00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we are looking at the absolute best side adventures in The
00:12Legend of Zelda that distract us from saving Hyrule.
00:20Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:25the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:29The Lomai Labyrinths The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
00:40Breath of the Wild featured three labyrinths as excellent challenges to get lost in, but
00:45Tears of the Kingdom made them even better.
00:48Each one begins with a mystery, a journal of a researcher leaving a trail of pine cones
00:53for Link to follow while avoiding puddles of gloom.
00:56Things get really fun, though, when you travel to each one's counterparts in the sky and
01:01depths.
01:03Navigating the low-gravity sky labyrinths, gliding through paths to unlock the exit,
01:08feels incredible.
01:10So too does diving from the game's highest point all the way to its lowest, where Link
01:15is met by a fiercely fun fight against a third-level flux construct.
01:21Roads are solid, too, with a couple of shrines and the Evil Spirit armor set.
01:30Zunari's Shop The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker
01:42There are a lot of trading quests in Zelda, and while Wind Waker's isn't the best one,
01:48it is, just like the rest of the game, packed with charm.
01:52At a certain point, Zunari of Windfall Island will ask Link to help him expand his shop.
01:57You do this by taking his flower to one of three Gorons on different islands, and proceeding
02:03to do the same with the 11 other items, eventually earning a piece of heart and the magic armor.
02:09The charm comes afterwards, when Link can decorate the entirety of Windfall using said
02:15items for another piece of heart.
02:17You can take the easy route by purchasing only the cheaper products, which, admittedly
02:22is fair, prices range from 10 to 200 rupees.
02:27But loosening the purse strings a bit allows the designer in you to bring even more delight
02:32to an already lovely locale.
02:41The Riddle Quest The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past and
02:45Four Swords
02:54The Game Boy Advance version of A Link to the Past featured a new side quest that tied
02:59in with the multiplayer add-on.
03:01Before you could take it on, you had to have 10 Medals of Courage and 4 Swords, which you
03:06got by being the Link with the most rupees at the end of a stage.
03:10After that, you could speak to the Lumberjack, Q Bumpkin, who would ask for 10 different
03:15items and creatures, all accompanied by a riddle.
03:19Solving the riddles, tracking these down, and scooping them up with a net made for a
03:23fun scavenger hunt.
03:25It also got you some nice wood carvings for Link's house and, at the end, the very destructive
03:31Hurricane Spin.
03:38Joanne the Mermaid The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass
03:52Sometimes we like a quest because it's just plain silly.
03:56On Bannon Island, Link can find the old Wayfarer, who's obsessed with meeting a mermaid.
04:02Well, after defeating the island's monsters, you can find one...except not really.
04:07Upon hitting the skittish mermaid with your boomerang, you learn Joanne is not a mermaid,
04:12but a cosplayer.
04:14Despite being rightfully annoyed about being walloped by a boomerang, she agrees to go
04:18see the Wayfarer upon hearing about him.
04:21And after a brief run-in with Linebeck, you can find her back at the old man's hut.
04:26She decides to keep pretending to be a mermaid, and the Wayfarer is none the wiser.
04:31It's an odd quest, but an entertaining one.
04:33Oh, and it gets you fishing, if you're into that sort of thing.
04:41The Stolen Heirloom The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
04:50Once you complete three other quests in Kakariko Village, you'll find that the orb inside Impa's
04:55home has gone missing.
04:57Entrusted to find the thief, Link can question the townsfolk for an engaging and surprisingly
05:02deep mystery.
05:04At 10 o'clock at night, he can follow Dorian, one of the guards, who confronts the Yiga
05:08clan blademaster who took it.
05:11Link gets to fight him off, but what's most enjoyable is learning about Dorian.
05:15It's revealed he was once a Yiga, but left when he met his wife and had children.
05:20The Yiga took her life as punishment and threatened to do the same to his daughters, exploiting
05:25him for information on you and stealing the precious heirloom from Impa, the last straw
05:30for Dorian.
05:31It's a tragic, memorable corner of Breath of the Wild's narrative, especially when
05:36interacting with his daughters.
05:45Kallen's Love Letter The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword
05:55Kallen is one of Groose's cronies, who spends most of the game helping his able-bodied friend
05:59taunt and berate Link.
06:01At a certain point, he'll ask Link to deliver a love letter to Corain, which leads to one
06:06of two outcomes.
06:07You can give the letter to a ghost found in the Academy's bathroom at night, which will
06:11fall in love with Kallen and spend subsequent nights in his room caressing him as he sleeps.
06:22But if you give it to Corain, it leads to her getting together with Pipit instead, sending
06:26Kallen running away crying.
06:28Either way, Kallen doesn't get what he wants, but you get five Gratitude Crystals and the
06:33reward of enacting sweet emotional revenge on one of Link's tormentors.
06:43The Pirate Hideout The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks
06:55Who doesn't love a thrilling rescue mission?
06:58After finishing a fetch quest for a woman in Papuchia Village, Link will unlock new
07:02tracks that lead to a hideout filled with pirates.
