00:00To all Meralco customers, please do not turn off your Christmas lights in your homes because there will be an increase this month of November if we know how much Noel Talacay will repeat.
00:16Whenever December comes, Carol is looking forward to putting Christmas decorations along with the Christmas lights because this is what gives life and color to Christmas.
00:28I want it to be full of Santa Claus. I want to have a lot of Christmas lights so it will be bright.
00:33In fact, she plans to add more Christmas lights outside of her house, but this was replaced by knowing that Meralco will have an increase in electricity this month of November.
00:48Then let's turn it off.
00:49According to Meralco's announcement, the increase will be 43 cents per kilowatt hour this month.
00:56For example, if a house consumes 200 kilowatt hours, its bill will be 85 pesos per month.
01:05Meralco's explanation is because of the decrease in the exchange rate of pesos and dollars.
01:10Dollars are used by Meralco's power plant generators such as Independent Power Procedures or IPP, Power Supply Agreement or PSA, and Wholesale Electricity Spot Market or WESEM,
01:25including the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines or NGCP where the transmission charges go.
01:33Many of our cost of generators are dollar-denominated, especially the fuel cost because the fuel is imported.
01:41Even though it's Malampaya, even though it's indigenous, it is priced in dollars.
01:46So every time the peso goes down, the price goes up in terms of the local currency.
01:54Because of this, the generation and transmission charges paid by Meralco's customers are affected every month.
02:01That's why, because it's the holiday season, Meralco has an agreement to save on electricity.
02:07As for Christmas lights, if we don't use them, obviously, we should throw them away. Let's not use them.
02:16When recycling Christmas lights, it should be tested for damage.
02:21And if you're going to buy a new one, you should check if the quality is good so that it won't burn and you can save on electricity.
02:29If we don't know that the quality of the Christmas lights is poor, it might cause accidents.
02:36And if we're going to leave the house, since many people are on vacation, make sure all your appliances are unplugged.
02:43It should also be checked if the Christmas lights are for indoor or outdoor use for the safety of a house and community.
02:51Meralco said that even though there is an increase in electricity consumption,
02:57this is the lowest level of electricity consumption due to the cold season.
03:03Meralco can't say until when the electricity bill will rise because many aspects are affected by the low and high electricity bills.
03:13Noel Talacay for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
