00:00Let's go deep. Let's get into it.
00:06First of all, we'd like to welcome you to Stars and Strings because this is a little
00:10bit of a surprise. So our buddy, Nate Smith, unfortunately had a little bit of an illness
00:15and couldn't make it. And you were like, I can do this.
00:18No, no, no. There were terms and conditions.
00:21What were they?
00:22The terms and conditions are that you can make it.
00:24I said a thousand percent I can be there, but Friday is supposed to be the best day
00:28this year to hunt. And so I was like, I need to be back as early as possible.
00:32So tomorrow, what time?
00:33So I think I get back at like 8 a.m. in the morning. So I'll get in the tree for the rest
00:37of it. I'll be good.
00:38That'll be good. So what do you what do you typically hunt?
00:40Deer right now.
00:41OK. Is it rifle season right now?
00:43Muzzleloader, but I just bow hunt.
00:46OK. Oh, all the time bow hunting. Interesting. Bow tech bow?
00:51Matthews. That's that's good, though. That's I mean.
00:53I listen to my husband.
00:54I respect it.
00:55He talks about hunting stuff and I go bow tech.
00:59Yeah.
01:00Parker McCollum, who also is on the show tonight, is a big hunter.
01:04Yeah. Have have you guys cross paths or done anything like that together with man?
01:08We met once when I opened for Morgan at Truist Park.
01:13He opened as well and he was super nice.
01:15He gave me like a big shout out on stage and he was super cool.
01:18I feel like I could have a nice hunting conversation.
01:20Oh, yeah. So have you done have you been hunting in Tennessee?
01:23Oh, yeah. Yeah.
01:24Probably too much already.
01:25No, no deer yet, though.
01:26No, I'm waiting for the right one.
01:28So let him go, let him grow.
01:30What is the right one?
01:32What is that? What is that?
01:33What is the feeling? What does it look like?
01:35One that's bigger than what's already on my wall or one that makes my knees shake
01:39when he walks out. OK, where you're like, good, good, good, good, good, good, good.
01:42Yeah. Yeah. OK. I hope it for you.
01:44I think tomorrow. Yeah.
01:45Is it going to be cold tomorrow?
01:46A little bit. Isn't it?
01:47Cold makes him like get up and go.
01:50How many how many?
01:51I know you have a lot of deer songs, hunting songs.
01:54How many do you think you've written so far about hunting?
01:56Oh, I have two on the record or three or two on the record.
02:00Just about hunting.
02:02So how many do you think you've written in a deer stand?
02:05Can you write songs?
02:06Yeah, I actually do get like ideas in a deer stand.
02:08That's why I like to go. Yeah. OK.
02:09I mean, you spend a lot of time by yourself.
02:12Oh, my God. Peace and quiet in the woods.
02:14It's got to be some of the best inspiration just to sit there in the woods.
02:17It's nice and quiet and come up with thousand percent ideas.
02:20Yeah, it's super nice.
02:21I think this is why men like to do it, because I tried to sit
02:24with my husband once and I was like, he's like, you can't talk.
02:26And I was like, well, this is awful.
02:28And then I was like, well, maybe I'll like do exercises and like leg lifts.
02:30He's like, you cannot know.
02:32And I was like, what do you mean you can't move?
02:36He had a ground blind and I was like doing calisthenics
02:39and I was like, he's like, you can't what are you doing?
02:41You can't move.
02:42I was like, what do you do here?
02:43Like, what are we going to do for four to five hours?
02:46Nobody talks to you.
02:47Yeah, and it's kind of nice.
02:49Do you ever go?
02:50Well, do you ever hunt with anyone else?
02:52And I mean, I'm going hunting with my dad in the same year, which is
02:55I bring my buddies every now and then.
02:57And and we'll just hang because part of it's like fun camaraderie.
03:01But that it's like turkey hunting, duck hunting is more like buddy hunting.
03:04Your guitar player was wearing a hat today that says I hunt turkeys.
03:10Dave does, in fact, not.
03:11But then Dave was like, I don't I actually don't hunt at all.
03:15No, he hunts girls at the bar.
03:18We all before this started, we were talking about how your guitar player
03:20reminds us of this social media comedian.
03:23His name is Chad Goes Deep.
03:25Spot on.
03:26And we just showed you think it's close?
03:28It's it's spot on.
03:30You know, he told us about that.
03:31You guys play a game for to decide what bunk you're in on the bus.
03:36Yeah. Okay.
03:36Tell us what is this game?
03:38So we were actually on tour with Jordan Davis and we knew we weren't in the bus
03:43yet, but we knew the next week and we were getting in one and everybody was kind of
03:46arguing about what bunks they were getting and stuff.
03:49And so I was like, we're going to do bus bunk Olympics and because we were in the
03:52short bus. So I gave my sound guy at the time who was sleeping on the couch the
03:56first pick.
03:56Okay. And then everybody else who made like a bracket.
03:59So we did like a gaff tape challenge where you roll the gaff tape down the
04:02hallway and whoever lands closest to the bullseye kind of like that, the ice
04:06thing, you know, and then and then we did a trailer loading contest where they had
04:11to push a giant road case like up this hill into the trailer, ratchet strap it
04:15in. It got pretty it got pretty like deep.
04:18I feel like that's fun.
04:20It was insanely awesome.
04:21Did you do? Did you meddle?
04:23Oh, well, I paid for the bus.
04:24So I just I didn't have to.
04:25You're like, I'm not in this.
04:26I was like, yeah, I made it up.
04:29It was fun for me.
04:29That's so much fun.
04:30That's exactly what I would love to do with my friends.
04:33Yeah. Congratulations as well on the top 10 song.
04:36Thanks. Boys Back Home with Dylan Scott.
04:38Crazy. Tell us about the first time you got to get with Dylan Scott.
04:42Yeah. And go, hey, we're going to we're going to do a Dylan song.
04:45Yeah. It was actually his idea to do it.
04:48When I was on tour with him, he was just asking to show some songs
04:52that I was pumped about. And I showed him that one.
04:53And he's like, man, there's never been two Dylan's on a song.
04:56And I was obviously like, yeah, let's do it.
04:59So we we did it.
05:01And it's been such a big blessing so far.
05:03So one more thing, since we're at Stars and Strings and it actually is benefiting
05:07Folds of Honor, they provide scholarships to service men and women
05:12who have lost family members or are disabled.
05:15So we're wondering if you could just tell us a little bit about your appreciation
05:18for the men and women in uniform. Yeah, dude.
05:20I mean, gosh, we wouldn't get to be here doing this.
05:23Not we can get to go hunt whenever we want to.
05:26We can get to do anything if it weren't for them being brave and going over there.
05:30And there's also like a lot of people don't realize how much they bring back
05:33with them to that they have to go through.
05:35So my just like full respect and full everything just goes to them
05:39because without them, I mean, we're not a free country. Amen. Amen.
05:43Thank you so much. Dylan Marlowe here at Stars and Strings with Odyssey.
