Rick Sullivan with his upside down truck in Clinton, Illinois. A man has built an incredible upside down truck that looks like a flipped-over vehicle. Rick Sullivan spent six months and $6,000 building the topsy-turvy truck from the parts of two separate vehicles. The road-legal car is created from a 1991 Ford Ranger pickup truck with a 1995 F-150 pickup truck body placed over the top - upside down.

00:000000 No, your screen hasn't been turned upside down.
00:18This bizarre truck is built to look like it's been flipped.
00:26Rick Sullivan spent six months building the unusual vehicle in his breakdown garage in
00:31Clinton, Illinois.
00:32Rick Sullivan People are amazed. I mean, it's one of those
00:36things that when you first see it, it's hard to recognize what it is, but when you take
00:41the second look, then they pull me over and want to look at it closer.
00:44COMM Rick, who runs the garage with his wife,
00:47Kathy, got the design idea when he was called to rescue an overturned Ford Ranger.
00:52Rick Sullivan As we were approaching the scene, there was
00:55a pickup truck that was rolled over on its top in about 10 inches of snow, with all four
01:00wheels sticking up in the air. I said, hey, I'll bet you I can recreate that.
01:04COMM Inspired by the concept, Rick set about putting
01:08his idea into reality.
01:09Rick Sullivan We collected parts from a Ford F-150, then
01:14on the drivetrain it is a 91 Ford Ranger, and we tore the body off of it and transformed
01:23the F-150 upside down onto the 91 Ford Ranger. The truck cost me $6,000 to build, and it
01:31took me six months to complete.
01:33COMM The truck is a big hit with Rick's nephews,
01:36who love being taken out in the attention-grabbing vehicle.
01:39COMM Hi, Brody. Hi, Brock. You ready to go for a ride?
01:42BROCK Yeah.
01:42COMM You want to go to Dairy Queen?
01:44BROCK Sure.
01:44COMM All right.
01:45BROCK The best thing about it is it's because it's
01:48upside down, probably. And there's only one of it in the world. Our friends over there
01:53are very jealous that we get to ride in these cool cars.
01:57COMM And the upside down creation turns heads in
02:00town.
02:00COMM I thought it was a car that had been tipped
02:03over. That's what it's supposed to represent, I think.
02:06COMM What it looks like is somebody took the frame
02:09of a car and put it on there, but your first reaction is that something's wrong.
02:15COMM I would like to have one myself, simply because
02:19of the uniqueness in it.
02:20COMM The amount of pictures from cell phones, I
02:23would say is somewhere around a thousand pictures a day.
02:25COMM Luckily for Rick, his wife supports his crazy
02:28building projects, even if he keeps her in the dark about what he's building.
02:33COMM When I brought home the upside down truck,
02:36my wife had no idea.
02:37RICK I was at work and he called and said, you
02:41need to come outside. So I went outside. It was amazing, the reaction to it. And the people
02:46were stopping in the street and it was a lot of fun.
02:51COMM Yes, I would say Rick is car crazy and his
02:54mind is always thinking about what the next project's going to be.
02:58COMM The truck may have turned his world upside
03:00down, but Rick is already planning the next exciting build.
03:04RICK I will keep the truck. I will never sell
03:06the truck. I do have a car building project for the future. Just keep watching the streets
03:11because it's coming.
