00:00Former Finance Minister Tundaim Zainuddin has passed away at the age of 86.
00:07His lawyer, Datuk Dr. Gurdial Singh Nijjar, confirmed that he died on Wednesday after being admitted to Asunta Hospital last month.
00:15Daim, whose real name is Che Abdul Daim Zainuddin, is expected to be buried after Asr prayers at Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan in Kuala Lumpur.
00:25A businessman-turned-politician, Daim served as Finance Minister from 1984 to 1991 and later from 1998 to 2001.
00:36Originally from Alor Star, Kedah, Daim also served as a Member of Parliament for five terms between 1982 and 2004.

00:54Daim later contested and won the Mirbok seat, defending it on behalf of UMNO and Barisan National for four consecutive terms.

01:08He studied law at Lincoln's Inn and was called to the English Bar at 21.
01:13Later, he earned a Master's in Urban Planning from the University of California and, at 81, completed a PhD at University Malaya

01:29In politics and government, Daim's meteoric rise was marked by his appointment as Finance Minister just two years after he was elected an MP.
01:37He made a return to the Finance Ministry in 1999 after the Asian financial crisis.
01:43After leaving office again in 2004, Daim remained with UMNO alongside Dr. Mahathir and other leaders of their era.
01:51In 2018, Daim and other veterans supporting Dr. Mahathir opposed then Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, leading to their expulsion from UMNO.
02:02He went on to participate in Pakatan Harapan rallies ahead of the 14th General Election, which saw the end of Najib's rule and Barisan National's long-standing government.
02:13Following the change of government, Daim spearheaded a Council of Eminent Persons tasked with advising the new government during its first 100 days.
02:23Last year, Daim was investigated as part of the Pandora Papers expose, which revealed offshore holdings of prominent global leaders.
02:32This year, he was charged for failing to declare his assets.
