00:00:00Previously, our blockheads kicked off back yard work.
00:00:04Managed chaos.
00:00:05I've never seen so many trucks, so many guys, so many pieces of machinery and equipment
00:00:11operating in the one place.
00:00:14One team failed to keep up.
00:00:16They've turned around the delivery for the timber, for the steel, for everything that
00:00:20we ordered from Minotown.
00:00:21Because of the congestion in the driveway.
00:00:23Deliveries affects us at the back of the block at the moment.
00:00:26Nothing's getting through.
00:00:27They faced one setback after another.
00:00:30What's this I hear about, you're not getting delivery of plants?
00:00:34We were under the impression that all our plants were sorted.
00:00:37Clay's trying really hard to stay on top of everything.
00:00:39Apparently that was not quite the case.
00:00:41There's a lot of work to be done back there, that's for sure.
00:00:45Tonight, it's the final push to reveal, but Carly and Brad fall even further behind.
00:00:53Everyone else's yards are developing and ours isn't.
00:00:56It's a pretty dire situation.
00:00:57A major problem is found in house one.
00:01:00Can't be revealed.
00:01:01No, it's got to go.
00:01:02What?
00:01:03Sorry guys.
00:01:04The boys have put so much hard work in and I can't afford this mistake.
00:01:08And the backyards are revealed to the judges.
00:01:11Oh my God.
00:01:13What on earth?
00:01:15With special guest and landscape guru, Dave Franklin, joining the line up.
00:01:19As soon as you walk in, you're drawn to it.
00:01:21It does scream resort.
00:01:23No offence, but it's just landscaping.
00:01:26What we're seeing is a really poorly planned, uninviting space.
00:01:48Saturday on the block is crazy every week, but backyard week is just another story.
00:01:55You have so many people.
00:01:57There is so many people.
00:02:00You have people working on top of each other.
00:02:02The landscapers are running around like trying to plant trees and there's heaps of them and
00:02:05we're trying to dig holes to help them.
00:02:08You have people coming in for the pool.
00:02:10You have the dream court going in.
00:02:14Yeah, there was just a million things happening.
00:02:20The Canadian Charlotte's backyard stretches across 448 square metres in size.
00:02:25It will include a half-sized basketball court and recreation area, as well as a spiral staircase
00:02:31to the mezzanine of their home.
00:02:33Around the corner will be their above ground pool, a deck and an outdoor kitchen, as well
00:02:39as a dining and lounge area, a fire pit area with a pizza oven and a deck off the main
00:02:44suite.
00:02:45It is very frantic.
00:02:46We've got all our carpenters giving us a chop out here for the decking.
00:02:50We've got plenty of decking to go.
00:02:51We've also got a barbecue area going in, which is really pretty cool.
00:02:54We're going to be racy for this one, I think.
00:02:56We always want to do an outdoor kitchen, like a fridge, a sink and a barbecue all in one.
00:03:01We're like, we'll do it ourselves and then we're like, oh, we need to put a bench top
00:03:07on it.
00:03:08Madeline went to go and pick up stone from like an hour and a half away because we got
00:03:12decked on quoted and it was going to be six grand and we cannot afford that.
00:03:17Our budget is looking very tight.
00:03:19Front yard is going to be very minimalistic.
00:03:22So, yeah, not looking great.
00:03:24We have to win this week.
00:03:30Next door in house two is Courtney and Grant's 403 square metre backyard.
00:03:34It will feature a large deck off their living area with an undercover barbecue, dining and
00:03:39lounge space, as well as a pizza oven.
00:03:42There'll also be a fire pit area, a pool with sun deck and an additional seating area with
00:03:47an outdoor fireplace.
00:03:58Saturday morning, we're off and running.
00:04:00We've got our new plants all laid out in the ground, they're ready to be put in.
00:04:05The mulch is ready to be installed and the turf is waiting to be rolled out nice and
00:04:10fresh.
00:04:12Feeling really good.
00:04:13Feeling really good.
00:04:14We're in a good position.
00:04:15We looked around last night and we're very happy with what we've produced.
00:04:17We're in a good spot.
00:04:18So, we're happy.
00:04:19Very happy.
00:04:20I'm happy.
00:04:22Believe it or not.
00:04:31Mate, this has come along nicely.
00:04:35Very chilled vibes over in house two.
00:04:36We're good.
00:04:37We're in a good spot.
00:04:38Very chilled vibes.
00:04:39Very chilled.
00:04:40Yeah.
00:04:42Dan thinks we're in a good position.
00:04:43I think, yeah, we're looking good.
00:04:44It feels nice and calming.
00:04:45It feels nice.
00:04:46Yeah.
00:04:47I feel like we're in a, yeah, we're in a good spot.
00:04:48We've still got a bit to do tonight, but it's like, it's doable.
00:04:49Yeah.
00:04:50So, with house two in such a good spot, they're the first to get their pool filled, with one
00:04:51final step to go.
00:04:52Miles, how are you, mate?
