00:00The energy transition, a right transition for Eni, is not just about innovation, it is a commitment to transform the way we produce and consume energy, ensuring that no one is left behind. It is the model that Eni brings to Ecomondo 2024.
00:23It is based on the production of vegetable oil from the agricultural chain, which is not in competition with food, but it makes farmers all over the world, in Kenya, in Africa, but also in Italy, in Kazakhstan, in various countries, regions of the Far East, it makes farmers cultivate their own land, degraded land that is suitable for food production, rotation cultivation that integrates those food and an oil is produced.
00:51This process is a sustainability that is not only environmental, because it contributes to the reduction of emissions, but it creates jobs, so it has social sustainability.
01:00In addition to the vegetable oil that enters the biofineries, the underproducts, which are those derived from spraying, are valued in terms of fertilizers, rather than feed for animals. All this in the area of the territory in which we carry out our activities.
01:20A model told on the occasion of the fourth edition of the Africa Green Grow Ecomondo Forum, with a concrete example, that of Kenya, where Eni has left its first initiatives of agrofeedstock as part of its commitment to a fair transition.
01:35Kenya is our flagship project. We started in 2021, when we signed an agreement with the government of Kenya, and after just three years, we managed to involve more than 100,000 farmers, as evidence of how important an activity of this type is for the farmer.
01:57We provide assistance to the farmers, agricultural inputs, seeds, training, to give them an additional ability to expand their market.
02:08In Kenya, in addition to the 100,000 involved farmers, we have built two processing plants, what we call Agriab, and we have produced from degraded land, through the culture of farmers, crude oil, so a degraded land that was not suitable for food production. Here we are talking about 100,000 hectares.
