00:00Welcome back to chapter 2 of our van build, where we tackle our skylights.
00:03They're big, they're curvy, and they're smart.
00:05First up is attaching our specially made adapters to the roof.
00:08It's pretty simple.
00:09Tape off the location, apply some of the really sticky stuff, aka window weld,
00:13and then pop them on.
00:14Eden always gets this stuff on his hand, and spoiler, it does not come off.
00:17Once the adapters are on, it's time to cut out all the metal.
00:20And because we wanted huge skylights, we had to cut out a lot of the support beams on the roof.
00:24This then meant that we had to get these steel frames made to re-strengthen the roof's integrity.
00:28Each frame is through-bolted in six different spots to the original ribs.
00:32I swear, it's stronger than it was before.
00:34Then it was time for the glass.
00:35We went with a half-inch tempered and laminated glass,
00:38which in its simplest forms just means they were crazy heavy.
00:42So of course, our friend Ike gave us a hand.
00:44Last step, and arguably the hardest step, was the smart dent.
00:47Next up, we'll be showing you how we made our skylights into a canyon ceiling,
00:51so follow for chapter 3.
