Hair loss in men is caused by DHT (dihydrotestrosterone). DHT attacks susceptible hair follicles and prevents further hair growth, leading to male hair loss. The hair follicles at the temples and crown of the head, are commonly attacked by DHT and usually the first place that men notice the thinning of hair. This hair loss is called Androgenetic alopecia, or more commonly, male pattern baldness. In many cases, the problem of hair loss is hereditary. Anyone can inherit this hair loss tendency from either side of the family, though there is some evidence that indicates that hair loss history from the mother'€™s side will be more likely to manifest baldness in their children. When the enzyme 5 Alpha Reductase interacts with the male hormone testosterone, the body produces DHT, which causes significant hair loss. High levels of saturated fat and cholesterol rich foods are also linked to increased DHT levels.
Since our bodies need Testosterone in order to remain healthy and fit, one way to combat hair loss is to block the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT. Men everywhere have begun using DHT blockers to help fight male hair loss.
