00:00The top two teams of this year's UAAP Men's Basketball Tournament squared off last night
00:06in a highly anticipated second round match-up at the Areneta Coliseum.
00:10Although they are each assured of final four spots,
00:13the De La Salle University and the University of the Philippines
00:16stopped at nothing to prove themselves as the best team in Philippine collegiate basketball.
00:21For all the highlights and hints, here's Rafael Bandairel.
00:25It was a rematch of last year's finals,
00:29and may very well be a preview of this season's UAAP Men's Basketball Championship Series.
00:36Defending champion De La Salle University Green Archers locked horns
00:40with the mighty University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons Sunday night at the Big Dome.
00:46It was almost deja vu of their initial encounter in round one
00:50as DLSU extended its winning streak to nine games,
00:54out-dwelling UP 77-66.
00:58Reigning MVP Kevin Quiambao led the way with a team-high 15-point effort,
01:03a slight improvement on his uncharacteristic performance
01:07against Four Eastern University in his previous game.
01:10Coming into this game, I had a different mindset,
01:14but my approach was the same.
01:15I can't complain about my performance in the last game.
01:20My teammates, my management, and coaching staff
01:24always tell me to keep going.
01:27I'm one of the leaders here.
01:29If this matchup is anything to go by,
01:32it appears that De La Salle is on its way to a second consecutive title.
01:37However, big man Mike Phillips said they are aware
01:40that overconfidence could be their undoing if they aren't careful.
01:45Whoever makes it to those third, fourth, or second seed,
01:48they're not just going to give up just because they're number one.
01:51They fought so hard to get to that spot,
01:53so they're going to fight even harder to try to take us down.
01:56We really have to be ready.
01:58I think it's really just seeing the passion in which they fight
02:01and just always remembering that in this game of basketball,
02:03anybody can beat anybody on any given day.
02:05No matter if everything's going right,
02:07there's always an envelope on the ball.
02:10As it stands, the LSU has comfortably secured the number one spot
02:14in the Season 87 standings,
02:16along with a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.
02:20The boys from TAP have one remaining game left in the elimination round.
02:24They will face the National University Bulldogs on Wednesday
02:28at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
02:31And although it's a non-bearing game,
02:33Coach Topex Robinson is adamant that the Archers aim to finish strong
02:38to build momentum heading into the Final Four.
02:41Rafael Bandeirel, from the National TV Network of the New and Better Philippines.
