00:00Good afternoon, I am William Theo and this is PTV News Now.

00:09Kicking off the work week and tops on our news leader board at this hour, massive clearing

00:14drives and rehabilitation work on roadways and bridges have been ongoing over the last

00:20several weeks in preparation for the Days of the Dead celebration this weekend to ensure

00:25commuter safety and motorist smooth travel.

00:29So declares a DPWH statement released today claiming the agency would also field and deploy

00:35composite teams to key and strategic locations across the country on Halloween from 8am to

00:425 in the afternoon of All Souls Day or November 2nd this Saturday under the Lakbay Alalay

00:48program.

00:49The DPWH Lakbay Alalay teams are composed of uniformed field and crew people who will

00:55be working round the clock shifts and will receive assistance from the LTO, the police

01:00and the local government units.

01:05In other news, people respond or react more to bad news, it's proven.

01:09Just the same, voters react to darkest fears even if false and fake than hope and promise

01:15that's palpably real.

01:17And so with barely a week left to Decision Day, USAGOP presidential nominee Donald Trump

01:23earlier today launched his darkest ever stump speech in the most famous sports arena in

01:28a city that never sleeps.

01:30Trump and his lineup of front-act speakers zeroed in on an apocalyptic message on how

01:37illegal immigrants have destroyed America.

01:40The same message he banked on in 2016 that won him the presidency but far darker and

01:46more dreadful.

01:48One speaker, a comedian, mocked how blacks used to carve watermelons way before pumpkins

01:53and referred to Puerto Rico as a floating island of garbage.

01:58This meeting to advance a presidential campaign which packed Madison Square Garden also featured

02:04its share of sexist and misogynistic fare with renowned wrestler Hulk Hogan echoing

02:09a malicious comment on Vice President Kamala Harris.

02:13At this point, there is no clear leader between the Trump and Harris campaigns in the seven

02:18battleground states, although many pundits and political observants admit Trump is surging

02:24while Harris struggles to win independence and the undecided despite banking on celebrities

02:30endorsing her.

02:32Next Tuesday you have to stand up and you have to tell Kamala Harris that you've done

02:40a terrible job.

02:43That crooked Joe Biden has done a terrible job.

02:48You've destroyed our country.

02:51We're not going to take it anymore.

02:54Kamala, you're fired.

02:56Get out.

02:58In his rounds Sunday of TV media outlets, Trump VP running mate and Ohio Senator J.D.

03:06Vance pushed back on claims by Trump's longest running chief of staff, a former four-star

03:12Marine general and ex-Joints chief of staff chairman and four-star General Mark Milley

03:18of Trump being fascist by his actions and record in office.

03:23Vance called them disgruntled employees as we hear more from VOA's Veronica Valderas-Iglesias.

03:32John Kelly served as White House chief of staff for former President Donald Trump from

03:362017 to 2019.

03:39In a recent interview with The New York Times, the retired four-star Marine general was asked

03:45if Trump was a fascist and replied, quoting here, he's certainly an authoritarian, admires

03:51people who are dictators.

03:54He has said that.

03:55So he certainly falls into the general definition of fascist for sure.

04:00Trump reacted to the accusations on his truth social media platform, writing, among other

04:04things, John Kelly is a lowlife and a bad general whose advice in the White House I

04:10no longer sought and told him to move on.

04:14On Sunday, Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance commented on remarks by Kelly and

04:20former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley that Trump is a fascist.

04:26People who worked most closely with him, most of them are supporting this ticket.

04:30Mark Milley and John Kelly are both disgruntled former employees.

04:33Thirteen former Trump aides, however, released an open letter on Friday backing John Kelly's

04:40remarks and warning the Republican presidential nominee is, quote, unfit to serve.

04:47Republican Senator Lindsey Graham strongly disagrees.

04:51I was around him.

04:52I don't think he's a fascist.

04:53I thought he was a very strong president at a time we needed a strong president.

04:58I think he will be a strong president to get this country back on track.

05:01Targeting battleground voters, the Democratic presidential campaign of Vice President Kamala

05:07Harris has been running an ad with audio of John Kelly's remarks.

05:12Harris herself hasn't shied away from voicing similar concerns.

05:17Donald Trump is increasingly unhinged and unstable.

05:22And in a second term, people like John Kelly would not be there to be the guardrails against

05:29his propensities and his actions.

05:32Independent Senator Bernie Sanders, who supports Harris's bid for the White House, was asked

05:38Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press whether he believes Trump is a fascist.

05:43I don't like using those words, but clearly he has a strong, strong tendency to authoritarianism

05:50and to undermining American democracy.

05:53The controversy comes as both presidential nominees prepare to wrap up their campaigns.

05:59Trump campaigns in battleground states later in the week after a Sunday rally at New York's

06:04Madison Square Garden.

06:06Harris is also scheduled to visit all swing states in the coming days.

06:11She will deliver a quote, closing argument to voters near the Washington National Mall

06:17on Tuesday.
