00:00:00Previously, our blockheads kicked off backyard week.
00:00:04Managed chaos.
00:00:05I've never seen so many trucks, so many guys, so many pieces of machinery and equipment
00:00:11operating in the one place.
00:00:14One team failed to keep up.
00:00:16They've turned around the delivery for the timber, for the steel, for everything that
00:00:20we ordered from Minotown.
00:00:21Because of the congestion in the driveway.
00:00:23Deliveries affects us at the back of the block at the moment.
00:00:26Nothing's getting through.
00:00:27They faced one setback after another.
00:00:30What's this I hear about you're not getting delivery of plants?
00:00:34We were under the impression that all our plants were sorted.
00:00:37Clay's trying really hard to stay on top of everything.
00:00:39Apparently that was not quite the case.
00:00:41There's a lot of work to be done back there, that's for sure.
00:00:44Tonight, it's the final push to reveal, but Carly and Brad fall even further behind.
00:00:53Everyone else's yards are developing and ours isn't.
00:00:56It's a pretty dire situation.
00:00:57A major problem is found in house one.
00:01:00Can't be revealed.
00:01:01No, it's gotta go.
00:01:02What?
00:01:03Sorry guys.
00:01:04The boys have put so much hard work in and I can't afford this mistake.
00:01:08And the backyards are revealed to the judges.
00:01:11Oh my God.
00:01:14What on earth?
00:01:15With special guest and landscape guru, Dave Franklin, joining the lineup.
00:01:19As soon as you walk in, you're drawn to it.
00:01:21It does scream resort.
00:01:23No offence, but it's just landscaping.
00:01:26What we're seeing is a really poorly planned, uninviting space.
00:01:48Saturday on the block is crazy every week, but backyard week is just another story.
00:01:55There is so many people.
00:02:00You have people working on top of each other.
00:02:02The landscapers are running around, like trying to plant trees and there's heaps of them and
00:02:05we're trying to dig holes to help them.
00:02:08You have people coming in for the pool.
00:02:10You have the dream court going in.
00:02:12Yeah, there was just a million things happening.
00:02:17Baby, don't you...
00:02:20Matty and Charlotte's backyard stretches across 448 square metres in size.
00:02:25It will include a half-size basketball court and recreation area, as well as a spiral staircase
00:02:31to the mezzanine of their home.
00:02:33Around the corner will be their above-ground pool, a deck and an outdoor kitchen, as well
00:02:39as a dining and lounge area, a fire pit area with a pizza oven and a deck off the main
00:02:44suite.
00:02:46Oh, it is very frantic.
00:02:47We've got all our carpenters giving us a chop out here for the decking.
00:02:50Plenty of decking to go.
00:02:51We've also got a barbecue area going in, which is really pretty cool.
00:02:54We're going to be racy for this one, I think.
00:02:56We always want to do an outdoor kitchen, like fridge, a sink and a barbecue all in one.
00:03:01We're like, we'll do it ourselves.
00:03:04And then we're like, oh, we need to put a bench top on it.
00:03:07Madeline went to go and pick up stone from like an hour and a half away because we got
00:03:12decked on quoted and it was going to be six grand and we cannot afford that.
00:03:16Our budget is looking very tight.
00:03:18Front yard is going to be very minimalistic.
00:03:21So, yeah, not looking great.
00:03:24We have to win this week.
00:03:29Next door in house two is Courtney and Grant's 403 square metre backyard.
00:03:34It will feature a large deck off their living area with an undercover barbecue, dining and
00:03:39lounge space, as well as a pizza oven.
00:03:41There'll also be a fire pit area, a pool with sun deck and an additional seating area
00:03:47with an outdoor fireplace.
00:03:57Saturday morning, we're off and running.
00:04:00We've got our new plants all laid out in the ground.
00:04:02They're ready to be put in.
00:04:04The mulch is ready to be installed and the turf is waiting to be rolled out nice and fresh.
00:04:10Feeling really good.
00:04:11Feeling really good.
00:04:12We're in a good position.
00:04:13We looked around last night and we're very happy with what we've produced.
00:04:17We're in a good spot.
00:04:18So we're happy.
00:04:19Very happy.
00:04:20I'm happy.
00:04:21Believe it or not.
00:04:30Mate, this has come along nicely.
00:04:34Very chilled vibes over in house two.
00:04:36We're good.
00:04:37We're in a good spot.
00:04:38Very chilled vibes.
00:04:39Very chilled.
00:04:40Yeah.
00:04:41Very chilled.
00:04:42Dan thinks we're in a good position.
00:04:43I think, yeah, we're looking good.
00:04:45It feels nice and calming.
00:04:47Yeah.
00:04:48I feel like we're in a good spot.
00:04:50We've still got a bit to do tonight, but it's doable.
00:04:54So with house two in such a good spot, they're the first to get their pool filled with one
00:05:01final step to go.
00:05:02Miles, how are you, mate?
00:05:04Yeah, good.
00:05:05How are you doing?
00:05:07Pouring in some of these revived minerals by Purite.
00:05:09And that's, I guess, instead of doing chlorine, this is a lot healthier.
00:05:12Yeah, yeah.
00:05:13So gone are the days of the red ice.
00:05:15These actually help you maintain the balance in the pool.
00:05:18They're actually good for your skin and hair.
00:05:20That's awesome, mate.
00:05:21All right.
00:05:22We'll leave you to it.
00:05:25Welcome to our garden.
00:05:26It's time to begin.
00:05:27I'm counting in.
00:05:28Five, six, seven, eight.
00:05:30The boys' backyard is a massive 488 square metres in size.
00:05:34It will feature their large wraparound lawn, a deck off their main bedroom, a large swing
00:05:39set, and their huge plunging pool and deck area, with a mosaic feature wall behind it.
00:05:45The boys are teddy landscaping, hammering away, getting the edging done.
00:05:49Turf's getting laid.
00:05:50Tons of pots to go in.
00:05:52Plenty of turf here, yeah, outdoor deck.
00:05:55Off the main bedroom, more turf.
00:05:57Cricket pitch turf.
00:05:58Yeah, we've got to finish off the turf, finish off this deck here, finish off the deck over
00:06:03the other side, and then furnish it.
00:06:06No landscaping, no problems.
00:06:08RNH, we got this.
00:06:09Five, six, seven, eight.
00:06:12Next door in house four, Carly and Brad have the smallest backyard at 378 square metres.
00:06:18Their space includes their stone cladded pool, a timber boardwalk and large stone pavers.
00:06:24They'll also have a fire pit area with their curved concrete bench, as well as a narrow
00:06:29yard leading around to the side of the property, where they'll have a lawn, plus a private
00:06:34entrance to the communal tennis court.
00:06:38What's happening with your landscaping?
00:06:48Next question.
00:06:51I don't know what's happening.
00:06:54Not much.
00:06:56There's a lot to do and everyone else's yard's developing and ours isn't.
00:07:01I'm concerned and it stresses Brad out, so...
00:07:07Where are we?
00:07:08Where are we at?
00:07:09What are we doing?
00:07:10We're going to try and get this as presentable as we can for you, mate.
00:07:13We're going to just do what we can.
00:07:17Yeah, it's a pretty dire situation.
00:07:20Yeah.
00:07:21We're significantly behind in the backyard.
00:07:24There's been huge amounts of construction going on there still.
00:07:27I know you're stressed out, mate, so am I, but come on, I want to get this done for you.
00:07:33Yeah, I know.
00:07:34My priorities are just to look after you as best I can and try and get you through as
00:07:37best I can, OK?
00:07:38There's always a way, if we just put our heads together and our minds to it and work together,
00:07:42we're going to get stuff done.
00:07:46Look, yeah, look, we're behind.
00:07:48Look, yeah, look, we're behind.
00:07:49There's no other way to describe it.
00:07:52We are a small team and we're working to a semi-limited budget, so we're doing the very
00:07:59best we can, but I'm not going to give up.
00:08:02I'm not going to give up on Brad and Kylie.
00:08:04We're just going to do our best to get it done, so...
00:08:06So we've got 890 kilos of steel edging we've got to put somewhere.
00:08:10Yeah.
00:08:11I'll tell you what, if you can just...
00:08:12I'll get Longy up here.
00:08:13If you can work with him on getting a spot, I'll get it in here.
00:08:16All right, do that.
00:08:17Let's get through today.
00:08:18Come on.
00:08:22Clay sort of said that, no, like, no matter what...
00:08:26He wanted to finish it.