00:04:53Yeah, good.
00:04:54How are you doing?
00:04:55Just pouring in some of these revived minerals by Porite.
00:04:56And that's, I guess, instead of doing chlorophyll, you're doing chlorophyll.
00:04:57Yeah.
00:04:58Yeah.
00:04:59Yeah.
00:05:00Yeah.
00:05:01Yeah.
00:05:02Yeah.
00:05:03Yeah.
00:05:04Yeah.
00:05:05Yeah.
00:05:06Yeah.
00:05:07Yeah.
00:05:08So, I'm pouring in some of these revived minerals by Porite.
00:05:10And that's, I guess, instead of doing chlorine, this is a lot healthier.
00:05:12Yeah.
00:05:13Yeah.
00:05:14So, gone are the days of the red eyes.
00:05:15Yeah.
00:05:16These actually help you maintain the balance in the pool, and they're actually good for
00:05:19your skin and hair.
00:05:20That's awesome, mate.
00:05:21All right.
00:05:22Well, I'll leave you to it.
00:05:23Welcome to our garden.
00:05:24It's time to begin.
00:05:25Now, count it in.
00:05:26Five, six, seven, eight.
00:05:27The boys' backyard is a massive 488 square metres in size.
00:05:28It will feature their large wraparound lawn, a deck of greenery, and a huge pool.
00:05:30The boys' backyard is a massive 488 square metres in size.
00:05:34It will feature their large wraparound lawn, a deck off their main bedroom, a large swing
00:05:40set, and their huge plunging pool and deck area, with a mosaic feature wall behind it.
00:05:45The boys are teddy landscaping, hammering away, getting the edging done.
00:05:50Turf's getting laid.
00:05:51Tons of pots to go in.
00:05:52Plenty of turf here.
00:05:53Your outdoor deck.
00:05:54Off the main bedroom, more turf.
00:05:58Cricket pitch turf.
00:06:00Yeah, we've got to finish off the turf, finish off this deck here, finish off the deck over
00:06:03the other side, and then furnish it.
00:06:06No landscaping, no problems.
00:06:08R&H, we got this.
00:06:09Five, six, seven, eight.
00:06:12Next door in house four, Carly and Brad have the smallest backyard at 378 square metres.
00:06:18Their space includes their stone cladded pool, a timber boardwalk and large stone pavers.
00:06:24They'll also have a fire pit area with a curved concrete bench, as well as a narrow yard leading
00:06:30around to the side of the property, where they'll have a lawn, plus a private entrance
00:06:35to the communal tennis court.
00:06:39What's happening with your landscaping?
00:06:49Next question.
00:06:52I don't know what's happening.
00:06:54Not much.
00:06:58There's a lot to do and everyone else's yards are developing and ours isn't.
00:07:03I'm concerned and it stresses Brad out, so.
00:07:08Where are we?
00:07:09Where are we at?
00:07:10What are we doing?
00:07:11We're going to try and get this as presentable as we can for you, mate.
00:07:14We're going to just do what we can.
00:07:19Yeah, it's a pretty dire situation.
00:07:21Yeah.
00:07:23We're significantly behind in the backyard.
00:07:26There's been huge amounts of construction going on there still.
00:07:29I know you're stressed out, mate.
00:07:31So am I.
00:07:32But come on, I want to get this done for you.
00:07:35Yeah, I know.
00:07:36My priorities are just to look after you as best I can and try and get you through as best I can.
00:07:40OK?
00:07:41There's always a way, if we just put our heads together and our minds to it and work together,
00:07:44we're going to get stuff done.
00:07:48Um, look, yeah, look, we're behind.
00:07:50There's no way, you know, no other way to describe it.
00:07:53We are a small team and we're working to a semi-limited budget.
00:07:59So we're doing the very best we can.
00:08:01But I'm not going to give up.
00:08:03I'm not going to give up on Brad and Kylie.
00:08:05We're just going to do our best to get it done.
00:08:07So we've got 890 kilos of steel edging we've got to put somewhere.
00:08:11Yeah.
00:08:12I'll tell you what, if you can just, I'll get Longy up here.
00:08:14If you can work with him on getting a spot, I'll get it in here.
00:08:17All right, do that.
00:08:18Let's do that.
00:08:19Come on.
00:08:22Clay sort of said that, no, like, no matter what, I'm backing you guys.
00:08:28Like, I'm going to make sure that you have a garden to finish.
00:08:32Like, I'm not leaving it like this.
00:08:35But definitely getting worried about running behind or even getting it done.
00:08:45Over in House 5, it's the biggest backyard on the block.
00:08:48Coming in at 552 square metres.
00:08:51Christian and Mimi's yard features a pool surrounded by a timber deck
00:08:55and a separate dining area with a drinks bar.
00:08:58Then there'll be a curvy path leading to the other side of the house
00:09:02where they're putting a basketball court, a fire pit and a seating area.
00:09:07Today, we need to finish off the garden lights.
00:09:10We've got lawn coming.
