00:00This video was recently captured in Lahore, Pakistan's second largest city, where dangerous
00:05levels of smog have engulfed the area, forcing the government to close parks, zoos, and other
00:10public spaces. The city's air quality has been deteriorating drastically, sitting at an air
00:15quality index of 553 on Saturday, with that number rising to 1045 on Tuesday. Residents in the area
00:22are upset at the closures, saying that while the government has shut down the schools and public
00:26areas, they have not closed the smog producers, those being the factories and brick kilns that
00:30reside nearby. The local government has also recently begun discussing the notion of closing
00:35down universities as well. Lahore recently took the top spot for the lowest air quality of any
00:40city in the world. So far, local health authorities say that the worsening pollution has led to over
00:4540,000 people having need for medical assistance related to respiratory issues. 900 of those were
00:51admitted on Tuesday alone. According to UNICEF, even before the record-breaking smog, some 12%
00:57of all childhood deaths of children under five in Pakistan were related to air pollution.