00:08:27I'm backing you guys, like, I'm going to make sure that you have a garden to finish, like,
00:08:32I'm not leaving it like this, but definitely getting worried about running behind or even
00:08:38getting it done.
00:08:40Over in House 5, it's the biggest backyard on the block, coming in at 552 square metres.
00:08:46Christian and Mimi's yard features a pool, surrounded by a timber deck and a separate
00:08:51dining area, with a drinks bar.
00:08:53Then there'll be a curvy path leading to the other side of the house, where they're putting
00:08:58a basketball court, a fire pit and a seating area.
00:09:02Today, we need to finish our garden.
00:09:05Today, we need to finish off the garden lights.
00:09:08We've got lawn coming.
00:09:10We've got more soil.
00:09:12We've got mulching.
00:09:15The swimming pool needs to be grouted and clean and filled.
00:09:19We've got fences going in.
00:09:21We've got to clean.
00:09:23We've got to style.
00:09:25There's so much work to do.
00:09:27And where were you on Saturday, Mimi?
00:09:30And where were you on Saturday, Mimi?
00:09:35I had an event that I went to.
00:09:46He just tours and he just plays Disney and Nickelodeon music.
00:09:52And I was losing my mind.
00:09:55I'm trying.
00:10:00Beautiful.
00:10:07But you raced back to the block.
00:10:08You were there for pre-start?
00:10:09I was not there for pre-start.
00:10:10I came at midday.
00:10:12Okay.
00:10:28Best night ever.
00:10:32Good afternoon.
00:10:35I told you to be home before midnight.
00:10:38It's not midnight.
00:10:40It's not me.
00:10:41Well, turn into a pumpkin.
00:10:42But at least she did something productive after.
00:10:47Ah!
00:10:50Mimi, Mimi!
00:10:51Mimi!
00:10:52Mimi!
00:10:54Coming up, Dan and Simo uncover a huge problem in House 1.
00:10:58Where did you get this stuff from?
00:11:00It's banned product.
00:11:01It's no longer produced, manufactured, shipped in to Australia.
00:11:05So I don't even know how the girls got it here.
00:11:07If you present a room without a bench top,
00:11:09you've taken yourself out of the running to win.
00:11:22It's Saturday afternoon of Backyard Week
00:11:24and our blockheads are busy tackling some of the largest spaces
00:11:27we've seen this season.
00:11:30And amongst the mayhem, the modular walls are going up.
00:11:33The divide.
00:11:35The divide of House 3 and 4.
00:11:37And the pool cleaners are going in.
00:11:39What's up, mate?
00:11:40Dan.
00:11:44Is this the robot we're talking about?
00:11:45Yeah, this is the one.
00:11:46Mate, explain to me.
00:11:47Obviously, it cleans pools, but what's so special about it?
00:11:49It's got a double filtration system.
00:11:52It cleans the walls, the floors and the tile line.
00:11:55Comes up all the way.
00:11:56That's pretty impressive.
00:11:57That's it.
00:11:58And it won't clean twice.
00:11:59It's got smart navigation in it.
00:12:00So it knows where it's going in the pool.
00:12:02Yep, that's right.
00:12:03Mate, that's amazing.
00:12:05Meanwhile, in House 4, the finish line is still nowhere in sight.
00:12:09Absolute pig store.
00:12:13We need to get this done.
00:12:15It's not going to get done.
00:12:16And even if we do, it's going to look like s***.
00:12:20It's not going to get done.
00:12:22And even if we do, it's going to look like s***.
00:12:25But there's one trade who's heard their struggles
00:12:28and he's on his way to offer a hand.
00:12:30Clay.
00:12:31Yep.
00:12:32How are you?
00:12:33Good to see you.
00:12:34How are you, mate?
00:12:35Good, mate.
00:12:36How are you travelling?
00:12:37Miles behind where the other dogs, mate.
00:12:38Yeah, no, it's all right.
00:12:39What have you still got to do?
00:12:40Oh, look, we've got to mount the soil to come in.
00:12:41I've got all my steel edging here ready to go.
00:12:43We've got the plants.
00:12:44Really, just half of this is, well, three-quarter of it is lawn.
00:12:47Well, we've just got to finish off some lawn.
00:12:50I can come down and help you move some soil in here.
00:12:52Oh, really?
00:12:53Yeah, I'll give you a chop.
00:12:54Bloody hell, man.
00:12:55Well, just tell me what I can do in return.
00:12:56Yeah, so as soon as that soil comes here,
00:12:59just give us a call.
00:13:00We'll come down with half a dozen barrows.
00:13:02Bloody hell.
00:13:03Start burrowing it in for you.
00:13:04Serious?
00:13:05Yeah, absolutely.
00:13:06I don't even know what to say.
00:13:07Mate, we want everyone to finish.
00:13:08Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:13:09It's full on, you know what I mean?
00:13:10Like, it kicks you in the guts, mate.
00:13:13They're a long, long, long way away.
00:13:15So, yeah, of course, if we can help, of course we're going to help.
00:13:19Being a new trade on the block is no joke.
00:13:23And to be a new trade in landscaping is...
00:13:28I can understand, like, it'd be so overwhelming
00:13:30because you have a plan, but things don't go to plan.
00:13:34And you're also trying to do, like, a month's job in one week.
00:13:39They're going to help us.
00:13:41We're going to come and help you.
00:13:42Yeah, we'll just come and help you move all your soil in
00:13:44and we'll get all your turf laid for you.
00:13:47He's miles off and he's flat as a tack.
00:13:51Your turf's here, so we'll get it in.
00:13:54If we can help out, you know, if it's an hour, two hours, three hours,
00:13:56we'll just come and get it done for you.
00:13:58Thanks, Troy.
00:13:59Thanks, Troy.
00:14:00Really appreciate it.
00:14:02Troy's heard the struggles with Clay
00:14:05and we need to catch up from all of the little hiccups along the way, I guess.
00:14:11The minute Soilworks come and dropped off all our topsoil,
00:14:14what him and four other boys were down there wheelbarrowing it in.
00:14:18Where do you want it?
00:14:19Just here, mate.
00:14:20Just in this block, please.
00:14:21Thanks.
00:14:22Thanks, boys.
00:14:23Because he has done the block a few times now,
00:14:26he just got in there and was even just like to Clay,
00:14:28you're doing this, you're doing that, you're doing that.
00:14:31Brad and I were in there getting advice about what we need to be doing
00:14:34because we don't landscape.
00:14:36So all of us doing that, it was probably done in less than, like, two hours.
00:14:44It just kind of turned around.
00:14:46Excellent.
00:14:47Massive help.
00:14:51I'm going to let you finish off on the other rope.
00:14:53You've done amazing and full credit to you for today
00:14:57and how you've gone so far.
00:14:59No, all good, mate. Thank you.
00:15:01Massive effort by Troy from the other day.
00:15:04Like, he didn't have to do that.
00:15:08He could have just, you know, he's finished, he's got a good team.
00:15:11You know, he's got a big team.
00:15:12He could have just left it as it is,
00:15:14but just came down and gave us a massive chop out
00:15:16and credit where credit's due.
00:15:19Good bloke.
00:15:20If anyone lives in the western suburbs,
00:15:22I'd definitely get him his goody **** together.
00:15:31I picked up these pieces of stone
00:15:33because we got a quote, like, at the beginning of the week
00:15:37and it was, like, six grand.
00:15:40I had to, like, go searching
00:15:42and I got a Caesar stone, like, outdoor stone thingy
00:15:47for, like, literally, like, one-fifth of the price.
00:15:50So, yeah, this should be fun.
00:15:53I assume that we need to secure the bottom
00:15:55before we secure the joint, you know?
00:15:58So we're in the process of installing it.
00:16:03And Dan and Simo came over.
00:16:05Oh, no.
00:16:06Here we go.
00:16:07You're in trouble.
00:16:08And that's when I was like, oh, crap.
00:16:12They looked at the stone.
00:16:14What's wrong with it?
00:16:15I don't know.
00:16:16You're about to find out.
00:16:18It's just going in now.
00:16:21It's a major problem.
00:16:22What's the problem?
00:16:24Caesar stone.
00:16:25Where'd you get this stuff from?
00:16:26Um...
00:16:28It's banned product.
00:16:29Banned product.
00:16:32It's a banned product.
00:16:33Yeah.
00:16:34Even though we haven't cut it on sight or anything?
00:16:36Yeah, it's still a banned product.
00:16:37Really?
00:16:38Is all stone banned?
00:16:39All Caesar stone's banned.
