00:00We're joined here on a Bruins Thursday by Andrew Raycroft in Neston.
00:03He's brought to you by John Sewer and Drain Cleaning.
00:05The name to know when your drains don't flow.
00:07What's up, Razor? Happy Halloween.
00:09Yes, happy Halloween.
00:11Hopefully everyone's ready to go trick-or-treating tonight.
00:15Perfect weather, right?
00:17It's gonna be lovely out there.
00:19I don't know if you've been following along, Razor.
00:21I'd imagine not, but Keith is Raleigh Fingers today.
00:23That's right, Hall of Famer and four-time Rolaids Relief Man of the Year.
00:26He's got like a real nice fake mustache going on.
00:30Wiggy chastised my costume earlier today
00:32because I didn't go as a recognizable individual
00:34like Raleigh Fingers.
00:36I'm like a rocket blasting off
00:38that has since deflated
00:40since the start of the show.
00:42My batteries have run out on my costume.
00:44I'm just a deflated rocket right now.
00:46We'll be keeping an eye on the Bruins
00:48as we're out trick-or-treating with the kids.
00:50Keith said earlier today
00:52very hot seat for Jim Montgomery
00:54from what he's hearing.
00:56Does he have to turn things around to keep his job?
00:58Oh, right out of the gate.
01:00I mean, I think that, I mean,
01:02the team needs to turn around anyways.
01:04I don't think, again,
01:06I think we talked about this
01:08maybe last week or the week before
01:10in how players and coaches
01:12and, you know, like this is pro hockey
01:14and they don't wake up worrying
01:16about their jobs.
01:18They're worried about wins and losses
01:20and that's where this group is.
01:22They're trying to figure out how to score more goals.
01:24It's been a problem offensively,
01:27who haven't had good starts to the season
01:29and they're up against
01:31a tough test down here in Carolina.
01:33Do you see or hear
01:35a difference in Jim Montgomery compared
01:37to the last couple of years?
01:39Because we were pointing out how obviously
01:41they had the record-breaking regular season two years ago
01:43started the year 9-1.
01:45Last year, they started the year 9-0-1
01:47even after losing Bergeron to Crecci.
01:49Now this year, 4-5-1
01:51to start and, you know,
01:53we were just playing some of his post-game comments
01:55coming back. But have you noticed a difference
01:57in him, the way he's sort of gone about things?
01:59I noticed
02:01a big difference between
02:03year one and year two.
02:05The record-setting year and then
02:07going into last year without Bergeron,
02:09without Crecci and a little
02:11bit of a leadership void.
02:13I thought he was more
02:15outgoing, more aggressive,
02:17more demonstrative at times.
02:19I think he laid into guys a lot, even through that
02:219-0-1 record. I think he was setting a different
02:23tone than what he had the first year and I think
02:25that tone
02:27has basically
02:29stayed the same going into this
02:31season. Of course, it's probably
02:33a little bit of a louder voice and
02:35a little bit more focused on because they
02:37are 4-5-1 and not 9-0-1.
02:39That's a difference and
02:41certainly that'll
02:43change the narrative and also change
02:45what you're watching
02:47from a coach. So we mentioned
02:49he flipped his lines yesterday
02:51at Bruins practice. I guess we'll see
02:53what they ultimately are here tonight.
02:55But he's basically
02:57mixing his fourth line, which has been a good line,
02:59throughout the other three lines and
03:01trying to shake the team awake. Do you expect
03:03to see those lines tonight and what
03:05do you think of them?
03:07I do expect that. I talked to them this morning.
03:09I am down here in Carolina.
03:11They are going to
03:13split up the fourth line and move them
03:15to other lines to try
03:17and
03:19build the momentum that those guys
03:21have built and bring it to someone
03:23else and get it going that way.
03:25He talked about
03:27not really changing the lines
03:29too much in game,
03:31but he did last game
03:33and got a little bit of a bump in the second period.
03:35It felt like
03:37they had a good six minutes at the end of the second,
03:39had a bad third, which
03:41he said, a vanilla third was his words.
03:43He's looking to
03:45kind of move those guys
03:47around to bring what
03:49they've done so far this season to different lines
03:51and different pairings.
03:53How do you feel about the roster this season
03:55compared to the previous couple?
03:57I've heard people complaining about the roster
03:59and then I look at it and say,
04:01Pasternak, Martian, Coyle, Zaka, McAvoy,
04:03Frederick were your leading scorers a year ago
04:05and Swayman was
04:07obviously one of your two goalies.
04:09They're all back.
04:11I feel like the roster
04:13might not be like, oh look at that, it's a Stanley Cup wagon.
04:15But I feel like the roster is
04:17better than what they've shown. How do you view it?
04:19I agree 100%.
04:21I thought the roster was
04:23bringing in Lindholm,
04:25bringing in Zdorov,
04:27building up the back end the way they did.
