Batman and Green Arrow fight in a promising rivalry.
If there's anyone you should avoid paying too much attention to, it's Batman. That's because the guy is paranoid, obsessive, and, let's say, quite persuasive — veteran fans know very well how the Batman can be quite provocative and invasive when he's armed. This time the one who made this mistake was Green Arrow, and a new comic book is already starting big fights so combustible that the fire can escalate quickly.
'DC Comics has just established a new rivalry between Batman and Green Arrow, thanks to Oliver Queen's suspicious and sneaky move during the Absolute Power event, an event in which he disguised himself as a traitor to the heroes to take down Amanda Waller.
As Oliver acted alone to avoid arousing suspicion, including mistreating all his colleagues in the Justice League, his friends and family were not very pleased with the fact that they were left “in the dark”. Thus, Green Arrow became persona non grata in the hero community. And, look, when someone loses the trust of the bosses there, you can be sure that a certain Dark Knight will subpoena you when you least expect it.
And that's exactly what happens in Green Arrow #17, recently released, which brings an epilogue to Oliver's arc within the Absolute Power event. Despite his actions, the Justice League and his family welcome him back into the group due to the unanimous favorable vote of all members, especially Superman.
But for Batman there is no easy forgiveness, and Bruce Wayne treats Oliver with his traditional frightening coldness, as he surprises Green Arrow in his own new hideout. Batman doesn't let go and makes a point of saying that he should have told the League about his plans.
The bullshit ignites dangerously
As we know, Oliver also has a temper, and of course he would respond with his traditional tough mouth. Green Arrow pokes at a recently exposed wound, remembering that Bruce also doesn't usually act generously in a team, rubbing in the face that Batman hid from everyone the existence of his own self-contingency called Failsafe, or the dangerous neutralizing robot of the League of Legends. Justice that ended up serving Waller.
Batman concludes this meeting by noting the difference between forgiveness and trust, and tells Oliver to “be smart” because, from now on, Bruce will also be following his colleague's footsteps at all times. It is worth noting that the beef between the two began in 2004, in the controversial Identity Crisis event, when Green Arrow was an accomplice in lobotomizing some enemies and Batman himself.
From then on, the situation became even more tense, as the obsession with invasive monitoring transformed its Brother Eye artificial intelligence into a kind of totalitarian regime in Countdown to Infinite Crisis — something that was very reminiscent of George Orwell's 1984. The plot published in 2006, escalated to the duo losing their line, with verbal exchanges full of barbs and insults.