00:16:41Any product with silica in it has been banned
00:16:43with a high percentage,
00:16:44and this bench top has, like, 70% of it in there.
00:16:48So it's no longer produced, manufactured,
00:16:51shipped in to Australia.
00:16:53So I don't even know how the girls got it here, surprisingly.
00:16:56Well, it's the end of it.
00:16:57They got it cheap.
00:17:03So we're going to have to get rid of it.
00:17:04Can we, like, just leave it for the moment?
00:17:06What's that?
00:17:07Can we just leave it for the moment?
00:17:08No.
00:17:09Can't be a deal.
00:17:10No, it's got to go.
00:17:11Sorry, guys.
00:17:13Dang it.
00:17:15It's, like, 5.30 now on a Saturday,
00:17:18and we have no backup.
00:17:20Essentially, if you present a room without a bench top,
00:17:23you're taking yourself out of the running to win.
00:17:27Dang it.
00:17:28Have you got any spare tiles?
00:17:31Yeah.
00:17:32Curious you guys are just leaving,
00:17:34whether you want to twist their arm.
00:17:38Get some Skylon down and tile it.
00:17:39Yeah, and tile it.
00:17:41Can we give them a few more hours for tools?
00:17:44An hour or so?
00:17:45Yeah, I'll give you another hour or so.
00:17:46Yeah, OK. See you, brother.
00:17:47It was tools down at 5 o'clock.
00:17:48We're going to give them till 6, 6.30.
00:17:51Hopefully they can get it solved.
00:17:53I don't know.
00:17:56Hello.
00:17:57Hello, hello.
00:17:58It's Charlotte from house one of the block.
00:17:59How are you going?
00:18:00Good. How are you doing?
00:18:01Um, not so good.
00:18:02Are you still here?
00:18:03We're just driving out of the car park.
00:18:05Oh.
00:18:06Do you want to do me?
00:18:07Well, we just put in our Caesarstone bench top
00:18:09and we got told that we're not allowed to put in Caesarstone.
00:18:14Now what?
00:18:15Now our only other option is to tile.
00:18:18OK.
00:18:19All right, let's come back and have a look
00:18:21to see if there's something we can do.
00:18:23OK, amazing. Thanks so much.
00:18:25So hopefully we can come up with some sort of pattern
00:18:28with leftover tiles.
00:18:30All right, so it's all this.
00:18:34What's going in these openings?
00:18:36Barbecue and sink.
00:18:38Oh, wow.
00:18:42But the problem with tiling is that you need a substrate
00:18:45to obviously lay tiles on.
00:18:47And that's something we didn't have.
00:18:53I just don't have that material to do the substrate properly.
00:18:56That's my problem.
00:18:57That's my problem.
00:18:58We're going to spend money now doing it all
00:19:00and then rip it all out and do it again.
00:19:03And time, like what have we got, till seven?
00:19:05Yeah, to make noise.
00:19:08I don't think it's worth it.
00:19:10What are you going to do?
00:19:11You have no beef.
00:19:12Well, I'll just have to get it marked down
00:19:14and do it properly for the sale of the house.
00:19:17So my thing would be...
00:19:18OK.
00:19:19First you can quickly cut ply on there
00:19:21and you can just drop the barbecue in there
00:19:23so it looks like what it is.
00:19:25Like unfinished, I know.
00:19:27Or you just leave it how it is.
00:19:28There's no chance of winning.
00:19:29There's no... Yeah.
00:19:30So there's no chance of winning then.
00:19:31So you're going to do all this for 10 grand.
00:19:33You're going to pay for these guys to help and everyone else.
00:19:36Or at least finish everything else,
00:19:38because Ryan's pushing it,
00:19:39so you get another two boys helping him.
00:19:41So I'm like, I'll be blunt, you're not going to do it.
00:19:43He's being honest, yeah, that's it.
00:19:44Seriously.
00:19:45You're going to waste your time.
00:19:46Let's do it properly.
00:19:48This makes me so sad.
00:19:50The plan is to put V-groove down instead
00:19:53and paint it and just prepare everything else.
00:19:57Just keep going along, not waste too much time on it.
00:20:02It sucks because you just completely take yourself out of winning.
00:20:08And the boys have put so much hard work in
00:20:11and you want to do everyone proud and it just sucks.
00:20:17I can't afford this mistake.
00:20:19We're going to have to replace it anyway and I just can't afford it.
00:20:24And I drove four hours today to get that
00:20:27and everyone else has put so much hard work in
00:20:29and just to not deliver something finished just sucks.
00:20:34I'm just sad for everyone who's put so much work into this.
00:20:40Yeah.
00:20:47You've been working all your life.
00:20:56How was your night?
00:20:57Long and tiring.
00:20:59And wet.
00:21:00Did you get any sleep at all?
00:21:02I got an hour.
00:21:03We both got an hour each, we tab-teamed.
00:21:05The stone was a disaster but we got a temporary feeling.
00:21:09For something that's not meant to be a bench top,
00:21:12I reckon it looks quite nice.
00:21:16Yeah.
00:21:25What have you got left to do this morning?
00:21:29Get everything out.
00:21:33How are you feeling this morning?
00:21:35Deflated.
00:21:36It's like our third or fourth space now in a row
00:21:39that we haven't completely finished.
00:21:41I'd like to be further along but we are where we are.
00:21:45Garden lighting's not done.
00:21:46I would have liked to have done a bit more with the sides of the deck.
00:21:50You can only expect to do so much on such a big day.
00:21:58In my eyes, we've not even made it a quarter of the way.
00:22:04We pulled the pin at around 2, 3 o'clock, I think,
00:22:07and got a few hours sleep and got up in the morning
00:22:10and finished everything off.
00:22:12What was left to do?
00:22:13Plant the rest of the plants that we couldn't see.
00:22:16If it was one plant, how did you go in?
00:22:19Ah, we'll win now, that's for sure.
00:22:22We're one tree short.
00:22:25We'll win.
00:22:26We'll win.
00:22:27We'll win.
00:22:28We'll win.
00:22:29We'll win.
00:22:30We'll win.
00:22:31One tree short.
00:22:33We're happy with the space, considering that we just landscaped,
00:22:37I don't know, like 300 squares of area
00:22:40and we don't even own a shovel or a rake.
00:22:49Do you feel like you can't finish anything
00:22:52without having a little argument?
00:22:54Oh, for sure.
00:22:57Wouldn't you take the plastic off after I gurney?
00:23:00I'm f***ing spraying mud and you pull them off.
00:23:03I asked you, I said I'm going to take them off.
00:23:06F*** you.
00:23:08It wouldn't be a room reveal without arguing at least five times.
00:23:12Courtney, get the f*** off the pavement.
00:23:15Shut up!
00:23:17I love her so much, but yes, we argue
00:23:20and she frustrates the absolute hell out of me.
00:23:23We mainly have to clean.
00:23:26I think we're just running on pure adrenaline.
00:23:54F***!
00:24:07F***!
00:24:13You don't want a brick at the bottom of your pool.
00:24:24We were still digging holes and mulching
00:24:28when it came to tools down.
00:24:35Tools down!
00:24:37Crazy!
00:24:42You did it.
00:24:44Give me a hug, you smelly little man.
00:24:50Oh, it's so cold!
00:24:52Oh, that's cold!
00:24:54It was actually like four degrees in here.
00:25:18Oh, g'day.
00:25:20Hello, hello.
00:25:22Everyone's quiet.
00:25:24Scotty.
00:25:26Hello, hello.
00:25:28You tired?
00:25:30We're a bit sore, mate.
00:25:31You a bit quiet?
00:25:32Body's hurting.
00:25:34I tell you what, I reckon you all delivered the best holiday home backyards ever.
00:25:38The best on Phillip Island, I reckon.
00:25:41Well done.
00:25:43This week, you will be judged out of 40
00:25:46because our resident landscaping expert, Dave Franklin,
00:25:49judged alongside our regular judging panel.
00:26:17Tonight is the last chance for you to take home 10,000 bucks from Ford.
00:26:23And won't that be a bonus come your final landscaping week,
00:26:27front facade, because the team that wins front facade week
00:26:30is going to take home for their personal driving pleasure
00:26:34the Ford Mustang Mark E.
00:26:38You're right.
00:26:39What?
00:26:40That's right.
00:26:41So that means it's even more important to win tonight
00:26:45and put that money towards this.
00:26:48You ready to go?
00:26:49Yeah.
00:26:50Absolutely.
00:26:51Maddie and Charlotte.
