With Hollywood losing some of its influence, at least in Dean's view, he says the next generation of actors would be wise to stay out of politics ... for a number of reasons.

00:00I was at one of P. Diddy's freak-offs.
00:04You saw celebrities there that you recognized.
00:07It was a rapper that we all know.
00:10Straight-up porn directed by Diddy.
00:13I'm just grateful to have made it out.
00:17Maybe there'll be a lot less celebs out there talking about things,
00:20because the truth of the matter is they're no different than me or you or anybody else.
00:24I just happen to have a big following.
00:26The Swifties didn't carry it.
00:29It just didn't happen.
00:31I'm glad it didn't, because in my opinion,
00:35common sense prevailed.
00:39If celebrities don't do any more endorsements, that's okay.
00:42But they shouldn't be stopped from endorsing a candidate,
00:45somebody they believe in.
00:47Mark Ruffalo, I don't agree with him politically at all.
00:49I still like to watch him in films.
00:52I think he's a good actor.
00:53Rob Reiner, I think, is a great director.
00:55I understand his political views.
00:57Stephen King's written some fantastic books that make great movies, too.
01:01But his political take, oh, lordy, it's a fright show in its own.
01:08People say that about me.
01:10They're like, oh, I say something, anything.
01:12And they're like, worst Superman ever.
01:14Worst Superman ever.
01:16They never saw the show.
01:17Nine times out of ten.
01:18If they don't like the show, okay, fine.
01:20That doesn't hurt my feelings.
01:21I'm very proud of the show.
01:23But the opinions on policy, discuss that.
01:27Don't talk about, you know, how you didn't like my show.
01:30It was Mr. Wonderful, Kevin O'Leary.
01:33I think he said celebrities endorsing a candidate is the dumbest thing in the world.
01:37Because you're going to alienate half your audience.
01:40And he has a great point.
01:42But there's also the larger point of being an informed populist and trying to speak truth.
01:49Zachary Levi is speaking.
01:50He speaks very eloquently.
01:53Does it color your perception of the celebs?
01:56Yes, when it goes so far.
01:58You know, there's a middle ground that 85% of us are probably in, or 80% of us.
02:04Let's say there's 10% of the far left and 10% of the far right making all this crazy noise.
02:08And that makes people start to tribalize and break off into sects.
02:13And that shouldn't be the case.
02:15But my advice for young actors, and it's been this way for as long as I can remember,
02:19I say don't talk politics.
02:21Don't do it.
02:22Because you're going to alienate audiences.
02:24In fact, the less you can tell about yourself, the better as an actor.
02:27My dad gave me that same advice, which I didn't follow at all.
02:31None of it.
02:33I spoke about myself and my life.
02:35I've been an open book.
02:36And I've been endorsing candidates for years.
02:39But I'm politically very active.
02:41I pay attention to the things.
02:42And I think I'm fair.
