00:00Hi, I'm Jonathan Rogers, Game Director on Path of Exile 2.
00:04Unfortunately, I have some really bad news.
00:07We have to delay early access for three weeks.
00:10The new date is the 6th of December.
00:12I'm really sorry about this one.
00:14People plan time off and things like that around our launches,
00:17but we just have to do it.
00:19So what happened?
00:20Well, it turns out it isn't really the game itself that we're behind on.
00:23It's a bunch of server-side infrastructure work
00:25that has taken us a lot longer than we expected.
00:28Now, one of the key promises we made is that all your microtransactions
00:31will work across both PoE 1 and 2.
00:33In order to do that, we have to integrate the account systems
00:36for not only PoE 1 and 2, but also for the console realms as well.
00:40This meant changing a lot of things.
00:42Not only do we have to create a bunch of new systems,
00:44we have to make sure that all the old data is backwards-compatible with them as well.
00:48And when you start migrating databases that are this old and with this much data,
00:51you find all sorts of strange demons in there.
00:54How do multiple accounts get the same name?
00:56How do multiple accounts get the same email address?
00:58How do multiple accounts have the same Steam IDs?
01:00Why is this person's account name just random gibberish that doesn't even decode?
01:04We have to get everything perfect so that nobody loses anything they paid for
01:08and nobody has their account broken.
01:10At the same time, because we're changing all this backend code,
01:12we have to do a lot of load testing to make sure the whole thing doesn't fall over
01:15when they quit the huge number of players that we're expecting at launch.
01:18I actually believe that we could possibly have made the original launch date,
01:21but I'm no longer confident we could do it without making mistakes.
01:24And these are the kind of mistakes that we just can't let happen.
01:27So with that in mind, we've decided to delay.
01:29Now this one's totally on me.
01:31I just didn't leave enough time to make sure we could get it done.
01:34And I'm really sorry. This one really hurts.
01:37Now we're going to be having a livestream talking about all the content you can expect
01:40in PoE 2's early access in about four weeks.
01:42You can think of it like the biggest league announcement we've ever done.
01:45I'm really looking forward to telling you guys about the endgame content
01:48that the team have been working hard on.
01:50Until then, thank you very much for your support.