00:26:54Oh, I'd say this week was a bit of a Debbie Downer, Soz.
00:27:00House one has the third biggest backyard with 448 square metres.
00:27:05We pulled out our front facade,
00:27:09We pulled our High Pages lever.
00:27:16We need $10,000 from High Pages.
00:27:19We need all the hands on deck we can get.
00:27:21It was so great having High Pages helping us
00:27:24because I'm not sure we'd be able to do it without them.
00:27:29My personal style is more coastal, relaxed, a little bit rustic.
00:27:34That's nice.
00:27:35These are perfect and big.
00:27:37I want that one.
00:27:38You've got the yarn for it, definitely.
00:27:42All right, so we've got a range of decking boards here.
00:27:44We've obviously got our wider and narrow boards
00:27:46and a bunch of different species.
00:27:47We've got your spotted gum, your blackbark.
00:27:49My house is super coastal and chill, so lighter is my vibe.
00:27:57So with our High Pages lever, we also got $5,000
00:28:00to put towards a special item or object,
00:28:03which we decided obviously would be our spiral staircase.
00:28:07They are finally going in.
00:28:10Yeah, it was perfect.
00:28:23I just love how versatile the space is.
00:28:26I love that we have the kids zone.
00:28:28I love that we have the external access.
00:28:30I love that we have a pool area, pizza oven, a fire pit.
00:28:34It's not just, like, one big space.
00:28:37It's, like, just heaps of, just, like, cool pockets.
00:28:42The first thing our judges noticed was the impressive size.
00:28:46Oh, my God!
00:28:51Jeez, look how big this is.
00:28:54Massive, isn't it? It's huge.
00:28:56Dave! Welcome to Baby Garden Week.
00:28:59Native to Australian backyards...
00:29:01Oh, that's right. ..is Dave Franklin.
00:29:03I don't know about that, but thanks for having me.
00:29:05Someone that can actually pronounce the plants that have been installed.
00:29:08Well, a couple of plants, anyway. We'll see how I go today.
00:29:12The fact that they've already got all these existing paperbark trees,
00:29:16it just already provides a landscape for them.
00:29:19So we've got tea tree here, we've got willy-pilly,
00:29:21we've got the bletchins there.
00:29:23So we've got a very coastal palette of trees here
00:29:25and we have a lot of lawn as well.
00:29:27And we don't get to see this a lot on the block.
00:29:29This is a really heavy-hitting, big swing of a backyard.
00:29:35It's week 11 on the block
00:29:37and Dave Franklin, we're seeing both speed and budget
00:29:41in the barbecue and surrounds.
00:29:43You had a bit of an issue at the bench top, didn't you?
00:29:45Yeah. Yeah.
00:29:46Well, let's face it, it's not doing like a barbecue.
00:29:48It's not quick. This is quick.
00:29:51But it looks good.
00:29:54I love how they've kept it really simple in their application here.
00:29:59They can just change it when it gets a bit rough
00:30:01because there's exterior panelling, simplicity.
00:30:05It looks incredible.
00:30:06It ties in beautifully with the exterior of the building
00:30:08and it looks good.
00:30:11Marty Fox knows how to throw a party
00:30:14and for him, what you've delivered is clearly an entertainer's dream.
00:30:19Having this element of being undercover makes it so useful.
00:30:23This is all afternoon sun.
00:30:27So in terms of the position on the block,
00:30:29being on this side of the resort means that in those afternoons
00:30:32when you're having those barbecues with family,
00:30:35you've got that beautiful light coming through.
00:30:37This is a real entertainer's dream, being on this side of the block.
00:30:41Look at this.
00:30:42Sonos here.
00:30:43I actually just saw another one under here.
00:30:45So...
00:30:46Marty, how?
00:30:50As they moved out onto the lawn today,
00:30:52Shona liked the way the design of your zones throughout the garden
00:30:56utilises so many curves.
00:30:59We've got this beautiful rounded curve at the end of the deck.
00:31:02We've got a little curve around the pizza oven
00:31:05and we've got rounded stepping stones.
00:31:07We've got a curved seat and it undulates and goes round
00:31:11and it snakes in and out in the garden beds
00:31:13rather than being just a straight edge.
00:31:15Marty also could see a lot of thought had gone into
00:31:18the choice of plants too.
00:31:20They've created privacy through seeing how these plants
00:31:23will grow over time.
00:31:24So with that main wing at the back,
00:31:26having that row of ficus hillii to just create that natural fence.
00:31:30It's one tree that I know very well.
00:31:33I can tell.
00:31:34Please get it right.
00:31:36It's lily-pilly.
00:31:38It's not ficus, mate.
00:31:41I was so confident that that was a ficus hillii.
00:31:44Hey, not far off.
00:31:46Just stick to real estate, mate.
00:31:48Absolutely.
00:31:49Anyway, that is so good for buyers
00:31:51because you're not creating segregation.
00:31:53You'll have these elements of privacy
00:31:55even though it's one big open space, which I really like.
00:31:58The judges then found yet another seating area
00:32:01off the main bedroom
00:32:03where you already set the scene for wine.
00:32:06Oh, my goodness.
00:32:08Oh, my goodness.
00:32:09Can you imagine just sitting here?
00:32:12In your main bedroom suite.
00:32:14Big slab there.
00:32:15Cup of tea in the morning.
00:32:17What an oasis.
00:32:18It's beautiful.
00:32:20Shona said the workmanship throughout this landscape
00:32:23is phenomenal for a week.
00:32:25We haven't even seen the pool.
00:32:27No.
00:32:28Like, come on.
00:32:29And the pool is all the way up there.
00:32:38Up under the pool deck.
00:32:40That stone is beautiful.
00:32:42Yeah.
00:32:43Darren thinks it's very well finished off.
00:32:45The timber matches that stone really beautifully.
00:32:48It's a nice big plunge pool.
00:32:51They've got a nice big daybed here.
00:32:53It's lovely up here,
00:32:54and it's really quite lovely to be elevated
00:32:56with all the canopy of the treetops.
00:32:58This is the biggest play area.
00:33:00Can we have a look at that?
00:33:07You've got a basketball court.
00:33:09You're kidding me.
00:33:10This is insane.
00:33:12You've got a little socket.
00:33:14Look at this.
00:33:17Then Marty found the spiral staircase.
00:33:19From a marketing perspective,
00:33:21as we've spoken about this being something
00:33:24that could be leased out independently of the house,
00:33:27I mean, this is insane.
00:33:28So, outdoor kitchen, outdoor lounge,
00:33:31fire pit area, main wing retreat,
00:33:34and a kids' basketball court with a swimming pool.
00:33:37How do you actually do all of that
00:33:39within one week to this standard?
00:33:41We were here last week.
00:33:43This was mud.
00:33:45Shana takes her hat off to you both
00:33:48and to your entire team.
00:33:50The girls came in halfway through.
00:33:52They've got this incredible build team
00:33:54and landscaping team.
00:33:56The way they must have all worked together
00:33:59to produce this is a machine.
00:34:03This is three backyards in one.
00:34:05Design, planning, finish, amenity,
00:34:09tick, tick, tick, tick, tick.
00:34:12That's it.
00:34:13Maddie and Charlotte.
00:34:17We feel good.
00:34:18We're very happy that we got such positive feedback.
00:34:21We're so happy for our landscaping team
00:34:23and our carpentry team.
00:34:25They smashed it this week.
00:34:27They did such a good job.
00:34:28We're just bummed that our stone didn't work.
00:34:34MUSIC
00:34:37OK, house two, Courtney and Grumpy.
00:34:43This week was moist.
00:34:45This week was wet and wild.
00:34:46LAUGHTER
00:34:50Yeah, I've loved landscape week.
00:34:52I've worked in landscaping for the last few years.
00:34:54I did it a lot when I was younger as well.
00:34:56Always enjoyed being out in the garden.
00:34:58House two has the second smallest backyard,
00:35:01coming in at 403 square metres.
00:35:03It's an entertainer's yard.
00:35:04It's really cool.
00:35:07The boys are just pouring the seat now.
00:35:09It's a bit of a risk
00:35:10because they're going to be forced to go outside at seven.
00:35:13So if the seat doesn't sort of set in time
00:35:15and they can't pull it off, we're not...
00:35:18But the seat won't be what we thought it was.
00:35:23Looks nice.
00:35:26I'm excited that you've chosen one of our ovens, Courtney.
00:35:28It's fantastic.
00:35:29This works perfectly with our house
00:35:31because we've got a lot of the curves.
00:35:33It's like a modern Mediterranean house.