00:09:12We've got more soil.
00:09:14We've got mulching.
00:09:17The swimming pool needs to be grouted and cleaned and filled.
00:09:22We've got fences going in.
00:09:24We've got to clean.
00:09:26We've got to style.
00:09:27There's so much work to do.
00:09:30And where were you on Saturday, Mimi?
00:09:35I had an event that I went to.
00:09:41So stop, stop the music.
00:09:44We were passing like a bullet.
00:09:47He just tours and he just plays Disney and Nickelodeon music.
00:09:53And I was losing my mind.
00:09:56I tried.
00:09:58Trust me, that's the price of beauty.
00:10:01Who says you're not pretty?
00:10:03Who says you're not beautiful?
00:10:06Who says?
00:10:08But you raced back to the block.
00:10:09You were there for a pre-start?
00:10:10I was not there for pre-start.
00:10:11I came at midday.
00:10:28Best night ever.
00:10:33Good afternoon.
00:10:35I told you to be home before midnight.
00:10:39It's not midnight.
00:10:41It's not midnight.
00:10:42You're turning into a pumpkin.
00:10:43But at least he did something productive after.
00:10:50Mimi, Mimi!
00:10:52Mimi!
00:10:55Coming up, Dan and Simo uncover a huge problem in house one.
00:10:59Where'd you get this stuff from?
00:11:00It's banned product.
00:11:01It's no longer produced, manufactured, shipped in to Australia.
00:11:06So I don't even know how the girls got it here.
00:11:08If you present a room without a bench top,
00:11:09you've taken yourself out of the running to win.
00:11:23It's Saturday afternoon of Backyard Week
00:11:25and our blockheads are busy tackling some of the largest spaces
00:11:28we've seen this season.
00:11:34And amongst the mayhem, the modular walls are going up.
00:11:37It's a divide.
00:11:38The divide of house three and four.
00:11:40And the pool cleaners are going in.
00:11:43What's up, mate?
00:11:44Dan.
00:11:48Is this the robot we're talking about?
00:11:49Yeah, this is the one.
00:11:50Mate, explain to me.
00:11:51Obviously, it cleans pools, but what's so special about it?
00:11:53It's got a double filtration system.
00:11:55It cleans the walls, the floors and the tile line.
00:11:59And the tile line?
00:12:00And the tile line.
00:12:01It comes up all the way.
00:12:02That's pretty impressive.
00:12:03That's it.
00:12:04And it won't clean twice.
00:12:05It's got smart navigation in it.
00:12:06It knows where it's going in the pool.
00:12:07Yep, that's right.
00:12:08That's amazing.
00:12:10Meanwhile, in house four,
00:12:12the finish line is still nowhere in sight.
00:12:15Absolute pigsty.
00:12:19We need to get this done.
00:12:21It's not going to get done.
00:12:22And even if we do, it's going to look like s***.
00:12:25But there's one trade who's heard their struggles
00:12:28and he's on his way to offer a hand.
00:12:31Clay.
00:12:32How are you?
00:12:33Good to see you.
00:12:34How are you, mate?
00:12:35Miles behind where the other dog's, mate.
00:12:36Yeah, that's right.
00:12:37What have you still got to do?
00:12:39Oh, look, we've got to mount the soil to come in.
00:12:41I've got all my steel edging here ready to go.
00:12:43We've got the plants.
00:12:44Really, just three-quarters of this lawn.
00:12:47Well, we've just got to finish off some lawn.
00:12:50I can come down and help you move some soil in here.
00:12:52Oh, really?
00:12:53Yeah, I'll give you a chopper.
00:12:54Bloody hell.
00:12:55Well, just tell me what I can do in return.
00:12:57Yeah, so as soon as that soil comes here,
00:13:00just give us a call.
00:13:01We'll come down with half a dozen barrels.
00:13:02Bloody hell.
00:13:03We'll start burrowing it in for you.
00:13:04Are you serious?
00:13:05Yeah, absolutely.
00:13:06I don't even know what to say.
00:13:07Mate, we want everyone to finish.
00:13:09It's full on, you know what I mean?
00:13:11It kicks you in the guts, mate.
00:13:13They're a long, long, long way away.
00:13:16So, yeah, of course, if we can help,
00:13:17of course we're going to help.
00:13:19Being a new trade on the block is no joke.
00:13:23And to be a new trade in landscaping is...
00:13:28I can understand, like, it'd be so overwhelming
00:13:31because you have a plan, but things don't go to plan.
00:13:35You're also trying to do, like, a month's job in one week.
00:13:40They're going to help us.
00:13:41We're going to come and help you.
00:13:43Yeah, we'll just come and help you move all your soil in
00:13:45and we'll get all your turf laid for you.
00:13:47Yeah, because he's miles off and he's flat as a tack.
00:13:51Your turf's here, so we'll get it in.
00:13:54If we can help out, you know, if it's an hour, two hours,
00:13:56three hours, we'll just come and get it done for you.
00:13:59Thanks, Troy.
