00:00Your lips, it was a tough one to find, but I remember keeping my own laugh, which is
00:09kind of scary.
00:11That's my real laugh.
00:12Hey, I'm Barry Keoghan, and today we are going to be watching some scenes from throughout
00:18my career.
00:19Play.
00:20I'll do it.
00:27Jesus Christ.
00:32I actually nearly slipped.
00:44That wasn't acting, that was real.
00:46Real grass.
00:47It's a great old lake, isn't it?
00:51This one, I mean, McDonagh is incredible, and it's like, you look at all his previous
00:55films, it's like, if he sends something, you're 90% going to sign on.
01:00And for this, it came at the right time, and I needed something to kind of show range,
01:04and you know, a character that was a bit more gentle, and a bit more naive, and a bit more
01:08innocent, and that has no twisted kind of demeanour or motives, it was just a joy.
01:14What I was wanting to ask you was, something along the lines of, should I plan this, really?
01:22But yeah, what I was wanting to ask you was...
01:25With this scene, it's just, again, it's so heartbreaking, he's so innocent, and you know,
01:31you just feel for him.
01:33This was the last scene I actually shot the movie as well, it was just heartbreaking.
01:36You probably wouldn't ever want to, I don't know, fall in love with a boy like me, would
01:42you?
01:43No, Dominic, I don't think so, love.
01:48No, yeah, no, I was thinking no.
01:51He was so fixated on Kerry's character, and you know, they say he was like, the most uneducated
02:01one on the island, if you want to say, but I think he was the most cleverest.
02:05He's seen people for what they are on that island, and he was honest, and that's why
02:10Colin's character didn't really always like him, he was just brutally honest.
02:15So much fun playing with this character, like on a scale of animation, like how far we go,
02:19and you know, me and Martin had this thing of one to ten, and I'd always go eight, or
02:24nine, like, you know, picking the hair, or doing something more, like, some sort of tick,
02:29or, and Martin'd be like, no, bring it back down to four.
02:33Not even in the future, like, when I'm your age.
02:40We always thought he, like, OCD of some sort, or he was battling with something anyways,
02:45and these ticks were always sort of like, nerves, and these little isms, yeah, but I
02:52just thought it added to it, I mean, it wasn't in the script.
02:55Yeah, no, I didn't think so, just thought I'd ask him the off chance, you know, like,
03:01Fin heart nut.
03:09Wow, there goes that dream.
03:11Oh, wow.
03:12Beautifully written, that whole, like, I mean, Martin not made me stick to every word you
03:17want to stick to every word, but every single word that came from him, even the, yeah, like,
03:24every single thing, heartbreaking.
03:32There's a serial killer.
03:35I want you to respect it.
03:41First anniversary, paper.
03:46He's got lovely hands now, doesn't he?
03:48Why makes you think I'd go so cheap?
03:51I thought you'd be curious.
03:54That was so painful, because the prosthetics, and we had something to kind of keep my jaw
03:59out of there, I'll keep my lip there, and Mike Marino, he's done a great job, and it's
04:06incredible, you know, him and Matt came up with this whole design, and I think it was
04:10a brilliant idea to kind of keep it there, because it prevented me from letting that
04:13rest, but as the sweat kind of came in, and the prosthetics started to get warm, it kind
04:20of cut through a little, so it was like going up, and I was like, oh, it was actually sore
04:24by the end of it, after three days.
04:27I keep implanting this in all life.
04:31I mean, the prosthetic is mainly for the audience.
04:34For me, it's in here.
04:35I remember they wanted to put contacts in my eyes at one stage, and I was like, I really
04:39do want to keep my eyes, you know, to kind of bring that kind of human forward, and to
04:45see some sort of pain, and some sort of, a little bit of weakness as well at moments.
04:51I know it's kind of out of focus wherever, but you can kind of still get a sense of it.
04:55When you see it go on, the prosthetics, and the hair, and even the nose, and the teeth,
05:02I was just kind of mesmerized, like, it's the fucking Joker, isn't it?
05:06But this was more, sitting in front of Batman was even more, I was like, oh my God, you
05:10know, seeing him just come out of the shadows, like, alright Rob.
05:19I mean, he's a fucking great actor, isn't he?
05:21We're good friends as well, so that helps.
05:23But yeah, we were just kind of going back and forth, and we couldn't really hear one
05:26another either in between takes, so it was a lot of him just sitting there, and me like,
05:30you know, and me sitting there trying to fix my jaw, which was quite funny.
05:35Yeah, he gave me so much, you know, each take, he gave me so much, and then Matt had come
05:39in, and you know, Matt's, he's unreal, and it just, yeah, we had so much fun with it.