00:35:35Beautiful.
00:35:36Yeah, I was like, we have to have it.
00:35:39We've got an out-of-ground plungy ball
00:35:41where we are doing a travertine checkerboard tile.
00:35:44So we've got the imperial tilers again
00:35:46and we know they'll smash it.
00:35:48They kill it every time they're here.
00:35:53Today I am shopping for some outdoor furniture from Freedom.
00:35:56I've actually seen a really nice lounge package in store
00:36:00which is called the Sonata sofa package.
00:36:03It's actually really cool.
00:36:04It goes with that Mediterranean feel.
00:36:09I hope the judges take away the fact
00:36:11that we married the indoors with the outdoors.
00:36:16We managed to fit five separate entertaining areas.
00:36:19They're between the fire pit, dining table,
00:36:22lounge setting on the main deck.
00:36:24We've got the deck seating.
00:36:26And then we've got the master bedroom,
00:36:28sort of two suites there.
00:36:30And then we still have a huge amount of grass
00:36:32for kids to run around and play and kick a ball and do whatever.
00:36:36So I hope they take that away from it.
00:36:38We've tried to make every space as user-friendly as possible.
00:36:41It was drizzling rain when our judges walked into your backyard
00:36:45but that took away none of the impact.
00:36:48Wow.
00:36:54Oh, my God.
00:36:56Wow.
00:37:03I literally thought House One had hit it out of the ballpark
00:37:08and I think we've got a contender.
00:37:10How cool is this?
00:37:11First of all, barbecue of dreams.
00:37:14This is an outdoor kitchen.
00:37:16I'm looking at House One going,
00:37:17oh, no, they didn't do that.
00:37:19That is phenomenal.
00:37:22That is sexy.
00:37:24I want it.
00:37:26Oh, they've even stalled inside the drawers.
00:37:29They've installed quite a bit.
00:37:31Oh, look at this.
00:37:32Get out of town.
00:37:33Seriously.
00:37:37Dave Franklin said,
00:37:38what is better than having olive trees, lemon trees
00:37:41and even your bay leaf trees as well?
00:37:43Everything that you need to cook for the barbecue
00:37:45is right here, right in front of you.
00:37:47Marty thinks this outdoor space is the hook for your campaign.
00:37:52This indoor-outdoor flow, this is what people pay for.
00:37:55This is what gets them emotionally connected to a property,
00:37:58envisaging themselves with all their family and friends
00:38:01feeling at home.
00:38:02To me, they've always known how to sell the dream.
00:38:05They then moved on to the lounge area
00:38:07and found some really beautiful
00:38:09and very comfortable Freedom furniture.
00:38:11But Marty wasn't entirely convinced about the eight posts.
00:38:16For me, this looks unfinished, this little walkway area,
00:38:19which is the journey from lounge to pool.
00:38:22Why is it unfinished?
00:38:23Well, I just would have thought that having slats
00:38:25over these eight posts with a beautiful vine creeping over it
00:38:29and hanging down would have created that outdoor tunnel.
00:38:32Like an arbour.
00:38:33Yeah, like a beautiful arbour.
00:38:34For me, this is the only thing that I'm questioning
00:38:37of feeling a little bit unfinished.
00:38:41Dave Franklin disagrees.
00:38:43Marty, this is garden art, so there's nothing wrong
00:38:47with having poles with vines growing up.
00:38:50I can see what you're saying with the arbour,
00:38:52but my thing would be that if you put the arbour over this,
00:38:55when it drops down the vines, you're not seeing the pool
00:38:57and you're not seeing the kids' area.
00:38:59I'm with Dave on that one.
00:39:00The judges then headed down to your pool area
00:39:03to check out your plungy pool.
00:39:06I love how they've used the posts as part of the pool fence.
00:39:10Stunning.
00:39:11It's just gorgeous.
00:39:13Oh, and it's so much bigger.
00:39:15House 1, obviously, that was a pool that would serve
00:39:18two to three people max.
00:39:20We could have six, seven people sitting here,
00:39:23having a wine in the pool, conversing with people on the grass.
00:39:29This is a different, entertaining feel, isn't it?
00:39:32Also, above your head...
00:39:34Shower.
00:39:35That's awesome.
00:39:37And the compliments kept coming from our judges.
00:39:40There's a whole new area around there.
00:39:42That's a true private, private zone, isn't it?
00:39:45It's stunning.
00:39:47The judges all love the outdoor fire outbox.
00:39:50Where did you get that from? I like that too.
00:39:52Shots, mate.
00:39:53Yeah, as soon as I saw it, I know I wanted it.
00:39:56It's pretty lucky we have that modular wall
00:39:59to separate these houses because you would be looking
00:40:02over the fences with envy.
00:40:04You'd be like, oh, man, I want what they've got.
00:40:07The judges completed their tour of your garden
00:40:10with yet another seating area around the fire pit.
00:40:15And on the way, they discovered a pizza oven and a smoker.
00:40:21Wow.
00:40:22So this is just value, value, value, value, value, and amenity.
00:40:26There's so many different functions,
00:40:29from entertaining to just sitting around,
00:40:32enjoying the fire pit, all the different cooking options.
00:40:35It actually has a lot of use.
00:40:38The curved seating and the paving around the fire pit
00:40:41has been executed perfectly, and the colour of it is divine.
00:40:45Look at the stone. It's gorgeous.
00:40:48Look at that. It looks like marble.
00:40:50So what is this, Dave? Wow.
00:40:52This looks like a limestone to me.
00:40:54It's stunning.
00:40:57There's so much time and money and planning
00:41:01that's gone into this space.
00:41:03It's miraculous that it's this good in this time frame.
00:41:07Like, mind-blowing.
00:41:09The connection that this house has
00:41:11for each one of these zones outside,
00:41:13to be able to be in the fire pit area,
00:41:15converse with people in the kitchen,
00:41:17see the kids in the pool,
00:41:19this is very unique for an outdoor space of this size, isn't it?
00:41:22This is 35, 40 metres of perfection.
00:41:25Dave agrees.
00:41:27The finishes throughout the entire garden
00:41:29are literally perfect.
00:41:32That is it.
00:41:34Thanks, guys. Thank you.
00:41:39Every garden room, they walked into
00:41:41everything that I wanted them to realise and see.
00:41:44They saw...
00:41:46I'm so happy for you because, I mean, you love landscaping,
00:41:49so, yeah, I'm just very glad that it all worked out
00:41:52and you got positive feedback.
00:41:54Yeah.
00:42:04OK, boys.
00:42:10This week was expensive.
00:42:14The body, the mind, the soul and the bank.
00:42:18We've got a gun team coming on.
00:42:20R&H Landscaping.
00:42:22This is going to be their first job, though,
00:42:24so when we say they're guns, they're novices
00:42:26and we're going to give them a chance
00:42:28and they're exceptionally good-looking.
00:42:30House 3 has the second biggest backyard
00:42:32for the size of 488 square metres.
00:42:35I'm not sure how we're going to finish.
00:42:39So I'm just on Freedom's website
00:42:41and I'm looking at furniture for our backyard.
00:42:43I'm thinking that we need some nice side tables
00:42:47and an umbrella for the pool area.
00:42:50Come out to Art Fusion, take a look at some sculptures.
00:42:53Oh, that just oozes Phillip Island to me.
00:42:56Look at that. It does, it does.
00:42:58I just love it.
00:43:00We both thought the same one, didn't we?
00:43:02Well, that's it.
00:43:04Ricky's finishing off the swing set this morning.
00:43:06Is that a swing set with old, recycled ironbark?
00:43:09Spotted gum. Spotted gum.
00:43:11Wow, you've done a great job, boys.
00:43:13Very hard to drill through, so I took a little bit to get it done.
00:43:15It's pretty heavy to lift, too.
00:43:17So this is how we originally designed it.
00:43:19It was centred with a pool.
00:43:21The nice mosaic tile piece that's 7.1 metres by 1.4.
00:43:2429,000 tiles.
00:43:26Printed in Italy and shipped over.
00:43:29Yeah, it's an epic piece.
00:43:38We hope they take away the sheer amount of land and space
00:43:41of turf that you've got,
00:43:43which we think a real backyard should have.
00:43:46The grass looks amazing.
00:43:48Deck looks fantastic.
00:43:50Plungy pool, the graphico, the custom bar.
00:43:52It's all come together really nicely.
00:43:54I think the judges will be impressed
00:43:56that not only did R&H Landscaping come in late to the game,
00:43:59but I reckon it was executed well.