00:14:00Thanks, Troy.
00:14:01Really appreciate it.
00:14:02Troy's heard the struggles with Clay
00:14:06and we need to catch up from all of the little hiccups
00:14:10along the way, I guess.
00:14:12The minute Soilworks come and dropped off all our topsoil,
00:14:15what him and four other boys were down there
00:14:17wheelbarrowing it in.
00:14:19Where do you want it?
00:14:20Just here, mate.
00:14:21Just in this block, boys.
00:14:22Thanks.
00:14:23Thanks, boys.
00:14:24Because he has done the block a few times now,
00:14:27he just got in there and was even just like to Clay,
00:14:29you're doing this, you're doing that, you're doing that.
00:14:32Brad and I were in there getting advice about what we need
00:14:34to be doing because we don't landscape.
00:14:36So all of us doing that, it was probably done in turf
00:14:40in less than like two hours.
00:14:44It just kind of turned around.
00:14:46Excellent.
00:14:47Massive help.
00:14:51We're going to let you finish off now, all right?
00:14:53Great.
00:14:54You've done amazing and full credit to you for today
00:14:57and how you've gone so far.
00:14:59No, all great, mate.
00:15:01Massive effort by Troy from Loverday.
00:15:04Like, he didn't have to do that.
00:15:08He could have just, you know, he's finished, he's got a good team.
00:15:11You know, it's a big team.
00:15:13He could have just left it as it is but just came down
00:15:16and gave us a massive chop out and credit where credit's due.
00:15:19Good bloke.
00:15:21If anyone lives in the western suburbs, I'd definitely get him.
00:15:24He's got his s*** together.
00:15:31I picked up these pieces of stone because we got a quote
00:15:36like at the beginning of the week and it was like six grand.
00:15:40I had to like go searching and I got a Caesar stone,
00:15:45like outdoor stone thingy for like literally like one-fifth of the price.
00:15:51So, yeah, this should be fun.
00:15:53I assume that we need to secure the bottom before we secure the join, you know?
00:15:58So, we're in the process of installing it.
00:16:03And Dan and Simo came over.
00:16:06Oh, no.
00:16:07Here we go.
00:16:08Here's the trouble.
00:16:09And that's when I was like, oh, crap.
00:16:13They looked at the stone.
00:16:14What's wrong with it?
00:16:15I don't know.
00:16:16You're about to find out.
00:16:18She's going in now.
00:16:21It's a major problem.
00:16:22What's the problem?
00:16:24Caesar stone.
00:16:25Where did you get this stuff from?
00:16:28It's a banned product.
00:16:29Banned product.
00:16:32Really?
00:16:33It's a banned product.
00:16:34Yeah.
00:16:35Even though we haven't cut it on site or anything?
00:16:36Yeah, it's still a banned product.
00:16:37Really?
00:16:38Is all stone banned?
00:16:39All Caesar stone is banned.
00:16:41Any product with silica in it has been banned with a high percentage.
00:16:45And this bench top has like 70% of it in there.
00:16:48So it's no longer produced, manufactured, shipped into Australia.
00:16:53So I don't even know how the girls got it here, surprisingly.
00:16:57Well, it's the only thing they got it cheap.
00:17:03So we're going to have to get rid of it.
00:17:05Can we like just leave it for the moment?
00:17:07What's that?
00:17:08Can we just leave it for the moment?
00:17:09No.
00:17:10Can't be a deal.
00:17:11No, it's got to go.
00:17:12Sorry, guys.
00:17:14Dang it.
00:17:16It's like 5.30 now on a Saturday, and we have no backup.
00:17:21Essentially, if you present a room without a bench top,
00:17:23you're taking yourself out of the running to win.
00:17:28Dang it.
00:17:29Have you got any spare tiles?
00:17:32Yeah.
00:17:33Curious, you guys are just leaving.
00:17:35Whether you want to twist their arm.
00:17:37Yeah.
00:17:38Get some Sky on down and tile it.
00:17:40Yeah, and tile it.
00:17:42Can we give them a few more hours for tools?
00:17:44An hour or so?
00:17:45Yeah, I'll give you another hour or so.
00:17:46Yeah, OK.
00:17:47See you, brother.
00:17:48It was tools down at 5 o'clock.
00:17:49We're going to give them till 6, 6.30.
00:17:51Hopefully, they can get it solved.
00:17:54I don't know.
00:17:57Hello?
00:17:58Hello, hello.
00:17:59It's Charlotte from house one of the block.
00:18:00How are you going?
00:18:01Good.
00:18:02How are you doing?
00:18:03Not so good.
00:18:04Are you still here?
00:18:05We're just driving out of the car park.
00:18:06Oh.
00:18:07Do you want to do me?
00:18:08Well, we just put in our Caesar stone bench top,
00:18:10and we got told that we're not allowed to put in Caesar stone.
00:18:15Now, our only other option is to tile.
00:18:18OK.
00:18:19Would you come back and have a look to see if there's something we can do?