07:05Or rather, a bunch of those annoying mini-blins.
07:09He'll find a villager in need of rescue, prompting a fantastic mini-game where you
07:13shoot as many of these little gremlins as you can.
07:16From Jail Cell to Minecart, the DS's stylus is a great tool for the bow.
07:21And we won't lie, it's really satisfying sniping all these mini-blins.
07:26You can also go back to rescue a Goron, but this time must score enough points to win
07:30a bigger quiver and a heart container.
07:33It's simply addictive.
07:39Saving Lurelin Village The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
07:50Sticking with the theme of monster pirates, let's talk about Lurelin Village.
07:55As you meet citizens from the beachside town in Tears of the Kingdom, you learn it has
07:59been invaded by pirates.
08:01When you reach it yourself, you find it swarming with enemies, which can offer a decent challenge
08:06depending on how far you've progressed in the game.
08:09Ridding the place is a ton of fun, though, and it's also rewarding to free the homes
08:13of these villagers, especially if you happen to find one on the road before they've returned,
08:19so you can give them the good news.
08:21Rebuilding the village after the fight can be a little tedious with the resources required,
08:26but it's worth it to see the community come back together.
08:35The Spring of Wisdom The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
08:49Breath of the Wild is full of stunning moments, chief among them a sequence where Link frees
08:54an ice dragon from corruption atop a mountain peak.
08:58Meta in Hateno Village will tell Link about a secret spring on Mount Lanayru, and heading
09:03to the Spring of Wisdom, you'll find Nadra, the aforementioned dragon, covered in malice
09:08and evil eyes which Link must shoot to free her.
09:11Gliding down the mountainside in pursuit, using gusts of wind to propel you, and hopefully
09:16Revali's Gale if you have it, makes for a standout scene.
09:21On top of being beautiful, you get the satisfaction of aiding an ancient, almighty deity.
09:32The Postman The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask
09:45While part of his story crosses into the Anju and Caffe saga, which we'll obviously
09:50touch on, the postman of Majora's Mask deserves his own spot.
09:55His extreme devotion to his job is immediately apparent.
09:58Following him throughout the three day cycle reveals he wants to flee town like most everyone
10:03else, but can't bring himself to because it isn't on the schedule.
10:08Unless you intervene, his story ends with him wallowing on the floor in uncertainty
10:13until the moon falls.
10:14However, if you're doing the Anju and Caffe quest, Link enlists him to send the couple
10:20letters.
10:21Eventually, you can give him priority mail to deliver to Caffe's mother, who gives
10:25him orders to flee.
10:26Seeing him able to abandon his post without guilt is all the more satisfying, having seen
10:31the alternative.
10:42The Cave of Ordeals The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
10:53Several entries hold combat challenges, but the one in Twilight Princess is perhaps the
10:58best.
10:59In the Gerudo Mesa, you can take on a 50 floor dungeon of increasingly stronger enemies,
11:06but you'll need all items from the dungeons in order to fully complete it.
11:10Twilight Princess has some of the strongest enemy designs in the series, as well as some
11:14of the strongest combat thanks to the hidden skills Link learns.
11:18The Cave of Ordeals is obviously a fairly big endeavor to take on that you should be
11:23appropriately prepared for, but it's a lot of fun and understandably rewarding to make
11:28it to the end of.
11:30You feel accomplishment, but it also unlocks fairies at each of the spirit springs and
11:34gets you great fairy tears, which completely refill Link's health and give him a brief
11:40damage boost.
11:47Potential Princess Sightings The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
11:59This one's a bit of a cheat, considering it encompasses multiple side quests, but Potential
12:04Princess Sightings has too many great moments and rewards, making it one of the strongest
12:10side adventures in Tears of the Kingdom.
12:13It follows Link teaming up with Pin, a member of the Rideau, and reporter for the Lucky
12:17Clover Gazette.
12:19At most stables across Hyrule, you'll find him investigating reports on information of
12:24the missing Zelda.
12:25None of it ever leads to her, of course, but they do lead to things like a Yiga pretending
12:30to be a psychic cuckoo, a special breed of animal that eats luminous stones and poops
12:35out gems, and the ability to access great fairies through the power of music.
12:41It's all highly entertaining, and you earn a ton of money and the slip-resistant froggy
12:46suit for covering the stories.
12:47Also, Pin is never not delightful.
12:58Defending Romani Ranch The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask
13:03While Epona is required in Ocarina's follow-up, helping Romani Ranch isn't.
13:07But how could you say no when a sweet child asks for help against an alien invasion?
13:12Fighting them off isn't too hard, but where the aliens came from and why they want the
13:16ranch's cows is one of the biggest mysteries in the game.
13:19Afterwards, you can escort Romani's older sister Cremia to Clock Town while defending
13:24against the vile Gorman Brothers.
13:32Completing both parts gets you a bottle of milk and a shiny new mask, but the sisters
13:37are also some of the most engaging NPCs in the game, which is saying a lot.