00:44:03Walking in, Dave Franklin immediately said...
00:44:06This is a backyard.
00:44:08Wow.
00:44:10Where are we again?
00:44:12House 3.
00:44:15The trees coming from the top of the building
00:44:17all the way down to the fence line,
00:44:19and once these lily pillies grow,
00:44:21then you're going to just be hemmed in with green,
00:44:24with a green canopy above you.
00:44:26This is, like, super private,
00:44:28and that is a proper family backyard.
00:44:31They did not have a landscaper from memory.
00:44:34What?!
00:44:36They've done it themselves with Duncan.
00:44:38I saw him out there front last week,
00:44:40and he said to me, he goes,
00:44:42You know what, we're going to go for all the grass as much as we can.
00:44:45Have a garden that's fit for a family, really.
00:44:47Dave said this is not just grass.
00:44:50This is Lilydale turf,
00:44:52so they're the best in the business,
00:44:54and you can see how great this grass is here.
00:44:56And you know what, this is a buffalo grass here,
00:44:58so this is tough.
00:45:00You can do cricket, footy, whatever you like on this grass here.
00:45:02Marty thinks this is not a bad move
00:45:04from a real estate perspective.
00:45:06People can choose to envisage their kids, you know, running around,
00:45:10and if they want to add things later, they can.
00:45:13Shona had a look on her face.
00:45:16Here we go.
00:45:18Oh, no.
00:45:19She just wasn't feeling it the same way as the other judges.
00:45:22She wanted more.
00:45:23I've just come from two environments
00:45:26that had beautiful shapes to them,
00:45:28and they felt different.
00:45:31And it makes sense now that the guys did it.
00:45:33We'll do a straight line, we'll do some corten steel,
00:45:35and we'll chuck everything on the sides.
00:45:37That's sort of what it feels for me.
00:45:39I agree, it could do with some more layers, OK?
00:45:42But it might just sell the place
00:45:44because you can do whatever you like with this garden.
00:45:47Darren Palmer thinks if you were minimising the landscaping
00:45:50to concentrate on the carpentry,
00:45:52then you should have probably finished the deck.
00:45:57I can see the underside of the battens underneath this deck.
00:46:01I can see the pedestals.
00:46:03That's...
00:46:05If you're going to focus on one thing,
00:46:07the carpentry should have been great.
00:46:08But Shayna had to start apologising to you
00:46:11when she turned the corner.
00:46:16Oh, my God!
00:46:18Like, what on earth?
00:46:21I apologise.
00:46:23I apologise for what I said around the corner.
00:46:26This is insane!
00:46:29We've got swing set, we've got sculpture,
00:46:32we now have all the curves.
00:46:34That makes sense it's a football pitch.
00:46:36It makes sense.
00:46:37This is crazy.
00:46:39That's a very cool swing set, isn't it?
00:46:41That's like a 200 or 250 by 250 timber.
00:46:44There's no way that this is going to be shaking by the look of it.
00:46:47Mate, you can jump on that.
00:46:48As I say, a guy of my size could get on there, for sure.
00:46:51They also realised you delivered the largest pool area
00:46:54they had seen today.
00:46:56Big thumbs up to the amazing plungy pools.
00:46:59The biggest pool is a massive selling feature.
00:47:01It separates them from the others that we've seen.
00:47:04It is the fun house.
00:47:05Look, we've got beach balls, we've got lilos.
00:47:07The Grafico tiles are certainly an interesting addition.
00:47:10That Grafico is really on theme from inside the house
00:47:12with the wallpapers.
00:47:14They have that appeal of pulling in the palms and everything
00:47:17from outside, inside, and they've reflected that here as well.
00:47:20It's consistent with the inside of the house in that it's fun,
00:47:23it's planned really beautifully for holiday living.
00:47:26So I think it does what it's supposed to do
00:47:28just as well as the inside of the house does.
00:47:30It's not as chic, but it's fun.
00:47:35I think that's the thing.
00:47:36It ticks all the boxes of what a holiday house should be doing.
00:47:39Like, you know, the kids will come in and go,
00:47:41we can kick the footy, we can play cricket,
00:47:43we can go on the swings, we've got beautiful art,
00:47:46we've got the pool, you can access it straight off
00:47:48the living area from the hallway.
00:47:50It ticks so many great boxes.
00:47:53It just doesn't have the finesse and the finishings.
00:47:55If they had a professional landscaper,
00:47:57they would have sold the dream wall.
00:48:00That's it, boys.
00:48:01The Fun Factory is nearly complete.
00:48:03Thanks, mate.
00:48:06We're really happy with the space,
00:48:07but it's super hard to compete with guys
00:48:10that have been working on their yards
00:48:11for months and months and months.
00:48:13So I think R&H Landscaping could be in trouble.
00:48:26OK, house four, Colin Pratt.
00:48:29Here was me thinking that landscaping was going to be fun.
00:48:33House four has the smallest backyard,
00:48:35coming in at 378 square metres.
00:48:41Is anyone opposed to us putting a gate
00:48:43into the tennis court?
00:48:44It's right there.
00:48:46I think a lot of people were a bit shocked
00:48:48that I even suggested it.
00:48:50I have no problem with it.
00:48:52Yep.
00:48:54Go.
00:48:57Freedom was wonderful.
00:48:59This is outdoor?
00:49:00They're all outdoor.
00:49:01I think that Freedom have been like,
00:49:04we have a girl that loves black, we need more black.
00:49:07There were black cushions, black vases.
00:49:09I'm glad they've waited till week ten.
00:49:11Yeah.
00:49:14I don't know how it's going.
00:49:16I don't think good.
00:49:18Everyone seems very stressed, very frazzled.
00:49:21We were under the impression that all our plans were sorted
00:49:24and Collie spoke to a couple of them and said,
00:49:26yeah, look, Clay has spoken to us,
00:49:28but he hasn't actually placed the orders.
00:49:33Not that I've seen, no.
00:49:34No, we're ****ed.
00:49:39Our backyard goes from around the pool
00:49:42to the other end of the building.
00:49:45The whole plan has been really low maintenance
00:49:47for it to be like more of a holiday home.
00:49:50It would have been nice to have had the extra cash
00:49:53to have the bigger deck,
00:49:55but we are trying to spread it.
00:49:59Tough week, Kylie and Brad,
00:50:01so I can imagine how you're feeling this evening
00:50:04because you had a few dramas throughout the week, didn't you?
00:50:07Yeah.
00:50:08First impressions were great.
00:50:11That's a big pool.
00:50:12It's a great-sized pool.
00:50:14That's as big as the boys' pool, yeah?
00:50:16Yeah, it looks like it.
00:50:17It's a major selling point, isn't it,
00:50:19having this pool area off that living space,
00:50:22like right there.
00:50:23However, it's a bit of a wasted opportunity
00:50:27given that we've got a small area there
00:50:30and the rest of it's kind of...
00:50:32No offence, but it's just landscaping.
00:50:35I was going to say it just is giving me absolutely nothing.
00:50:40I've got a runway of a boardwalk through here
00:50:43and I've got another pathway on the side there.
00:50:45I've got all this wasted space around here as well at the same time.
00:50:48It might be a budget thing,
00:50:50but there's no real big trees here that can have a canopy over it,
00:50:54and this has got enough area around
00:50:56to put trees with canopies around the pool.
00:50:58And while he liked the darkness of the pool,
00:51:01he wasn't a fan of the tiles.
00:51:03I don't love fake tiles.
00:51:05That, to me, is killing every other stonemason in Australia,
00:51:09right now, looking at that, OK?
00:51:11Look, I'm sure it would look great elsewhere,
00:51:14but just on the pool here, it's just too strong a pattern for me.
00:51:17It really just feels like a bit of a water feature,
00:51:20even though it's such a big pool.
00:51:22I question the amount of decking, the amount of sitting,
00:51:25the amount of amenity that's in this space.
00:51:28You have lots of walkways,
00:51:30lots of different pipes and different materials,
00:51:33but not a lot of function, not a lot of enjoyable space.
00:51:37Basically increase the size of the deck,
00:51:42which I'm assuming you needed more money, more time, more labour.
00:51:45Definitely.
00:51:46So that was probably impossible.
00:51:49Leaving the pool area, it was clear to everyone
00:51:51that a lot of time and effort had gone into the fire pit seat,
00:51:55so well done on that.
00:51:57But they thought the ground around it is not executed as well as House 2.
00:52:03It needed some more pavers.
00:52:05Because you're not walking over here in bare feet, in the pool.
