00:00Hello, good evening and welcome along to Invictus Sport, the only show on your TV dedicated
00:16to wrapping up all of Kent's sporting action. I'm Abbey Hook. Here's what to expect on this
00:21Monday the 11th of November.
00:25180. Darts turn things around with a long-awaited league win.
00:31Moving up a gear, at Buckmore Park, famous Kent circuit invests thousands to stay on
00:36track.
00:37And duo on their Euro mission. Kent kitboxing instructors join us after winning big at European
00:43Championships.
00:44But first, a round-up of the headlines and this afternoon it's been revealed Gillingham's
00:50director of football, Kenny Jackett, has stepped down from his role due to medical
00:54reasons.
00:55Jackett joined the Gilles in January of 2023, following the club's takeover by US businessman
01:00Brad Gallanton. So far, a replacement hasn't been named. The 62-year-old earned three promotions
01:07as manager at Swansea, Millwall and Wolves, and spent years overseeing football-related
01:12issues at the Gilles, including hiring, firing and recruitment.
01:17Chatham heavyweight Moses Itauma is set to spar with Tyson Fury again ahead of his own
01:21big fight next month. It comes as the undefeated 19-year-old has signed a new long-term deal
01:27with Queensbury Promotions. He's set to fight Dempsey McKean in Riyadh on the undercard
01:32of the You Sick Fury rematch on the 21st December. Fury has previously welcomed Itauma to his
01:37home gym in Morecambe, and already described the 10-0 boxer as a potential world champion.
01:44To rugby now, where Tunbridge Juddians have narrowly retained their 100 per cent record
01:48in the National League Two East, thanks to a late try and conversion at Barnes. The match
01:53ended 26-25 on Saturday, retaining the Judds' place at the top of the table. Elsewhere,
01:58Matt Corker's Canterbury thrashed opposition Old Albanian 54-17, thanks to seven tries
02:05scored. Meanwhile, it was quite a different story for Sevenoaks, who lost out to Dorking
02:0950-26. They stayed 12th, whilst Canterbury are sixth.
02:14Meanwhile, it was back to winning ways for Medway Rugby Club, after a 34-19 victory in
02:19the Regional Two East. After ending a five-match winning streak last time out against Sutton
02:24and Epsom, Ricky Reeves' side were looking to bounce back sharply. Early tries from Max
02:30Bullock and Connor Chalmers built Medway's momentum, but Thurrock fought back to take
02:34the lead after half-time. With late tries from Bullock, Josh Knight and Charlie Wadinsky,
02:40Medway secured the win and place themselves now fourth in the table.
02:49Back to football now, where eyebrows are starting to raise at Priestfield, with the Gels not
02:54having won a match in seven games across all competitions. Mark Bonner's team, set to take
02:59on League Two leaders Port Vale, were in search of a much-needed win. Meanwhile, Dartford
03:05were on a bit of a winless streak of their own as they welcomed Chess Hunt to Prince's
03:09Park. Here's Bartholomew.
03:13This weekend, football grounds across Kent fell silent to mark Remembrance Day, including
03:17at Prince's Park, where Dartford hosted Chess Hunt in the Yitzmian League Premier. The early
03:21exchanges saw Chess Hunt come close, with Dartford's keeper Jacob Marsden making a crucial
03:26save to deny former Tunbridge forward Tommy Wood just ten minutes in. Denzel Olopade came
03:31within inches of scoring from 25 yards out, only to be denied by a brilliant full-stretch
03:37save. Dartford continued the pressure though, with Duane Oforea-Chempong finding the net,
03:42however the flag went up for offside.
03:47After half an hour, Sam Adadu bravely challenged Revan Constable, winning a penalty for the
03:52Darts. Sam Ekuru stepped up to the spot and slotted it past the keeper to put Dartford
03:56in front.
03:57The second half brought a more balanced affair though. Chess Hunt capitalised on an opportunity
04:07when Tommy Wood deftly turned in Vas Vasilou's cross at the near post to level the score
04:11in the 62nd minute.
04:18Dartford pressed on though, coming close with an Adadu header which was cleared off the
04:22line. It was going to take something spectacular to find a winner, and in the dying minutes
04:26Whitfield stepped into space and launched an unstoppable 35-yard strike into the top
04:31corner, securing the Darts' first home league win since August.
04:38Meanwhile the big Idsmian Premier Derby saw Chatham take on top of the table Dover, that
04:43game ending 1-1, whilst a Daniel Smith goal was enough for Folkestone to take three points
04:48at home to Cray Wanderers. The Darts win jumps them three places to 12th in the table, whilst
04:53Dover remain at the top, Folkestone are 11th and Chatham 15th.
