00:00This is the election and tabulation center for Arizona's largest county.
00:03Four years ago, Trump supporters who believed the election was rigged came
00:07here, some of them armed, demanding to be let in this year. Authorities are
00:11taking no chances. They've turned the building into a fortress. They're even
00:14considering deploying drones and SWAT teams on the roof on Election Day. Well,
00:19I tell folks we're ready for everything but Godzilla. But the bottom line is our
00:24democracy remains very, very strong. This is a moment in our history that I
00:28think we will analyze and discuss a long time. I'd much rather be spending
00:32money on voter education than on security. But I don't feel any less
00:36confident than I would if there was an open parking lot and folks were just
00:39walking in voting. Both authorities and pro voting groups agree investing in
00:44election security is key to restoring trust in the democratic process. The
00:48current state of security around elections is not where we want to be. We
00:53want to get back to where we were prior to 2020 when people would vote and then
00:57trust the process that we have civil servants from both parties and then
01:03volunteers from both parties that together count the votes, process the
01:09system and in fact determine the results. Election workers have been
01:13preparing for worst case scenarios. They've gone through active shooter
01:16drills. They've also learned how to barricade themselves and how to use
01:19fire hoses to repel armed mobs. They've also received trauma kits that contain
01:24bandages and tourniquets in the event of severe bleeding. The head of
01:27elections for the county says he's got the sheriff's office on speed dial.