00:18:23OK, amazing.
00:18:24Thanks so much.
00:18:25So, hopefully, we can come up with some sort of pattern with leftover tiles.
00:18:31So, it's all these.
00:18:35What's going in these openings?
00:18:37Barbecue and sink.
00:18:39Oh, wow.
00:18:41But the problem with tiling is that you need a substrate to obviously lay tiles on,
00:18:46and that's something we didn't have.
00:18:52I just don't have that material to do the substrate properly.
00:18:55That's my problem.
00:18:56We're going to spend money now doing it all,
00:18:58and then rip it all out and do it again in time.
00:19:02Like, what have we got, some seven?
00:19:04Yeah, to make noise.
00:19:06I don't think it's worth it.
00:19:09I don't think it's worth it.
00:19:11What are you going to do, have nothing but a piece of it?
00:19:13Well, I'll just get it marked down and do it properly for the sale of the house.
00:19:18So, my thing would be...
00:19:19OK.
00:19:20First, you can quickly cut ply on there,
00:19:22and you can just drop the barbecue in there so it looks like what it is.
00:19:26Like, unfinished, I know.
00:19:28Or just leave it how it is.
00:19:29There's no chance of winning.
00:19:30There's no... Yeah.
00:19:31So, there's no chance of winning, then?
00:19:32So, you're going to do all this for 10 grand.
00:19:34You're going to pay for these guys to help and everyone else.
00:19:37Well, at least finish everything else,
00:19:39because Ryan's pushing it, so you'll get another two boys helping him.
00:19:42So, I'm like, I'll be blunt, you're not going to do it.
00:19:44He's being honest, yeah, that's it.
00:19:45Seriously.
00:19:46You're going to waste your time.
00:19:47Let's do it properly.
00:19:49This makes me so sad.
00:19:53The plan is to put V-groove down instead,
00:19:56and paint it, and just prepare everything else.
00:20:00Just keep going along.
00:20:02Not waste too much time on it.
00:20:04Sucks.
00:20:06Like, you just completely take yourself out of winning.
00:20:11And, like, the boys have put so much hard work in,
00:20:14and you want to, like, do everyone proud,
00:20:17and it just sucks, you know?
00:20:19And, like, I can't afford this mistake.
00:20:21Like, we're going to have to replace it anyway,
00:20:23and I just can't afford it.
00:20:26And, like, I drove four hours today to get that,
00:20:29and, like, everyone else has put so much hard work in,
00:20:31and just to not deliver something finished just sucks, you know?
00:20:36I'm just, like, sad for, like, everyone
00:20:38who's put so much work into this.
00:20:42Yeah.
00:20:57How was your night?
00:20:58Long, and tiring, and wet.
00:21:01Did you get any sleep at all?
00:21:03I got an hour.
00:21:04If I'd gotten an hour each, we'd have teamed.
00:21:06The stone was a disaster, but we got a temporary, like, feeling.
00:21:10For something that's not meant to be a bench top,
00:21:13I reckon it looks quite nice.
00:21:16Yeah.
00:21:25What have you got left to do this morning?
00:21:29Get everything out.
00:21:32How are you feeling this morning?
00:21:34Deflated.
00:21:36It's like our third or fourth space now in a row
00:21:39that we haven't completely finished.
00:21:41I'd like to be further along, but we are where we are.
00:21:44Garden lighting's not done.
00:21:46I would have liked to have done a bit more with the sides of the deck.
00:21:50And you can only expect to do so much after such a big day, so...
00:21:55In my eyes, we've not even made it a quarter of the way.
00:22:10We pulled the pin around 2, 3 o'clock, I think,
00:22:13and got a few hours' sleep and got up in the morning
00:22:16and finished everything off.
00:22:18What was left to do?
00:22:19Plant the rest of the plants that we couldn't see.
00:22:22Plant the rest of the plants that we couldn't see.
00:22:24If only one plant had to go in.
00:22:28Ah, we'll win now, that's for sure.
00:22:31We're one tree short.
00:22:34We're happy with the space, considering that we just landscaped,
00:22:38I don't know, like 300 squares of area,
00:22:41and we don't even own a shovel.
00:22:44Or a rake.
00:22:45LAUGHTER
00:22:50Do you feel like you can't finish anything
00:22:53without having a little argument?
00:22:55Oh, for sure.
00:23:00Why didn't you take the plastic off after I girded?
00:23:03I'm f***ing spraying mud and you pull them off.
00:23:06I asked you if I'm going to take them off.
00:23:09F*** you.
00:23:11It wouldn't be a room reveal
00:23:13without arguing at least five times.
00:23:15Courtney, get the f*** off the pavement.
00:23:18Shut up!
00:23:20I love her so much.
00:23:22Yes, we argue and she frustrates the absolute hell out of me.
00:23:26Give me a kiss.
00:23:27Shh!
00:23:28Kiss.
00:23:33We mainly have to clean.
00:23:36I think we're just running on pure adrenaline.
