Sony has closed Firewalk Studios, the developer behind the ill-fated live-service shooter Concord. The closure comes after the disastrous launch of the game which saw concurrent players fall to the single digits practically from Day 1. The game was pulled soon after. In other news, BioWare is assuring fans that Mass Effect will not undergo a visual style change like sister IP Dragon Age did.

00:02Concord developer Firewalk Studios has been shut down.
00:05BioWare is assuring fans Mass Effect 5 will look consistent with the others in the series.
00:09You can't shoot dogs in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

00:14And Stardew Valley's creator finally earned the hardest achievement in the game.

00:18Sony is shuttering Firewalk Studios in the wake of its disastrous release of Concord,
00:33the PS5 shooter that lasted less than two weeks before being shuttered.
00:36The news was first reported by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier.
00:39The closure follows the reported departure of director Ryan Ellis,
00:41who stepped down after Concord was taken offline.
00:44Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed the news and shared the internal email
00:47from studio business group CEO Herman Holst with a statement.
00:50Holst writes that SIE had, quote,
00:52spent considerable time these past few months exploring all our options,
00:55but ultimately decided to sunset the studio, which it acquired in April 2023.
00:58The email also announces SIE's decision to close Neon Koi,
01:02a German studio working on a mobile action game.
01:04The statement reads, in part,
01:05Regarding Firewalk, certain aspects of Concord were exceptional,
01:09but others did not land with enough players, and as a result, we took the game offline.
01:13After much thought, we have determined the best path forward
01:15is to permanently sunset the game and close the studio.
01:18I want to thank all of Firewalk for their craftsmanship, creative spirit, and dedication.
01:22The PVP first-person shooter genre is a competitive space that's continuously evolving,
01:26and unfortunately, we did not hit our targets with this title.
01:28We will take the lessons learned from Concord
01:30and continue to advance our live service capabilities to deliver future growth in this area.
01:34I know none of this is easy news to hear,
01:36particularly with colleagues and friends departing SIE.
01:38Both decisions were given serious thought,
01:40and ultimately, we feel they are the right ones to strengthen the organization.
01:43We will work to find placement for some of those impacted
01:46within our global community of studios where possible.
01:48Concord is one of the biggest disasters in PlayStation history.
01:51After years of costly development,
01:53the PVP first-person shooter launched August 23rd,
01:56priced at $40 on PC and PlayStation 5,
01:58but its sales were estimated to be only around $25,000,
02:02and its peak Steam concurrent player count was shockingly low.
02:04Sony then removed Concord from sale just 11 days after launch, issuing refunds in the process.
02:09There was some thought that Concord could return someday in another form,
02:12perhaps as a free-to-play game.
02:14Now we know that won't be happening.
02:16Moving on, BioWare's next Mass Effect game is still a ways off,
02:19but fans are already worried the game will ditch
02:21the photorealistic and mature tone of the previous entries.
02:24Much has already been made about BioWare's other RPG series, Dragon Age,
02:27which changed up its look from the mature and photorealistic, for the time,
02:30aesthetic of Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age II,
02:32to a more cartoonish and stylized look in Inquisition
02:35and the recent fourth game, The Veil Guard.
02:37Via Eurogamer, Mass Effect 5's project director, Michael Gamble,
02:40took to Twitter to respond to a fan's comment about Dragon Age's new look.
02:43When the fan brought up Dragon Age's Pixar look, Gamble said,
02:46quote,
02:59As for the tone of the game, Gamble continued it will, quote,
03:06BioWare has dropped a teaser and some screenshots over the years,
03:08but that's about it.
03:09However, N7 Day is just around the corner on November 7th.
03:12It's a safe bet that's when we'll hear more about the new Mass Effect.
03:16Also today, we can now confirm you cannot shoot dogs
03:19in the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
03:21Animal lovers were a little worried,
03:22considering developer MachineGames' Wolfenstein games
03:25were not too kind to our furry friends.
03:27But rest assured, Indy won't be shooting any dogs in his new game.
03:30In a wide-ranging interview with IGN,
03:32MachineGames' creative director, Jens Andersen,
03:34explained that it's already been established that Indiana Jones is a dog person,
03:37or at least his family is.
03:38In the film, The Last Crusade, Indy's father reveals
03:40that his son's famous nickname came from the family dog.
03:43And while you will encounter dog enemies in the Great Circle,
03:45you're not really going to hurt them, just scare them away.
03:48Other tidbits from our extensive preview of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
03:51reveal that the game isn't meant to be part of a larger story,
03:53and it's meant to be a standalone entry, just like the movies are.

03:59And finally, after eight years, Stardew Valley's solo developer,
04:02Eric ConcernedApe Barone,
04:04has earned what is considered to be the hardest achievement in the game,
04:07the Fector's Challenge achievement.
04:09Achievement must be earned by beating the arcade game within a game,
04:12Journey of the Prairie King, at the Stardew Saloon, without dying.
04:15You get an achievement for just beating the game,
04:17but what Barone did was considerably more intense.
04:19The game is a twin-stick shooter with three stages,
04:21broken up into multiple levels, plus boss fights.
04:23So if you're struggling to 100% the game, fret not,
04:26for it took the game's creator all these years to grab that last achievement.