04:29I thought three weeks ago,
04:31October 1st,
04:332024 to October 1st,
04:352023, the lineup was much better.
04:37So much better.
04:39And it was because of
04:41the way that Frederick and the way that Geeky
04:43stepped last season. You thought that would continue
04:45and it hasn't to this point.
04:47So I don't see it being a roster
04:49issue. I see it being
04:51Zaka, McAvoy,
04:53Elias Lindholm,
04:55Frederick, Coyle. They have
04:57two points between them in the last
04:59six, seven games. So that's
05:01you know, I don't say, I think
05:03that's just kind of player performance
05:05and they've all kind of hit a cold spot at the start
05:07of the season right now and
05:09it's up to them to turn around
05:11and prove that it is just a cold
05:13spell and not a trend
05:15and not what they are as players anymore.
05:17Andrew Raycroft, the Nessun here on a Bruins
05:19Thursday, Jones and Keefe on
05:21WEEI. I'm curious
05:23about the report this week, or maybe
05:25over the weekend, that the Bruins
05:27were working on an extension for Brad Marshan.
05:29That was from Elliott Friedman. Marshan denied it.
05:31Marshan said there's nothing in the works.
05:33Why would the Bruins
05:35be looking to extend him now? I love
05:37Marshan, but he's not producing.
05:39Marshan's not playing great. I don't really get the
05:41urgency. Why are they looking at getting that
05:43done now?
05:45Well, because he's a Hall of
05:47Famer and one of your best players
05:49and a guy who's your team captain
05:51and a guy who had three surgeries
05:53this year and was going to get the benefit of the doubt
05:55at least probably until
05:57the middle of November. Wasn't there an approach
05:59with Chara and Bergeron and guys like
06:01didn't they wait on those guys? Like why
06:03the urgency with him where there wasn't with some
06:05of those other guys?
06:07I don't know where the urgency is coming from.
06:09Obviously, I don't think Brad's sweating it too
06:11much and I don't think the Bruins are either.
06:13I think when you talk about Zidane Ochara
06:15and Patrice Bergeron, they made a decision to go
06:17year to year and that's
06:19where they were in their careers
06:21and they didn't want to make decisions. If Brad
06:23Marshan knows he wants to play
06:25two more years, then you go
06:27and get that deal done and it's probably
06:29pretty easy considering
06:31he's been here for 13, 14
06:33years now.
06:35I think if Brad wants to sign
06:37it'll get done. It'll be team friendly.
06:39I'm sure it'll be fair. It'll be
06:41an easy kind of situation
06:43and I don't think there is urgency. I think
06:45it's just Elliott Friedman needs to have
06:4732 thoughts on his podcast
06:49and he heard about Brad. That's one of them.
06:51It's a lot of thoughts. That's a lot.
06:53You're pushing yourself. 32 thoughts
06:55is too much. So many.
06:5732 a week is a lot, right?
06:59That's way too much. Now one of the big differences
07:01this year compared to last is the
07:03goalie situation rather than splitting it with
07:05Swayman and Ulmark.
07:07You now have Swayman getting the
07:09majority of the games. He's played seven
07:11of the games so far. Corposalo has played
07:13three. What do you think
07:15of that split overall? And also I'm curious
07:17just your thoughts on the three games that we've seen
07:19from Corposalo.
07:21I thought last game
07:23he was great against Philadelphia. He was
07:25huge in the first 10 minutes
07:27of the game. He made three great saves and
07:29then I like the fact that he was battling all
07:31the way to the end. He made a couple breakaway saves
07:33late in the third period when the team was
07:35pushing down at the other end.
07:37I like this game and I think that
07:39that 7-3 split
07:41is basically what we're going to
07:43see over the 80 game season.
07:45That puts Jeremy Swayman in that
07:4755 percent or
07:4955 game mark and that puts
07:51Corposalo in the 25 game mark.
07:53That's essentially what you're going to see
07:55if everyone stays healthy.
07:57Corposalo has
07:59been better in each of the games he's played
08:01which is really important and
08:03he's been able to
08:05he's won in two but the game he lost
08:07he more than did enough to
08:09keep the team in it.
08:11I've liked the goal tending. I think that's the least
08:13of their worries right now. It's all about offense
08:15but all about them scoring more goals.
08:17You're a fan of Halloween Razor
08:19as I've heard in the
08:21past. I've heard you, was it you
08:23and Gresh Keefe you were talking to him about the tickle trunk?
08:25Oh yeah, we talked tickle trunks.
08:27Did you find out what's in the tickle trunk?
08:29Did you take that on the road with you?
08:31No, I didn't.
08:33My kids are really not happy
08:35with me, especially my daughter.
08:37They really enjoy
08:39that. Yeah, exactly. Get used to it.
08:43We have a lot of costumes for me
08:45to put on if I was at home tonight.
08:47Down here, I'm all
08:49business. I am hoping the crowd
08:51is a little lively
08:53and maybe Philadelphia when I get in later tonight.
