Ballymoney Soroptimists Public Speaking Competition
Transcript
00:00Hi, my name is Sharon Caffrey. I'm the President of Sir Upton's International Ballymunnae District Club.
00:09And Sharon, what was the event that was taking place in the old schoolhouse here in Ballymunnae this evening?
00:14It's our annual public speaking competition which is open to all female students in local schools of secondary age.
00:21So we're covering approximately a 30 mile radius, anywhere from Corian to the other side of Ballymunnae and further towards Mid Ulster.
00:30It's been running now for over 40 years and equips the girls to speak in public to a large number of people, to have their voices heard.
00:41And why is the event such an important part of Ballymunnae Sir Optimist's calendar every year?
00:46It's a key part of our reason as Sir Optimists to empower, enable and educate girls to have their voices heard.
00:56To be able to engage in a public platform to cover a topic of their choosing and to speak with confidence.
01:03It equips them with skills going forward far beyond the UCAS application into everyday and working life.
