Transcript
00:00In a cabinet hearing on October 23, President Prabowo Subianto asked the Ministry of Finance to review and cut budget that is considered unnecessary by the ministry and the agency.
00:14In the hearing that lasted two and a half hours, President Prabowo outlined ceremonial activities, service trips, and seminars that, in his opinion, did not have a significant impact on the economy.
00:27The purpose of this step is to avoid budget cuts that can affect fiscal deficits.
00:33Economist from the University of Indonesia, Fitra Faisal Rabu, on October 30, in a virtual interview, assessed this instruction as the right step in managing the country's budget more efficiently.
00:46In his opinion, the money-follow-function principle, in accordance with the rules of the State Financial Law No. 17 of 2003, must be applied so that every government spending is targeted.
00:58Fitra explained that budget savings can suppress fiscal deficits projected at around 2.5% next year.
01:05Thus, state spending is expected to remain maintained and does not trigger a rise in deficits.
01:11Budget cuts for non-productive programs, in his opinion, are important steps to achieve efficiency.
01:41On the other hand, Fitra also stated that a large number of ministries could be a burden for bureaucracy.
02:06However, he sees it as a step for Prabowo's policy to include various parties.
02:11In addition, with a larger number of ministries, ministers can be more focused on handling specific tasks according to their respective fields, so that the efficiency can be more optimal.
02:21Fitra added that the Ministry of Finance under Minister Sri Mulyani has implemented the principle of caution in spending for several governments.
02:31In his opinion, the efficiency request from President Prabowo is not a new thing, and the Ministry of Finance is believed to be able to carry out this saving properly.
