The Victorian Greens co-deputy leader Sam Hibbins has resigned from the party over allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards a staff member at his office. The Prahran MP is married with two children - and admitted to breaching Greens party rules by having a "consensual relationship with a staff member". He said the "short relationship ended some time ago" and that he deeply regretted his actions, in a video apology posted to social media on November 1.

00:00I've made the decision to stand down from the Greens party room.
00:04What's happened is I've had a short consensual relationship with a staff member from my office.
00:10This was a significant error of judgment on my part and it was a breach of our party room rules.
00:31Look at a time when people are struggling and already disengaged from politics,
00:36I know something like this will shake people's trust in politics even further.
00:41But we are human, we make mistakes, the important thing is making amends and focusing on what
00:48really matters. For me it's my beautiful family, it's continuing my fight for social and economic justice.
01:04I leave the party room with goodwill towards my Greens colleagues,
01:08they're doing a terrific job, I wish them well in the future. I deeply regret what's happened,
01:14I've made a very human mistake but I am working to find the best way forward. Thanks so much.