04:57In League Two, Gillingham's search for a first win in eight games finally came to an end
05:01as Port Vale docked at Priestfield. Jadon Clarke headed home a Connor Masterson cross
05:05in the 79th minute to take a much needed win for the Gills. It's safe to say Mark Bonner
05:10was delighted with the result.
05:12I don't care that it wasn't a classic at all. I thought we were good. I thought we were
05:16worthy of the win and I think it's a huge result against a team absolutely flying and
05:23everyone will look at their phones and everyone would have come today thinking I hope we win
05:28but no one would have given us a chance and huge credit to the lads for finding that level,
05:32finding that performance, sticking together when people lose a bit of faith. It's easy
05:36to do that but they haven't and yeah it's a huge result for us.
05:41The result leaves them eighth in the table and just outside of the play-off zone. Mark
05:45Bonner's side get a break now as they have two weeks without a League Two match.
05:49In the National League, bottom sitters Ebbsfleet United work to sandwich a point away to Tamworth.
05:54The first half opener from Toby Edster put the fleet ahead with just over ten minutes
05:58to go. It was Kai Williams who found the equaliser for the hosts before Ebbsfleet's Frankie
06:02Dommie was handed a second yellow and forced off the pitch, leaving Ebbsfleet with just
06:06one win on the board in 17 games so far.
06:12And finally, in the National South, Maidstone United welcomed Hornchurch to the Gallagher
06:16where George Elakobi's side bounced back from their FA Cup exit with a solid 1-0 win. Meanwhile,
06:21more than 3,000 watched on at Torquay as Tunbridge paid a visit. A strong showing from the Kent
06:25side and an added-time disallowed Torquay goal meant a well-deserved point for the Angels.
06:30The result leaves Tunbridge 15th, Maidstone 16th, both with three games in hand.

07:03Chatham Racing Circuit, Buckmore Park, is set to receive major investment as part of
07:08efforts to modernise the site and keep it in pole position as the home for kart racing.
07:13The track has seen the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris excel on their way to Formula
07:17One. But with the introduction of state-of-the-art simulators, it's hoped Kent's role fostering
07:23future talent won't be overtaken. Bartholomew Hall has been down to the track to find out
07:27more but joins us in the studio now to tell us more about this. So you had a go around
07:32Buckmore Park as well as part of being down there of course. Yeah exactly and we'll see
07:36that in just a minute. But Buckmore Park is always a fun one for us to report on because
07:40of how much history it has. I mean you mentioned the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris
07:45finding their feet there, finding their careers passing through the corners of this track.
07:51Others the likes of Jenson Button, a household name as well, and even the stars of tomorrow
07:55Ollie Behrman. He's a new F1 star who's going to be on the grid next year. He raced growing
08:01up here just as much as many of those other racing stars that have made it to Formula
08:06One. Yeah Buckmore Park, it's got a lot of history. Sixty plus years it's been there
08:10now and it's interesting what you said there about modernising the track. Some of the buildings
08:14there are more than 20 years old and what they want to do as we can see here is build
08:18a new paddock building. It's a two-storey building that will not just feature a restaurant
08:23and viewing platforms for the on-track action, but they want to introduce simulators as well
08:28which is going to help the kind of next generation of stars that want to come through because
08:32that's the way the sport is going and I heard it from the owners as well. So let's take
08:37a listen.
08:54So many great British motorsport careers began passing through these corners and that's what
09:00bosses here at Buckmore Park want to see continuing on into the future. But bosses say that it
09:06might not be on the track that the next Lewis Hamilton or Orlando Norris is discovered here.
09:11Instead, it will be over there. The plan is to replace a previously overlooked paddock
09:17building with a 20,000 square foot hub including a restaurant, sports bar and 18 top-of-the-line
09:23motion simulators.
09:24We have obviously leisure karting and appealing to the general public is a big part of our
09:29business, but we also have a lot of the big F1 stars that have started here at Buckmore
09:34Park and that is with our owner, driver and visiting series. So that's why it's really
09:38important to build the facilities so that they can still come to us. That's where we
09:43see the stars of sort of tomorrow coming through. So these facilities will also mean that they
09:48can come here and use the simulator rooms which is now such an important part of training
09:52for a motorsport career.
09:55Behind the plans is husband and wife duo, Leonora and Richard Martel-Certes, who say
10:00they want the circuit to become the go-to place for both racing leisure and competition.
10:05Following Formula One's burst in popularity since the release of Netflix's first film,
10:11Drive to Survive, the track owners say they want to capitalise on Kent's new wave of motorsport
10:17fans and cater to its changing landscape.
10:20Buckmore Park has always been a place that motorsport fans and people when they're young
10:24get into karting and karting is typically the route that people go through for motorsport.
10:27We wanted to create somewhere that people could come whether they're into motorsport
10:30or motoring and it's somewhere that is family-friendly and they can come, drive simulators, they
10:35can have some great food, drink, meet like-minded people and generally have a good time.
