00:00We've been describing Marcus Jones as a weapon in the kicking game.
00:04Oh, no doubt.
00:05What makes him such a special returner?
00:08Man, there's so many things that he does well.
00:12I think it's prep, first and foremost.
00:14He studies these punters.
00:16He understands where they're putting the ball,
00:18so he's got a really good beat when that ball's pointed
00:20to get underneath that ball, and that's just that little thing right there
00:23for him to have a little more space to react off the first guy he's got to make
00:28a miss and get to the returner is, first and foremost, really important.
00:31The second thing is he's just got that natural vision.
00:35He's got a natural feel for the directions that we're trying to hit,
00:38how to set up his blocks, and that's something a lot of times it's hard to teach.
00:42Those guys just have a natural feel back there
00:44because punt returns totally doesn't make a kickoff return.
00:46I'm glad we got the guy.
00:47I'm glad our guys in front are blocking their butts off for him,
00:50and I'm glad we're giving him opportunities because at the end of the day,
00:53he's a huge weapon for us.
00:54We've got to keep him healthy, keep him confident,
00:56and he's going to help us throughout the season.
00:57Yeah, he's been incredible, and I know a few weeks ago we asked you
01:00about him not returning kicks, and you had a great answer about those guys
01:04get smashed on kickoff, but I'm curious.
01:07Is there an opportunity?
01:09Maybe it's overtime, trying to start, tilt the field a little bit.
01:13Now I know the opposing team might just see him back there
01:15and blast him through the end zone anyway,
01:17but is that something he's worked on at all, or is he strictly a punt returner?
01:21No, he works on kickoff return too.
01:23He's a backup for us, and that's always a situational thing.
01:26We can always put him back there.
01:28But I don't know if you guys saw a schooler's play on kickoff last year
01:31where he smashed a returner in overtime.
01:33It's those types of hits right there that I want to keep him off of
01:37because at the end of the day, he's a weapon on offense for us,
01:42and he's a damn good defender.
01:43The last thing I would want is for him to get hit like that,
01:45and he's out the rest of the season with a broken rib or something like that.
01:48You know what I mean?