00:52:08No, no.
00:52:09So it's not that inviting.
00:52:11I think the idea there just hasn't been finished off properly.
00:52:14Remember two main bedroom suites right there.
00:52:16Those doors look out to here
00:52:18and they're going to look straight into the pool equipment,
00:52:21which I know there's probably a surround planned for that.
00:52:24Yeah.
00:52:25But we're not seeing it.
00:52:26What we're seeing is that you're going to see
00:52:28the pool equipment from the main bedroom.
00:52:30And we need to judge what we're seeing,
00:52:32and what we're seeing is just a really poorly planned,
00:52:35uninviting space.
00:52:38Clearly some time management issues around the rest of the garden too.
00:52:42More unfinished steps on the other side of the main bedroom.
00:52:46There's nothing about this that says,
00:52:49come and hang in my backyard.
00:52:51Look how excited we got in House 1 and 2
00:52:53about all those different spaces to sit and talk and eat
00:52:56and share memories and all those amazing aspects
00:52:59of having a holiday home.
00:53:00Yeah.
00:53:01And then you walk into this house and they've just thought,
00:53:03you know what, let's not think of emotion,
00:53:05let's not think of marketing, let's not think of the buyer,
00:53:08because that's how it feels.
00:53:09They've just plonked things in without any consideration
00:53:12as to what people throw their hands up for come auction day.
00:53:18You know what, this house is still amazing.
00:53:20It wouldn't put me off buying this house.
00:53:22I think there's some stuff I want to do and change and fix,
00:53:26but it wouldn't put me off.
00:53:28It's a beautiful looking house from the outside.
00:53:30It actually has one of the two biggest pools on the block.
00:53:34It has lots of room around it,
00:53:36and it's got access to the tennis court.
00:53:38I think it's still going to be really appealing.
00:53:42It's not as lifestyle-focused as 1 and 2.
00:53:45It's not as fun as 3, but it's still a bloody great house.
00:53:48That's it, Carly.
00:53:49I've read some tough comments there,
00:53:51some strong positives.
00:53:52Also, only one week to go.
00:53:55Thanks, Scotty.
00:53:59Yeah, it was a tough week.
00:54:02And yeah, there's definitely some things
00:54:04that we would have liked to have had finished,
00:54:06but I think there should have been
00:54:08maybe some earlier conversations about
00:54:10that it was not going to be able to be achieved.
00:54:15It is what it is.
00:54:18Yeah.
00:54:30OK, House 5.
00:54:32Christian and Mimi.
00:54:37This week was organised chaos.
00:54:42House 5 has the largest backyard
00:54:44and a whopping 552 square metres.
00:54:49I am off to Cambridge.
00:54:51Oh, my goodness.
00:54:55I definitely like grey.
00:54:57Yep.
00:54:58And the blue.
00:54:59Well, everything.
00:55:01I'm doing the landscaping for House 5.
00:55:04I need to get lots of things.
00:55:05Can I get eight of those, please?
00:55:07Four of those lounges.
00:55:08Two of those, two of those, and one of those.
00:55:12I just love spending other people's money.
00:55:16How big's this? What's this like?
00:55:18Nine by six.
00:55:19They're very popular, these basketball courts.
00:55:22The kids still want to be able to shoot properly
00:55:24from a foul line and a three-point line.
00:55:26Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:55:27So anything underneath that, they don't really like it.
00:55:30So I'm here today to show you
00:55:32about the Legrand automation switches.
00:55:34The fun side of it, you can create like a party scene.
00:55:37You can use the app on the phone,
00:55:39and the lights that you want to come on will come on,
00:55:41the music that you want to come on will come on.
00:55:43Oh, that's awesome.
00:55:45So we've organised your automation.
00:55:47Yep.
00:55:48You can just go onto the app and press that button,
00:55:50and it will work for you.
00:55:51Okay.
00:55:53Oh!
00:55:55How good's that?
00:55:57Oh!
00:55:58Changes colour.
00:56:07I absolutely love what we see in our backyard.
00:56:10I think you can picture kids running around the pool,
00:56:13like having a swim,
00:56:15parents sitting back, being able to watch them.
00:56:17I think it all ties in really well together.
00:56:23Walking into your backyard,
00:56:24the faces of the judges were shocked...
00:56:28..in a good way.
00:56:32Wow, that's dramatic.
00:56:34Look at the tiling.
00:56:36That is stunning.
00:56:37Wow.
00:56:38Another big pool.
00:56:40Yeah.
00:56:41And I love this mosaic tiling around it.
00:56:43As soon as you walk in, you're drawn to it.
00:56:46A dust screen resort.
00:56:48Even though it's just a small deck with two chairs,
00:56:50you've got all the grass around there
00:56:52that you could lay on as well
00:56:54and be part of the pool environment.
00:56:56I all love the piers wrapped in rope.
00:56:58It's very Phillip Island.
00:56:59Like, it makes you feel coastal.
00:57:01It's like they've picked up a piece of Phillip Island
00:57:04and they've put it here in the landscaping for us.
00:57:06That's really effective.
00:57:07Exactly.
00:57:08Shona thinks the colour palette is excellent
00:57:10and the furniture around the pool is superb.
00:57:13Camera-rich, I presume.
00:57:15Yes.
00:57:16You've got the blue stone, you've got the travertine,
00:57:18then you have this beautiful bluey gunmetal for the pool
00:57:21and then you have green,
00:57:22so there's a lot of different textures and colours.
00:57:25It's absolutely stunning.
00:57:27See, I was nervous for these guys
00:57:28because this is the only space that's not directly off the living,
00:57:32so this really has to be hit out of the ballpark.
00:57:34I think there's a whole other half over the other side
00:57:36and down here.
00:57:40This is quite beautiful.
00:57:45They've loved the boats
00:57:46and discovered it was full of rum.
00:57:49But isn't this cool?
00:57:50So they've obviously grabbed it from, you know, Facebook market share
00:57:53or hopefully somewhere local around here,
00:57:55cut this up, put this here as a bar.
00:57:58Lots of rum, so you feel like a pirate already.
00:58:01Yeah.
00:58:03But with that, with the Pee Wee Pals,
00:58:05it is coming back to Phillip Island.
00:58:07A really nice touch.
00:58:09Perfect for a holiday home.
00:58:12You were criticised heavily in the past few weeks
00:58:14for your layout and design
00:58:16to have a TV room leading onto this space.
00:58:21This has zero connection to lifestyle outside.
00:58:27Shouldn't this be a place that is pool-friendly?
00:58:30They could have done something interesting here
00:58:33with a tiled space that flowed out to the outdoors
00:58:36because of this big sliding door.
00:58:38It could have actually read as an indoor-outdoor alfresco space
00:58:41that continued onto the outdoors.
00:58:43And while this garden is amazing,
00:58:45and all the judges thought so,
00:58:47that came up again today.
00:58:49Did they get it wrong or did they get it right now?
00:58:52Looking at the space, Marty thinks the TV room
00:58:55needs a fridge, et cetera, to service the dining area.
00:58:58The big issue that the buyer will actually face when inspecting
00:59:01is they see a big dining table
00:59:03and they think to themselves,
00:59:05great, dinner parties or entertaining,
00:59:07but it is such a long walk from the kitchen
00:59:10that this is actually quite a difficult place
00:59:13to entertain people over dinner.
00:59:15Where's the barbie?
00:59:16There is no barbie here.
00:59:17That's a smoker.
00:59:18Did you win the Wolf Barbecue?
00:59:20Yes, we did.
00:59:21Where is the Wolf Barbecue going?
00:59:23On the balcony.
00:59:24On the balcony upstairs?
00:59:26Yes.
00:59:27This is where the Wolf Barbecue should have been, they said.
00:59:31This is backyard week on the block.
00:59:33You need to have a barbecue.
00:59:35Un-Australian.
00:59:36It is un-Australian.
00:59:38When you're playing in the pool and the kids,
00:59:41just to have a sausage on bread is one of the easiest things for them.
00:59:44You don't want to go running upstairs the whole time.
00:59:46If you're going to have a smoker here
00:59:48and you're going to have cold drinks and things like that,
00:59:51you need a fridge and you need a sink.
00:59:53So to really function as a dining space,
00:59:56you need to make more kitchenette amenities
00:59:59in the laundry or the TV room
01:00:01or an outdoor kitchen, like House 2's,
01:00:04right here in this space.
01:00:06Meandering down the path towards the basketball court.
01:00:11Oh, and another court.
