00:00Because we were making a film unlike any other film in a way and had to figure out how to make the film and
00:06My background is documentary and what I realized very quickly is in animation the directors
00:12You know God and in documentary you're lucky if you get a sandwich, you know
00:17So the kind of control one has an animation
00:21Was exactly the opposite of what I'm used to and so I was really interested in the friction between
00:27The real world and the documentary the grammar of documentary and then putting that into a world where you can't control everything and so
00:35you know essentially we made the film twice once as a
00:40Kind of Frankenstein cut of footage
00:43I shot and
00:44interviews and archive footage and movie clips and I hired a kid just out of art school to just sit and draw with us in
00:51The edit bay constantly and filled up a cut and we screened it for people
00:54we got it where it was pretty close to locked and then we started working with the animation team and
01:01Great people Howard Baker my animation director
01:04I've worked with I have to give him a lot of credit and so many people because this was me going to school on animation
01:10but also me
01:12Arguing with them all the time to like trying to hold on to my naivete