13:41It's also worth visiting the ranch after the first night if you don't help to see
13:46how alien abduction has impacted the sisters.
13:55Eventide Island The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
14:09Over the course of Breath of the Wild, you build up your inventory of impressive weapons
14:13and resources.
14:14But Eventide Island strips you of everything, save for your Sheikah Slate and any champion
14:19abilities you may have unlocked.
14:21The island tasks you with collecting three ancient orbs to gain access to a shrine.
14:31You'll only have resources the island offers you while having to contest with its enemies,
14:35one of which is a Hinox wearing an ancient orb as a necklace.
14:39It's a great test of the player's abilities without relying on an arsenal.
14:43It forced us to plan strategically before acting, like one big combative puzzle.
14:48And it's definitely the best shrine quest the game has to offer.
14:57The Big Goron Sword The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
15:05Trading quests have been seen in many Zelda games, though one of the most beneficial was
15:09an Ocarina of Time.
15:11Beginning with a Kuko Egg in Kakariko Village, this quest took Link all over Hyrule.
15:16Matching each item with the correct NPC required paying attention and a certain amount of exploration
15:21as some of the characters were hidden in small corners of the world.
15:32But it was a fun distraction from the main adventure, and a distraction more than worth
15:36following.
15:37It eventually earned Link the Big Goron Sword, which is longer and twice as strong as the
15:42Master Sword, but at the cost of Link's shield.
15:49Mallow Mart The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
15:58Mallow is a sassy, business-savvy baby, and by far one of the best NPCs in Twilight Princess.
16:05He eventually opens his own shop in Kakariko Village, though Link can help him expand.
16:10It does take 1000 rupees, as you'll have to repair Hyrule's eastern bridge first.
16:15Then you can either pay 2000 for Mallow to purchase a rival store in the castle's town,
16:19or 200 with the caveat that you give hot spring water to a certain Goron.
16:29But ponying up the dough is a small price to pay.
16:32With the Mallow Mart castle branch open, Link will be able to afford the magic armor,
16:37which makes him invincible by siphoning rupees.
16:40Seeing the snooty owner dance around in a Mallow Mart uniform is just a nice bonus.
16:50The Nintendo Gallery The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker
17:01One of the best side quests in The Wind Waker doesn't actually get you anything, but is
17:05nonetheless immensely rewarding to complete.
17:09First you'll have to finish Lenzo's quest on Windfall Island to get the Deluxe Picto
17:12Box.
17:13After that, you'll be able to visit Karlov at the Nintendo Gallery located by Forest
17:18Haven.
17:23This eccentric sculptor will lovingly craft models of any character or enemy you show
17:28him a picture of.
17:30With multiple rooms for different islands and environments, filling each one is a grand
17:34accomplishment in and of itself.
17:36This obviously isn't a quest for everyone, but we loved admiring our collection of minifigurines
17:42and basking in this entry's unique art style.
17:49From the Ground Up The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
17:59After Link purchases a home in Hateno Village, Bolson Construction employee Hudson will set
18:03off to establish a new town.
18:06You'll find him again in the Akala region, where he'll ask for Link's help.
18:10While part of this quest requires a bit too much wood collecting, the other part has Link
18:14recruit various NPCs to join Hudson's village.
18:25Each one is dissatisfied with their current life, and jumps at the chance to open up shop
18:29in a new location.
18:31Seeing the town grow with each step is joyful, and the quest even ends with a wedding.
18:36More NPCs will move in, creating an adorable little community where once it was a desolate
18:41rock in the middle of a lake.
18:48Madison's Independence The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
18:52Tears of the Kingdom follows up the Tarry Town quest with a touching continuation.
19:04A few years later, Hudson and Ronson are still married, running a construction company and
19:09raising their daughter Madison.
19:11However, as is her people's custom, Madison must prepare to leave her childhood home and
19:16head to Gerudo Town.
19:18Link is asked to spend time with her to make her feel less lonely, but the quest culminates
19:23in helping father and daughter build a hot air balloon, leading to a lovely scene across
19:28the sky.
19:36The goodbye that comes soon after is certain to pull at the heart strings, though it's
19:41a lovely moment of growth and letting go.
19:44Banju and Caffe The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask
19:53Half of Majora's Mask consists of side quests, though the most emotionally fulfilling revolves
19:58around these two doomed lovers.
20:01Before the game begins, poor Caffe is transformed into a child by the Skull Kid and has his
20:06ceremonial wedding mask stolen by Sakon.
20:09He then hides out, with Link offering aid to his loved ones before helping Caffe track
20:14down the thief.
20:22It's the longest side quest in the game, bringing in multiple interesting NPCs like
20:26the heartbroken yet steadfast Anju and the anxiety-ridden Postman.
20:30It requires keeping track of a multitude of events across the time loop, but it leads
20:34to several masks, pieces of heart, and other rewards.
20:38And everything is worth it to see the two finally reunite.
