During the War of Resistance Against Japan, a battalion from the Ba Lu forces arrives at the Ma Mu Chi stronghold in the Yimeng mountain region. Along with them are dairy cows donated by international allies. The villagers, who have lived in the mountains for many years, have never seen such striped black-and-white cows that produce so much milk, and they are greatly surprised. Soon after, a Japanese army unit approaches, and the Ba Lu forces must retreat in haste. Before leaving, they entrust the care of the dairy cows to the villagers. After a brutal and bloody massacre, all the villagers are killed, leaving only Niu Er (the Second Cow) and the cows as survivors.

Before they can catch their breath, another Japanese military unit passes through the area and leaves behind injured soldiers. From that day on, Niu Er, now tasked with protecting the cows, does everything he can to deal with the Japanese army, bandits, wandering doctors, and many other diverse characters. Meanwhile, his stubborn partner causes many more headaches...