08:55Favorite candy?
08:57Favorite Halloween candy that you have?
08:59I'm pretty plain
09:01with it. I like a Snickers
09:03or M&M's.
09:05I'm more of a chocolate guy
09:07I think at this point in my career. I think
09:09earlier in my glory days
09:11I was a Skittles guy or a Starburst
09:13but I'm almost getting a little bit
09:15too old for those.
09:17I'm pretty
09:19standard. You guys?
09:21You know what's funny? Jones and I agree
09:23Reese's Pieces. I like a Reese's Pieces.
09:25Really anything Reese's.
09:27I like a Pieces.
09:29Pieces are hard to find
09:31now. They for sure are.
09:33They don't come in Halloween bags.
09:35Yeah, exactly.
09:37They are delicious. You gotta run into a
09:397-Eleven and grab those. Yeah, those are hard to find
09:41in a Halloween bag for sure.
09:43Are there any
09:45Canadian candies we should...
09:47Is there a different candy
09:49when you're trick-or-treating north of the border?
09:51Okay, so we're gonna do this.
09:53Right? We're really good.
09:55How much time do we have?
09:57As
09:59Montgomery is a Canadian
10:01like myself, we went through the
10:03candies and it's much different.
10:05It's a much better selection.
10:07You wouldn't believe it.
10:09Yes, I swear. I would not lie to you guys.
10:11You would think that
10:13American candy bars are the best
10:15and they have the market cornered
10:17but Canadians... Poutine Reese's Cups.
10:19Yeah, we have so many
10:21different ones. We've got
10:23Coffee Crisp. You gotta put that
10:25in the freezer. That's as good as it gets.
10:27You've got Crispy Crunch. You've got Arrow.
10:29You've got Caramel Bars. You've got Wonder
10:31Bars. All five of those
10:33I would put ahead of any
10:35Snickers bar.
10:37Wow. Okay.
10:39Deported.
10:41Yeah, I'll have to get...
10:43Nice try. I got
10:45my U.S. passport.
10:47I'm not going anywhere.
10:49I'm not going anywhere.
10:51Yeah, I'll try.
10:53My parents will come down. I'll try and get
10:55you guys a little taste.
10:57I think I have had Arrow
10:59before. Yeah? Real good?
11:01Is it a yellow? I'll look it up now.
11:03Is it a yellow wrapper?
11:05Yeah, it can be.
11:07No, no. It's kind of white
11:09but it does have some yellow. Arrow is like
11:11it's just basically chocolate with like holes
11:13in it. It's like really light chocolate.
11:15It's like a really light chocolate bar.
11:17I mean, or the
11:19yellow one's a Caramel Bar. That's the one with
11:21the caramel inside
11:23the little cup. That's
11:25delicious. How come they haven't made their way
11:27down here? I feel like every movie star
11:29comes down from Canada and they live here.
11:31Razor, you know this.
11:33Chips are very different in Canada as
11:35well, Keith. Yeah, I know. Of course.
11:37Ketchup chips. All dressed.
11:39I love an all-dressed chip.
11:41All-dressed chip is
11:43unbelievable. Ketchup. I'm not a ketchup guy.
11:45The places in Montreal I went to were not all-dressed.
11:49Yeah, exactly.
11:51Something else that hasn't
11:53been transported quite down
11:55from Canada.
11:57Well, Razor, we appreciate
11:59the time. Best of luck to the Bruins and
12:01hopefully Monty makes a trip back with you.
12:03Happy Halloween,
12:05guys. Thank you, Razor.
12:07Very good. On a Bruins Thursday. How about that?
12:09Just besmirching American candy.
12:11I hate American candy.
12:13What? What are you looking at?
12:15I can't see anything. There's a glare.
12:17Nick told me to look behind Billy.
12:19I don't see anything. I don't see anything either.
12:21You don't see Michael Myers standing in the window?
12:23Oh, no.
12:25Oh, it's...
12:27Oh, yeah, I do see it now.
12:29Oh, we gotta do the Michael Myers challenge.
12:31Can you hear me? Or Michael Myers, I mean.
12:33Whoever that may be.
12:35We'll do the Michael Myers challenge.
12:37Basically, he's gonna come at me with a knife
12:39and then I'm gonna try to
12:41get in the elevator.
12:43That sounds like a good game.
12:45Keep that mustache on there, guy.
12:47I'm so scared my mustache came off.
12:49Look at this guy. I see him now.
12:51Okay, he's out there. Scary.
12:53Wow. Scary.
12:55How about that, though? Razor just hates
12:57American candy. Five candies
12:59better than any Snickers bar
13:01or M&M. I can't say he's wrong. I've never had
13:03these. I'm not gonna sit here and say...
13:05It kind of makes me want to invade Canada.
13:07When you're talking like that, you're talking
13:09out of pocket like that. Should we get in the car and go?
13:11Kind of think we should invade
13:13as a country right now.
