00:00So on the 14th of February this year, Darren was in Rowsley Park in Easton with a number of his
00:06friends. The group of lads were just doing what children do, they were climbing trees,
00:11they were fighting with sticks and they were surrounding a park bench and Darren actually was
00:16sat on the park bench in Rowsley Park. Just before six o'clock two boys came into the park on bikes
00:23and almost immediately attacked the group that Darren was part of. As the boys came into the
00:29park Darren was sat on the bench and was unable to get off quick enough and during the altercation
00:35received a single stab wound to his back. Following that Darren was able to run off
00:40but was pursued across the park by the two boys that had come in on the bikes.
00:45Darren was able to climb over the fence out of the park and onto Easton Way where he tried to
00:50flag down a number of members of the public to get some help and get into hospital.
00:56Darren did get into the vehicle of a passing member of the public and was taken to West Street
01:02where the driver of that vehicle was looking to get some help. At that point Darren got out of
01:06the vehicle and collapsed on the pavement. Despite a number of members of the public
01:12administering first aid on the pavement, Darren unfortunately was unable to be saved
01:17and died a short while later. So since Darren was killed the major crime investigation team
01:25have had a team working tirelessly on this case to present the best evidence they can to the court.
01:30That included a number of specialities within the department including the CCTV team, the
01:36intelligence team and the forensic teams and we've also worked closely with neighbourhood teams
01:42within the constabulary to get the best evidence and information we can around what happened to
01:47Darren. Working as part of this investigation alongside Darren's family has been very
01:54difficult. They've lost a child and they want answers as quickly as possible and want to know
01:59quite rightly everything the police know. Darren's family have been really understanding, they've been
02:03completely dignified throughout the trial process and that relationship between the police and
02:08Darren's family remains strong and obviously we'll do everything we can to support them through
02:14the remainder of the trial process and moving forward as they try to come to terms with Darren's death.