05:53You think they deserved it, huh?
05:55You think they deserved it.
05:59I remember studying hyenas a lot, and then just kind of finding that laugh, kind of brought
06:03me to that place with my voice, and I wanted to keep the voice young, you know, and sort
06:10of, yeah, it was a tough one, it was a tough one to find, but, you know, I remember keeping
06:16my own laugh, which is kind of scary.
06:20That's my real laugh.
06:23I'd like to talk to you, I'm not going to take up much of your time.
06:31This basically takes up all my time.
06:33Of course, I've only got ten minutes, because I've got to get to class, so, what's up?
06:41My husband told me about you and your father.
06:44Oh, he did?
06:46Did he also tell you about my mom?
06:48No.
06:49That's so crazy.
06:51Sorry, maybe I'm not the one you should hear it from, but ever since your husband killed
06:59my father, he's been flirting with my mom.
07:04Constantly flirting.
07:07I mean, look at it.
07:09It's like, if I can sit in there with spaghetti on my lap and a pair of boxers in front of
07:13Nicole Kidman, it's, yeah, it will stick with me.
07:18I mean, everybody watching it, it's, I mean, he's a genius, Yorgos.
07:22It's so dark and so twisted.
07:24I mean, keeping a straight face, because you deliver everything so dead, almost, you know,
07:31and just doing it with Colin as well was like, he does it perfect, you know?
07:36I just couldn't, like, hold it in.
07:40It's just so, I don't know, it's so straightforward.
07:44But this scene was, you know, I didn't really laugh in this, like, between takes or anything.
07:50It's just so dark.
07:51To be honest, she's got feelings for him, too.
07:54I don't know.
07:55I don't like to think of it as, you know, being dark in the moments, like when I'm re-watching
08:00it or whatever, but, you know, you've got to stay true and not kind of judge your character
08:03when you're in these scenes.
08:05If you have it set up in your head that, alright, this is dark and I'm being quite, you know,
08:10evil and have that kind of demeanor, well, then it's going to play different.
08:15She thinks he has very nice hands.
08:18Truth is, he's beautiful hands.
08:21All doctors have clean, nice, beautiful hands.
08:23I've got lovely hands.
08:24I remember it just coming in buckets, but, you know what, I ride a spaghetti cold anyway,
08:29so that's weird to say, but you know what I mean.
08:33That's when I came up with the, I think it's in the scene where I put it in and take it
08:36back out because it was actually getting too full, but it worked.
08:40I thought I was the only one who ate spaghetti that way.
08:43I mean, my dad.
08:44You should wipe his mouth.
08:45Later, of course, I found out that everyone eats spaghetti the exact same way.
08:53Exact same way.
08:54Exact same way.
08:58This made me very upset.
08:59Yorgos is running, like, he's shouting in the back, stop acting.
09:03I remember that day.
09:04He was like, stop acting.
09:05I was like, I'm an actor.
09:07Everyone puts on a show for Felix.
09:15So I'm sorry if my performance wasn't good enough.
09:22I mean, how could you not be obsessed with that man?
09:24No, I don't.
09:26I just need you to understand how much I fucking love you.
09:29You're the only friend I ever had, Felix.
09:33Oliver was like, there was such a, I remember reading such an arc, you know, that I was
09:39like, I could have so much fun with this.
09:41And I remember having these moleskin books of, you know, different moments of the script
09:47and different versions of Oliver and when to accelerate certain moments and when to
09:52kind of pull back and study someone and watch.
09:57So I think that really helped me.
10:01And each person, Oliver was kind of different.
10:03He played a part for each person.
10:06Again, don't judge a character.
10:08But I think with this one, it was sort of like there was a blueprint to having this
10:12overall plan.
10:13And, you know, it was sort of like in a playground and having fun with experimenting.
10:19I think he was curious more than anything else, like how easy it was.
10:31Baby!
10:34Let's go, I'm going.
10:35Let's go home.
10:36Go home?
10:37I've got a surprise for you at home.
10:39What is it?
10:40It's a surprise.
10:41Here, take this.
10:44Be careful with that.
10:45I always love to watch the younger actors and that, to see what they bring, and especially
10:50ones who haven't been trained, and they just gave so much for me.
10:54There was a scene at the very start of the movie where I'm forced not to try a dress on.
11:00Nicola had this kind of process of going away and getting into the zone, and I was fascinated
11:06by that.
11:07And she'd come back all, you know, full of emotion.
11:11And I remember being in the scene where I was like, I don't want to push her too much,
11:16but, you know, she was well able.
11:18And again, a joy as an actor.
11:21Again, a joy as an actor to have a scene partner like that.
11:25She's incredible.
11:32Thank you so much for watching.
