The bus fare cap in England will be raised to £3 in the budget, the prime minister has announced. It is an increase on the current cap of £2 which was introduced under the previous Conservative government to help ease the cost-of-living crisis.

00:00On the £2 bus fare, the first thing to say is the Tories only funded that until the end of 2024
00:08and therefore that is the end of the funding in relation to the £2 capped fare.
00:13I do know how much this matters, particularly in rural communities where
00:17there's heavy reliance on buses and that's why I'm able to say to you this morning
00:23that in the budget we will announce there'll be a £3 cap on buses to the end of 2025
00:31because I know how important it is. So that'll be there in the budget on Wednesday.
