00:00Really exciting times. First new material in 10 years and a headline tour which is going to bring you, Richard, to Hastings and Portsmouth in our area.
00:09And it's a different enjoyment second time around, isn't it? You've had the break.
00:14Yeah, I think, you know, maybe we're older and wiser. Are we wiser? I hope so.
00:21But, you know, I think that's, I think that's just like, kind of like, it's nice to be going out there.
00:28It's nice to be going out without the sort of the pressure of how perhaps it was before.
00:34It's just nice to be going out playing music to people who, you know, who genuinely also are coming along to see us, you know,
00:40because it's not like that we're on every radio station and, you know, on the front page of every paper or anything.
00:45You know, these are our fans who've kind of also stuck with us over all this time and, you know, hopefully some new fans, too.
00:54And, you know, that's going to be... And that pressure of first time round, you're saying, that's pressure that you put on yourselves, wasn't it, really?
01:01Yeah. Yeah, I think so. I mean, you know, there's always obviously whenever you're, you know, you get into bed with a major record label, you know, that's how it works.
01:11But a lot of it was, you know, how we perceive what we were doing. We were so, so sure that we wanted to make this work.
01:19You know, me and, you know, the drummer in the band, Steve, we'd both been in bands previously that had got signed and it had all broken down.
01:27It's quite, it's very rare for a band to get signed. It's then very rare for that band to get signed and then even end up making the album.
01:33And then, you know, so and then get another go at it, you know, and then it worked.
01:38It was like, wow, this is kind of like we've got to make, we've got to just be the best we can be.
01:42And you end up, because it ends up sort of like colouring everything, you know, like if you get, if someone slags you off in a review, you're like, you take it personally.
01:51It's that ridiculous.
01:53Yeah, someone praises you, you won't remember, but if someone slags you off, you will, won't you?
01:57Yeah, exactly. That's just the way it works, isn't it? You sort of, you know, sometimes I was working with, I've worked with a couple of different drummers.
02:06You can be quite negative and one is super positive. And you're kind of the super positive one.
02:10You sometimes go, yeah, but you're always saying that and you don't, you don't believe them.
02:14And it's like, that's crazy. Like when people are nice, you don't go, yeah, but I don't quite believe that.
02:19You know, it's just funny how you sabotage yourself.
02:23Absolutely. And it does sound like you're going to have a different enjoyment this time around.
02:26You were saying first time around, maybe you didn't stand back enough to appreciate the moment.
02:33But you can do that this time.
02:35Yeah, I think, you know, it was, it was an incredible time, you know, like, you know, it was, it wasn't that we were, we didn't enjoy it.
02:46I just didn't think we had, it was that taking the moment to stop and just appreciate it more, you know, and just kind of sit there and smile and look around, you know.
02:56At a different stage of your life, you will do that now.
02:59Yeah, this time, I think it's great to be going out there, but it's also great to go out and play new music.
03:04You know, it's not just about going out and playing the old songs.
03:07You know, it's great to be writing, recording, you know, I've always loved doing that side of the business or a game.
03:18I sound like some character out of Minder, but, you know, I've always enjoyed doing that.
03:24So it's great to be, you know, bringing something new and trying to...
03:27Because the band has got to move forward, hasn't it?
03:29Yes. Yeah. You know, otherwise it's just, you know, we didn't, we don't, we didn't, we didn't want to be like a kind of a heritage act.
03:37You know, that sort of doesn't really...
03:39You're a tribute band, yeah.
03:40Yeah. There's probably tribute bands out there who'd be a lot better than we are.
03:46Fantastic. Well, congratulations on the comeback, the return. I hope it goes brilliantly. I'm sure it will. Really lovely to speak to you, Richard. Thank you.
03:53Thank you very much for your time. Thank you.
03:55Thanks.