01:00:13They found a bigger court than House 1
01:00:16with a three-point line.
01:00:19This is cool.
01:00:20So this is the block 2024 House 5.
01:00:23Yeah, this is cool.
01:00:24And the judges also found a fire pit with a dry stone wall.
01:00:28Dave's favourite fire pit area he's seen today.
01:00:31I love this.
01:00:32I think this is one of my favourite parts of the whole job here.
01:00:35It is that hard doing stuff like that.
01:00:38Darren thinks what this garden and this house delivers on
01:00:42is privacy.
01:00:43Look around.
01:00:44Look at what we're looking at.
01:00:46It's private.
01:00:47Exactly.
01:00:48We're seeing lots of trees and lots of sky.
01:00:50We don't have an immediate neighbour here,
01:00:52we don't have an immediate neighbour there.
01:00:54It's privacy.
01:00:55It's a cracker.
01:00:59This week the judges saw five backyards
01:01:01that are all bigger than most of the gardens
01:01:03ever delivered on the block.
01:01:06They think it's a real achievement for all of you,
01:01:09and I mean all of you today.
01:01:11The hardest thing is, is that we've got to pick a winner
01:01:14and it's really not that easy today.
01:01:16Not today.
01:01:17It really isn't.
01:01:18The standard, as much as we've been a bit negative on something,
01:01:21the standard is so damn high.
01:01:23Brilliant effort.
01:01:24Well done, everybody.
01:01:25Give yourselves all a round of applause.
01:01:27OK, let's get the scores.
01:01:36OK, here we go.
01:01:39I'm a bit nervous.
01:01:41Dave Frank first.
01:01:44Maddie and Charlotte.
01:01:45So we've got a very coastal palette of trees here
01:01:48and we have a lot of lawn as well.
01:01:52Courtney and Grumpy.
01:01:55This is garden art.
01:02:02Ricky and Hayden.
01:02:04Could do with some more layers,
01:02:05but it might just sell as a place
01:02:07because you can do whatever you like with this garden.
01:02:15Colin Bradd.
01:02:16I've got all this wasted space around here.
01:02:19I've got all this wasted space around here.
01:02:21I'm sorry, he's given me absolutely nothing.
01:02:28Christian and Mimi.
01:02:30As soon as you walk in, you're drawn to it.
01:02:33It does scream resort to me.
01:02:37Mixed results.
01:02:39Darren and Maddie.
01:02:41Double up.
01:02:42Darren first.
01:02:43Maddie and Charlotte.
01:02:45Design, planning, finish, amenity.
01:02:49Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick.
01:02:54Courtney and Grumpy.
01:02:55It's miraculous that it's this good in this time frame.
01:02:59Like, mind-blowing.
01:03:07Sorry, that was an overreaction.
01:03:09I love that reaction.
01:03:13Ricky and Hayden.
01:03:14It's consistent with the inside of the house.
01:03:16It's actually really appropriate for family living.
01:03:19It's not chic.
01:03:21It's fun.
01:03:25Colin Bradd.
01:03:27I question the amount of decking,
01:03:29the amount of sitting,
01:03:30the amount of amenity that's in this space.
01:03:37And Christian and Mimi.
01:03:39It's like they've picked up a piece of Phillip Island
01:03:41and they've put it here in the landscaping for us.
01:03:43That's really effective.
01:03:48Okay, Marty.
01:03:49Maddie and Charlotte.
01:03:51This is clearly an entertainer's dream.
01:03:59Courtney and Grumpy.
01:04:01This indoor-outdoor flow, this is what people pay for.
01:04:04This is what gets them emotionally connected to a property.
01:04:13Ricky and Hayden.
01:04:15That's the quintessential Aussie back garden.
01:04:23Colin Bradd.
01:04:24What we're seeing is just a really poorly planned,
01:04:27uninviting space.
01:04:35Christian and Mimi.
01:04:37Oh, look at the tiling.
01:04:39That is stunning.
01:04:44Okay, I'll see you in a bit.
01:04:46Shadow Blaze.
01:04:47Maddie and Charlotte.
01:04:51What an oasis.
01:04:52It's beautiful.
01:04:54Courtney and Grumps.
01:04:56They've always known how to sell the dream.
01:04:58Ricky and Hayden.
01:05:00It ticks so many boxes.
01:05:01It just doesn't have the finesse and the finishings.
01:05:04Colin Bradd.
01:05:06There's nothing about this that says,
01:05:08come and hang in my backyard.
01:05:10Come and hang in my backyard.
01:05:13And Christian and Mimi.
01:05:15The choice of materials is stunning.
01:05:17Okay, totals.
01:05:24Okay.
01:05:26The winner of week 11 on the Block Backyard Week
01:05:30and taking home $10,000 from Ford is...
01:05:33$10,000.
01:05:40It's Courtney and Grumpy.
01:05:42Holy...
01:05:44$10,000.
01:05:46$10,000.
01:05:47Good job, brother.
01:05:51I cannot believe it.
01:05:55It is a massive spring in my step now.
01:05:57We could totally end this competition happy,
01:05:59regardless of what happens at auction.
01:06:01We got our 10.
01:06:02We got two 10s.
01:06:03If we get a quarter of this feeling on auction night,
01:06:05it'll be great.
01:06:06Courtney and Grant scored a massive 39 out of 40
01:06:09with 10s from both Darren and Shayna.
01:06:12The girls came runner-up with 37 points,
01:06:14while Christian and Mimi took out third place with 35.
01:06:18Ricky and Hayden's solo landscaping efforts
01:06:20netted them fourth place with 32.
01:06:23And Colin and Bradd came at distant last with just 27 points.
01:06:28Congratulations.
01:06:30Congratulations, Courtney and Grumpy.
01:06:32You're not grumpy tonight, champ.
01:06:33No.
01:06:34No way.
01:06:35$10,000 from Ford and another $20,000 from Arnis for two 10s.
01:06:40$30,000 night.
01:06:41Well done.
01:06:42Thanks, buddy.
01:06:43Wow.
01:06:44Congratulations.
01:06:45And guess what?
01:06:46Tomorrow night, we're heading overseas.
01:06:50What?
01:06:52That's right.
01:06:54You're getting on the ferry down here.
01:06:56You're heading over to the Mornington Peninsula,
01:06:58and we're going to head out to the Flinders Hotel
01:07:01and have a fantastic night with some VIP guests,
01:07:03and I guarantee you'll have lots and lots of laughs.
01:07:06It's going to be a lot of fun.
01:07:08See you tomorrow night.
01:07:09Well done, everybody.
01:07:10It's been a tough week.
01:07:11Wet, cold.
01:07:12You did a great job.
01:07:13One week to go.
01:07:14See you later.
01:07:15Good night.
01:07:20Call your mum.
01:07:21Call your mum.
01:07:22Call your mum.
01:07:24We came first.
01:07:25We came first, Mum.
01:07:26We got two 10s and got $39,000 out of $40,000.
01:07:30We got $30,000.
01:07:32You got $30,000.
01:07:33We won $30,000 tonight.
01:07:35I'm very proud of both of you.
01:07:37Thanks, Mum.
01:07:38Very, very proud.
01:07:39Thanks, Mum.
01:07:41You guys going to get through this week together?
01:07:44I think this week's definitely going to test everything we've got.
01:07:49Coming up on the block, the end begins.
01:07:52And it's all coming to an end.
01:07:54I don't particularly like that.
01:07:56As our teams tackle their final space,
01:07:59front gardens and facades.
01:08:04This is so much to do.
01:08:05It's insane.
01:08:07This is it for the houses.
01:08:09This is it.
01:08:10That looks lush and expensive and inviting.
01:08:16And in just over a week's time, it's a block reunion.
01:08:20Come on out, troops!
01:08:22As our all-stars come together to help finish the clubhouse
01:08:26and give one of our teams a chance to get $50,000 off their reserve.
01:08:31We've got a lot to do.
01:08:32There's a lot to do.
01:08:33It's good to be back.
01:08:35Back with a bang.
01:08:36Another beautiful day in paradise.
01:08:38I'm home.
01:08:39I'm home.
01:08:40Then it's the big day, as our island resorts go on sale.
01:08:45It's all under the hammer.
01:08:48But will all couples make it to the auction?
01:08:51Carol married to things like you is beyond me.
01:08:53I deserve so much better.
01:08:54How little I mean to him is really sad.
01:08:59I just want to go home.
01:09:02Can we have a break?
01:09:10She's gone.
01:09:11So you think she's literally just jumped on a plane home?
01:09:15Yeah.
