated pace in housing reconstruction as vital services
00:36such as electricity and water and communications are restored.
00:44There are already brigades inspecting the houses and evaluating the extent of the damages to
00:49determine what kind of repairs are needed. What we do here will set an example for the
00:58rest of the country of how to proceed in situations like these.