10:40The vision continues on, that set by Leonora's father and motorsport legend, John Certes,
10:45who bought Buckmore Park back in 2015.
10:48Yes, I think my dad would be really pleased to see what we're launching today.
10:52For him, he always had so many plans with Buckmore and sadly he wasn't really able to
10:57see his vision fulfilled.
10:59But I know for certain that he'd be absolutely delighted with how that's going to secure
11:05the future of Buckmore as really staying at the forefront of not just karting but now
11:10motoring and motorsport in the UK.
11:12Buckmore Park has a long and at times complicated history, from royal visits, future international
11:18stars passing through its ranks to almost shutting down entirely during COVID.
11:23But with planning approval alone standing in the way, it's hoped when the paddock opens
11:28in 2027, the Kent Circuit will be future-proofed in the ever-evolving world of motorsport.

15:32Margate who are set to have a new place to perform their passion. Yesterday a council
15:38meeting was held on whether or not to introduce a skate park to the Margate town and it seems
15:43like it will go ahead. The council have decided that they will retain ownership of the seafront
15:48site and aim to promote sustainability, safety and community involvement in the area with
15:53the new addition. They will collaborate with Margate Skate Club and hope that it inspires
15:58other towns in the district to follow in their footsteps.
16:28Efforts will be made to minimise carbon emissions and ensure the site is accessible and welcoming
16:44to all, aiming to foster inclusivity and reduce discrimination. From car parks to seafronts,
16:51this is where plans for the new skate park may go ahead. The project has funding of almost
16:56a million pounds and includes things like toilets and a new food area. And after speaking
17:01to some locals, it seems that many of them are excited and feel positive for the possibility
17:06of the new addition in this area. The skate park near where I live works quite well. It's
17:11a focal point for the youth. It's good activity, it's outdoors. It's not a year-round thing
17:16so you have to consider what's going to happen in the wintertime. I think it's a good idea
17:19to have them because it gives kids an outlet to express themselves and get into a hobby
17:27and have somewhere to go rather than complaining that they've got nowhere to go. So yeah, go
17:32for it. Go for it, I'd say. It's only a good thing. Who knows, you might get an Olympian
17:36out of it. Exactly. As the town prepares for the possibility of the new arrival, it seems
17:41like they will be getting more than they bargained for with an added £35,000 to improve the
17:46surrounding area to help improve safety and well-being with improved lighting, reelings

17:59Now time to meet our next guest this evening. Straight off the plane from Athens, Alex Chalk
18:04and Ben Fillingham have been representing Kent's Miles Martial Arts Club and Team GB
18:09at the European Kickboxing Championships and one of them has become champion. After having
18:14put years of hard work and commitment to the sport, the pair earned spots on the national
18:18team which they described as an absolute honour. What I'm happy to say, it's an honour to have
18:22you both here with me in the studio now. Thank you both so much for joining me. Congratulations
18:26to you both, some incredible achievements and you only just landed last night. Have
18:30you managed to catch up on any sleep? Not really. It's been a bit of a whirlwind. I
18:36can imagine. So let me get this right. New title, European champion and the veteran 94kg
18:42champion. That's the new title. How does that feel to hear that? Surreal. It's a wonderful
18:49achievement for myself and I've worked hard to do it. I started martial arts when I was
18:5412 years old and now I'm sat here at 48 to say that I'm a European champion is very special.
19:01It's amazing and Ben it's something that you've grown into doing both of you and both at the
19:07same club as well. What's it been like? What's that journey been like and being out there
19:12in Greece? Again, it's quite surreal. This year especially we were in the Olympic velodrome
19:17and that kind of put the ice on the cake. It's not just competing at a tournament, you're
19:21in an Olympic stadium. But to go for it with somebody at the same time is special. We work
19:26hard together, we push each other and the results are there to see. It's an incredible
19:30achievement for both of you as well. In your category Ben, it was right down to that last
19:36decision by the referee I believe. Yes, you've got three judges. Tell us how that works because
19:42that must be incredibly frustrating. You've put everything into the sport and then it's
19:46down to that decision at the end. Explain that to us. It's all based on a point system.
