'A story that's never been told before' awaits Indiana Jones fans ahead of game release

A preview event for a new Indiana Jones video game, which is to be released on 9 December, takes place in London. "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle" is a collaboration between MachineGames and Lucasfilm Games, resulting in "a really good story but a new story that's never been told before" says Creative Director at MachineGames Axel Torvenius. The game was developed with a focus on gamer experience, with the Indiana Jones character seen in a "very up close and personal" way.

00:00Would it make sense that Indiana Jones is kicking down doors shooting guns like a Rambo
00:29character?
00:30Absolutely not.
00:31Would it make sense that he's stealthing around doing stealth kills like a ninja?
00:35Absolutely not.
00:36So trying to figure out and find the key components, what would be the best representation of an
00:43Indiana Jones game experience?
00:46I would be lying if I said we didn't feel the pressure, specifically in the beginning,
00:51of course.
00:52Then after a while, it becomes, you kind of, I wouldn't say forget about the pressure because
00:59it's constantly there, right?
01:01And we have taken this task with a great seriousness, really trying to make sure that we're honoring
01:11the character and the franchise, making sure that it really, really sits well with Lucasfilm
01:17Games and that they are happy with us portraying their beloved character in the bestest way
01:23possible.
01:24There's also, you know, we need that we also need to make the game that we really wanted
01:29to make.
01:30And those two have aligned very nicely.
01:34We've been having this great working relationship with Lucasfilm Games throughout the entire
01:38production cycle.
01:40One of them is that being in first person, you become very up close and personal to everything
01:48that you experience in the game, regardless if it is inspecting old scriptures on a wall
01:55or dusting off old books, finding clues, or even the pleasure of punching an enemy soldier
02:03in the face.
02:04There's an intimacy that is happening when you're doing it in first person that we think
02:10is a really good fit for the franchise and for the character.
02:16This is completely new.
02:19And that's part of the beauty to it, for me at least, because if you look at all the other
02:23existing stories being told within the Indiana Jones franchise, what they do have in common
02:30is that they are great stories.
02:32And then, of course, they also have the character of Indiana Jones being a common factor in
02:37there.
02:38But they are great stories being told.
02:40And to have the opportunity to add something new to that, the challenge was, of course,
02:46to write a story, a really good story, but a new story that's never been told before.
02:53And that's what I feel that we are delivering now with this installment of the game.