00:23:40Shh!
00:23:51Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
00:23:54I don't want a brick at the bottom of your pool.
00:24:22We were still digging holes and mulching when it came to tools down.
00:24:35Tools down! Crazy!
00:24:42You did it.
00:24:44Give me a hug you smelly little man.
00:24:47It's so cold.
00:24:49It's less cold.
00:24:51It was actually like four degrees a day.
00:25:17Oh, g'day.
00:25:19Hey Scotty.
00:25:20Hey Frankie.
00:25:21Hello, hello.
00:25:22Everyone's quiet.
00:25:23Hey Scotty.
00:25:24Hello.
00:25:25Scotty.
00:25:26Scotty.
00:25:27Hey.
00:25:28Hello, hello.
00:25:29Scotty.
00:25:30Frankie.
00:25:31You tired?
00:25:32We're a bit sore mate.
00:25:33You a bit quiet?
00:25:34Body's hurting.
00:25:35We're broken.
00:25:36Body's hurting?
00:25:37Body's hurting.
00:25:38I tell you what, I reckon you all delivered the best holiday home backyards ever.
00:25:39The best on Phillip Island I reckon.
00:25:41Well done.
00:25:42This week you will be judged out of 40 because our resident landscaping expert Dave Franklin judged alongside our regular judging panel.
00:26:12Tonight is your last chance for you to take home $10,000 from Ford.
00:26:28And won't that be a bonus come your final landscaping week, front facade, because the team that wins front facade week is going to take home for their personal driving pleasure, the Ford Mustang Mark E.
00:26:43What?
00:26:44That's right.
00:26:45So that means it's even more important to win tonight and put that money towards this.
00:26:53You ready to go?
00:26:54Yeah.
00:26:55Absolutely.
00:26:56Maddie and Charlotte.
00:26:59Oh, I'd say this week was a bit of a Debbie Downer, Soz.
00:27:05House one has the third biggest backyard with 448 square metres.
00:27:10We pulled our High Pages lever.
00:27:14Sorry, that was really scary.
00:27:16We need $10,000 from High Pages.
00:27:19Fantastic.
00:27:20We need all the hands on deck we can get.
00:27:22It was so great having High Pages helping us because I'm not sure we'd be able to do it without them.
00:27:30My personal style is more coastal, relaxed, a little bit rustic.
00:27:34That's nice.
00:27:36These are perfect and big.
00:27:37I want that one.
00:27:39You've got the yarn for it, definitely.
00:27:42Alright, so we've got a range of decking boards here.
00:27:44We've obviously got our wider and narrow boards and a bunch of different species.
00:27:47We've got like your spotted gum, your blackbark.
00:27:49My house is like super coastal and chill, so like lighter is my vibe.
00:27:57So with our High Pages lever, we also got $5,000 to put towards a special item or object,
00:28:04which we decided obviously would be our spiral staircase.
00:28:08They are finally going in.
00:28:11Yeah, it was perfect.
00:28:24I just love how versatile the space is.
00:28:27I love that we have the kids zone.
00:28:29I love that we have the external access.
00:28:31I love that we have a pool area, pizza oven, a fire pit.
00:28:35It's not just like one big space.
00:28:38It's like just heaps of just like cool pockets.
00:28:42The first thing our judges noticed was the impressive size.
00:28:48Oh my God.
00:28:52Jeez, look how big this is.
00:28:55Massive, isn't it?
00:28:56It's huge.
00:28:57Dave!
00:28:59Native to Australian backyards.
00:29:01Oh, that's right.
00:29:02Is Dave Franklin.
00:29:03I don't know about that, but thanks for having me.
00:29:05Someone that can actually pronounce the plants that have been installed.
00:29:08Well, a couple of plants anyway.
00:29:10We'll see how I go today.
00:29:12The fact that they've already got all these existing paperbark trees,
00:29:16it just already provides a landscape for them.
00:29:19So we've got tea tree here.
00:29:21We've got willy-pilly.
00:29:22We've got the bletchins there.
00:29:23So we've got a very coastal palette of trees here and we have a lot of lawn as well.
00:29:27And we don't get to see this a lot on the block.
00:29:29This is a really heavy hitting big swing of a backyard.
00:29:35It's week 11 on the block and Dave Franklin was seeing both speed and budget in the barbecue and surrounds.
00:29:43You had a bit of an issue with the bench top, didn't you?
00:29:45Yeah.
00:29:46Let's face it, it's not doing like a barbecue.
00:29:48It's not quick.
00:29:49This is quick.
00:29:51But it looks good.
00:29:52I love how they've kept it really simple in their application here.
00:29:57They can just change it when it gets a bit rough because it's exterior panelling.
00:30:02Simplicity.
00:30:03It looks incredible.
00:30:04It ties in beautifully with the exterior of the building and it looks good.
00:30:10Marty Fox knows how to throw a party.
00:30:12And for him, what you've delivered is clearly an entertainer's dream.
00:30:17Having this element of being undercover makes it so unique.
