00:00A Food Innovation Center was established by the DOST in Cagayan State University

00:05to further benefit the fruits and vegetables that are almost being thrown away during peak season.

00:11The details are reported by Oliver Bakay of the Philippine Information Agency Region 2.

00:18The fertile land of Cagayan Valley is rich in different kinds of vegetables and fruits.

00:23It is being benefited by the residents.

00:26However, during peak season, the fruits are being thrown away.

00:32Tomatoes are being thrown away on the side of the road if they are overripe.

00:38Mangoes, peels, corn, okra, squash, coffee, pineapple, and others are also included.

00:44Because of this, the Department of Science and Technology is establishing this Food Innovation Center

00:49to serve as a processing center to benefit and not destroy the crops of the farmers.

00:56We transform concepts into products, helping our farmers, and it should be resource-based.

01:03So, all the commodities that will be done here for product development

01:08should be presented abundantly for technology transfer and commercialization through our SMEs.

01:18Among the successful products that have been processed are okra chips, chichamatis,

01:23balatong chips, crispy melon, crispy mabolo, crispy squash, and crispy mixed veggies.

01:29As for the other fruits that are hardly noticed are healthy drinks such as turmeric tea,

01:35calabash juice, sambong tea, malunggay tea, guayabano tea, calamansi juice, and others.

01:41According to DOST, many local entrepreneurs are interested

01:46in learning how to adapt their products.

01:49Just like our previous ones, if they don't have the equipment,

01:52they can use the equipment for product test market implementation.

01:57This is a big help, not only to avoid the destruction of God's blessings,

02:03but also for the well-being of the residents and the economy of the region.