19:51You've got to land the clean shots and all three judges have to see it or two or three
19:54of them have to see it to score it. Some angles might look like something's scored and it
20:00hasn't but at the end of the day that's the decision we get to. If the judges make that
20:05call then that's what it is, the better man won on the day. Is it about performance as
20:10well if it's scored on that? It's not just a sport, it's not just fighting, there's a
20:14real performance element to it as well. Definitely. There's a bit of an art in terms of the scoring
20:19system for sure and we can both say that. It's not always easy. You feel like you've
20:25done enough. Sometimes certain techniques score better than others and if the judges
20:31are looking for something specific and you land those techniques you're more likely to
20:36score the points. Even clean shots in a certain way, like a body shot, may not score but a
20:42clean head shot guaranteed they're going to click. It really depends on the day and which
20:47judges and referees you get. I suppose you've spent so long training trying to get all of
20:52these different moves nailed so that you can tailor it to a different judge in different
20:57types of competition as well? Yes, some may favour certain techniques than others and
21:01it's just knowing the audience at that point. The more experience you've got the better
21:05you're going to be on the different stages. Alex, tell us about being part of Team GB
21:09as well. It's amazing seeing it on your clothing as well. It must feel so surreal. We always
21:15talk on this show, this show really is about sport from humble beginnings and that really
21:18feels true sitting here talking to you. What was that like? It's very, very special. Ben's
21:25been fortunate enough to represent the country three times. This is my second. World Championships
21:31last year, European Championships this year. I was hugely honoured to be able to stand
21:35on the stage with the national anthem being played. As you say, represent your country
21:40and your club, have your friends, your training partners all there with you. It really is
21:46very, very special. I can imagine. Tell me about the club as well. What's that like training
21:51with people and getting young people into the sport, but any age as well. Showing that
21:55anyone really can do this if you put your mind to it. That to me is kind of the pinnacle
21:59of it. That's why I do it. It's my full time job. I teach and to see the difference you
22:04can make to some kind of children's or even adults' lives when they come to you with their
22:07stories of alcohol and this and that and they come and they want to better themselves. It's
22:12a special feeling. We talk a lot on the show with boxers, people in martial arts as well
22:17and they talk about it being a really good form of, that message I suppose of keeping
22:22children off the streets, giving them something to channel their passions. We talk a lot with
22:29boxing clubs and things. Is that very similar in the kickboxing community as well? I would
22:33say so. I would definitely not be the person I am today had it not been for, especially
22:39Richard Miles, the guy who runs Miles Martial Arts because he's been my coach since the
22:43age of six and it's just kind of moulded me to who I am. It's a discipline. Any martial
22:48art is a discipline and if you have children, you have anyone who has, should we say, behavioural
22:54issues or whatever it be, it can be that focus that can help children better themselves,
23:00move things away from a lifestyle they maybe want to avoid. So yeah, it can be very helpful
23:05for any age really, from children up to adults. It's really, really special. So what's next?
23:11I mean you can't... Abu Dhabi. Okay, so what's in Abu Dhabi? We've got the World Championships
23:17next year in Abu Dhabi. And how does that compare to the Europeans? Obviously it's the
23:22world stage but is the competition more fierce? No, I think it's the other way round. Well,
23:28it depends. It's a knockout competition, right? You could draw the best person in the first
23:32fight and that's that. But there are some countries more in the World Championships
23:38that maybe are not as highly skilled as the Europeans. In the Europeans, there's no easy
23:43fight. In the world, you may get one but you also may not. Yeah. If you look at the World
23:47Championships, normally a lot of the top fighters that will take titles are the Europeans. You
23:54know, you look at someone from Turkey, Azerbaijan and Austria, Hungary, they put out some incredible
24:00fighters and you see those guys on the world stage as well as the Europeans. Amazing. A
24:06huge congratulations to you both. It's nice coming home with some, let's say silverware,
24:11goldware, I don't know what you call it. But it's incredibly impressive, both of you. Well
24:15done and I'm really hoping maybe you could bring me to Abu Dhabi with you and I could film you in
24:19the process. But definitely come back into the studio. Maybe have some sleep after Abu Dhabi,
24:24it's a bit further for the flight and then come on into the studio. Thank you both so much.

24:52returning himself to a healthy BMI all by playing football. Robert is part of Gilliam's Man vs Fat
24:58group who meet every Wednesday evening with the goal of scoring goals and losing the pounds
25:02in teams such as Trifle 65 and Ivory Toast Oranges. Thanks to less than a year of commitment,
25:08Robert has lost more than three stone plus says he's already seen a massive improvement to his
25:13social, physical and mental well-being. We think that deserves a big well done. Next we're paying
25:19a visit to Kent-born Olympian Erin McNeice who has returned to the wall after a summer of pulling
25:24herself up the most intricate walls on the planet. Most recently, Erin's been in South Korea where
25:29she became only the third British woman to podium in the boulder category, taking home her first
25:34bronze. Nicknamed by her trainer as the McBeast, the 20-year-old from Rottnestam says she's always
25:38focused on getting stronger. Fantastic work! And finally, these mucky pups have been taken to the
25:44water at Blue Water where Hang Loose has recently opened dog swimming slots. After being asked by a
25:49visitor if they could bring their four-legged friend along, the site already runs cold water
25:53and wild swimming sessions all year round for adults, but now specific slots have been made
25:57available for canines too. Don't they just look like they're having fun? Well, that's it for this