00:30:20Having this element of being undercover makes it so useful.
00:30:24This is all afternoon sun.
00:30:27So in terms of the position on the block, being on this side of the resort means that in those afternoons when you're having those barbecues with family, you've got that beautiful light coming through.
00:30:37This is a real entertainer's dream, being on this side of the block.
00:30:41Look at this.
00:30:42Sonos here.
00:30:43I actually just saw another one under here.
00:30:46Party house.
00:30:51They moved out onto the lawn today.
00:30:53Shona liked the way the design of your zones throughout the garden utilises so many curves.
00:31:00We've got this beautiful rounded curve at the end of the deck.
00:31:03We've got a little curve around the pizza oven and we've got rounded stepping stones.
00:31:08We've got a curved seat and it undulates and goes round and it snakes in and out in the garden beds rather than being just a straight edge.
00:31:16Marty also could see a lot of thought had gone into the choice of plants too.
00:31:21They've created privacy through seeing how these plants will grow over time.
00:31:24So with that main wing at the back, having that row of ficus hillii to just create that natural fence.
00:31:31It's one tree that I know.
00:31:36Please get it right.
00:31:37It's lily pilly.
00:31:38It's not ficus mate.
00:31:43I was so confident that that was a ficus hillii.
00:31:47Not far off.
00:31:49Just stick to real estate mate.
00:31:52Anyway, that is so good for buyers because you're not creating segregation.
00:31:55You'll have these elements of privacy even though it's one big open space which I really like.
00:32:00The judges then found yet another seating area off the main bedroom where you already set the scene for wine.
00:32:08Oh my goodness, can you imagine just sitting here?
00:32:12In your main bedroom suite.
00:32:14A big slab there.
00:32:15Yes, cup of tea in the morning.
00:32:17What an oasis, it's beautiful.
00:32:20Shona said the workmanship throughout this landscape is phenomenal for a week.
00:32:25We haven't even seen the pool.
00:32:27No.
00:32:28Like, come on.
00:32:29And the pool is all the way up there.
00:32:39Up under the pool deck.
00:32:40That stone is beautiful.
00:32:42Yeah.
00:32:43Darren thinks it's very well finished off.
00:32:45The timber matches that stone really beautifully.
00:32:49It's a nice big plunge pool.
00:32:51They've got a nice big daybed here.
00:32:53It's lovely up here and it's really quite lovely to be elevated with all the canopy of the treetops.
00:32:58This is the biggest play area.
00:33:00Can we have a look at that?
00:33:07You've got a basketball court.
00:33:09I'm kidding me.
00:33:10This is insane.
00:33:12You've got a little sock-a-net.
00:33:14Look at this.
00:33:17Then Marty found the spiral staircase.
00:33:19From a marketing perspective, as we've spoken about this being something that could be leased out independently of the house.
00:33:26I mean, this is insane.
00:33:28So, outdoor kitchen, outdoor lounge, fire pit area, main wing retreat and a kids basketball court with a swimming pool.
00:33:37How do you actually do all of that within one week to this standard?
00:33:41We were here last week.
00:33:43This was mud.
00:33:46Shana takes her hat off to you both and to your entire team.
00:33:50The girls came in halfway through.
00:33:52They've got this incredible build team and landscaping team.
00:33:56The way they must have all worked together to produce this is a machine.
00:34:03This is three backyards in one.
00:34:06Design, planning, finish, amenity, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick.
00:34:12That's it.
00:34:13Maddie and Charlotte.
00:34:17We feel good.
00:34:18We're very happy that we got such positive feedback.
00:34:22We're so happy for our landscaping team and our carpentry team.
00:34:26They smashed it.
00:34:27They did such a good job.
00:34:28We're just bummed that our stones didn't work.
00:34:36OK, house two, Courtney and Grumpy.
00:34:43This week was moist.
00:34:44This week was wet and wild.
00:34:50Yeah, I've loved landscape week.
00:34:51I've worked in landscaping for the last few years.
00:34:54I did it a lot when I was younger as well.
00:34:56Always enjoyed being out in the garden.
00:34:58House two has the second smallest backyard, coming in at 403 square metres.
00:35:02It's an entertainer's yard.
00:35:04It's an entertainer's yard.
00:35:05It's really cool.
00:35:07The boys are just pouring the seat now.
00:35:09It's a bit of a risk because they're going to be forced to go outside at seven.
00:35:13So if the seat doesn't sort of set in time and they can't pull it off,
00:35:16we're not ****ed, but the seat won't be what we thought it was.
00:35:23It looks nice.
00:35:26I'm excited that you've chosen one of our ovens, Courtney.
00:35:29It's fantastic.
00:35:30This works perfectly with our house because we've got a lot of the curves.
00:35:34It's like a modern Mediterranean house.
00:35:36Yeah, I was like, we have to have it.
00:35:39We've got an out-of-ground plungy ball where we are doing a travertine checkerboard tile.
00:35:45So we've got the imperial tilers again and we know they'll smash it.
