00:00I didn't do punditry for very long. I wanted Des's job.
00:03Since 1999, Gary Lineker has been the face of BBC's Match of the Day,
00:08but now the presenter and former footballer has announced he is to step down from the role at the
00:13end of the season. Lineker took over the mantle when previous host Des Lynham moved to ITV,
00:20having already appeared on the show as a pundit following his retirement from professional
00:24football. Alongside pundits such as Alan Shearer, Ian Wright, Mark Lawrenson,
00:29Alan Hansen and Mika Richards, Lineker has had many memorable moments presenting the show,
00:34perhaps most notably hosting the opening segment to the first programme of the 2016-17 season in
00:40nothing but his boxer shorts, having said he would do so if his own team Leicester City won
00:44the Premier League the previous year, which of course they did. It is currently unclear who will
00:49replace Lineker, with Mark Chapman and Alex Scott both tipped as potential candidates.
00:55Hey, tell you what, football's back. Any good? Have I got the job?