00:35:49They kill it every time they're here.
00:35:53Today I am shopping for some outdoor furniture from Freedom.
00:35:57I've actually seen a really nice lounge package in store,
00:36:01which is called the Sonata sofa package.
00:36:04It's actually really cool. It goes with that Mediterranean feel.
00:36:10I hope the judges take away the fact that we married the indoors with the outdoors.
00:36:17We managed to fit five separate entertaining areas.
00:36:20They're between the fire pit, dining table, lounge setting on the main deck.
00:36:25We've got the deck seating and then we've got the master bedroom, sort of two suites there.
00:36:30And then we still have a huge amount of grass for kids to run around and play and kick a ball and do whatever.
00:36:36So I hope they take that away from it.
00:36:38We've tried to make every space as user-friendly as possible.
00:36:42It was drizzling rain when our judges walked into your backyard,
00:36:45but that took away none of the impact.
00:36:49Oh, my God.
00:36:51Wow.
00:36:59I literally thought house one had hit it out of the ballpark.
00:37:03And I think we've got a contender.
00:37:05How cool is this?
00:37:07First of all, barbecue of dreams.
00:37:10This is an outdoor kitchen.
00:37:12You know what? I'm looking at house one going,
00:37:14You know what? I'm looking at house one going,
00:37:16Oh, no, they didn't do that.
00:37:18That is phenomenal.
00:37:20That is sexy.
00:37:22I want it.
00:37:24Oh, they've even styled inside the drawers.
00:37:27Oh, they've installed inside everything.
00:37:29Oh, look at this.
00:37:30Get out of town.
00:37:31Seriously.
00:37:36Dave Franklin said,
00:37:37What is better than having olive trees, lemon trees and even your bay leaf trees as well?
00:37:43Everything that you need to cook for the barbecue is right here, right in front of you.
00:37:47Marty thinks this outdoor space is the hook for your campaign.
00:37:52This indoor-outdoor flow, this is what people pay for.
00:37:56This is what gets them emotionally connected to a property,
00:37:58envisaging themselves with all their family and friends feeling at home.
00:38:02To me, they've always known how to sell the dream.
00:38:05They then moved on to the lounge area
00:38:07and found some really beautiful and very comfortable freedom furniture.
00:38:11But Marty wasn't entirely convinced about the eight posts.
00:38:17For me, this looks unfinished, this little walkway area,
00:38:20which is the journey from lounge to pool.
00:38:23Why is it unfinished?
00:38:24Well, I just would have thought that having slats over these eight posts
00:38:27with a beautiful vine creeping over it and hanging down
00:38:30would have created that outdoor tunnel.
00:38:33Like an arbor.
00:38:34Yeah, like a beautiful arbor.
00:38:35For me, this is the only thing that I'm questioning
00:38:38of feeling a little bit unfinished.
00:38:41Dave Franklin disagrees.
00:38:43Marty, this is garden art.
00:38:46So there's nothing wrong with having poles, with vines growing up.
00:38:50I can see what you're saying with the arbor,
00:38:53but my thing would be that if you put the arbor over this,
00:38:55when it drops down the vines, you're not seeing the pool
00:38:57and you're not seeing the kids' area.
00:38:59I'm with Dave on that one.
00:39:00The judges then headed down to your pool area
00:39:03to check out your plungy pool.
00:39:05I love how they've used the posts as part of the pool fence.
00:39:10It's stunning.
00:39:11It's just gorgeous.
00:39:13Oh, and it's so much bigger.
00:39:15House 1, obviously, that was a pool that would serve
00:39:18two to three people max.
00:39:20We could have six, seven people sitting here,
00:39:23having a wine in the pool, conversing with people on the grass.
00:39:27This is a different, entertaining feel, isn't it?
00:39:33Also, above your head, shower.
00:39:35That's cool.
00:39:36That's awesome.
00:39:37And the compliments kept coming from our judges.
00:39:40There's a whole new area around there.
00:39:43That's a true private, private zone, isn't it?
00:39:46It's stunning.
00:39:48The judges all love the outdoor fire outbox.
00:39:51Where'd you get that from? I like that too.
00:39:53Shots, mate.
00:39:54Was it?
00:39:55Yeah, as soon as I saw it, I know I wanted it.
00:39:57It's pretty lucky we have that modular wall
00:39:59to separate these houses,
00:40:01because you would be looking over the fences with envy.
00:40:05You'd be like, oh, man, I want what they've got.
00:40:08The judges completed their tour of your garden
00:40:11with yet another seating area around the fire pit.
00:40:16And on the way, they discovered a pizza oven and a smoker.
00:40:22Wow.
00:40:23So this is just value, value, value, value, value, and amenity.
00:40:27There's so many different functions,
00:40:30from entertaining to just sitting around, enjoying the fire pit,
00:40:34all the different cooking options.
00:40:36It actually has a lot of use.
00:40:39The curved seating and the paving around the fire pit
00:40:42has been executed perfectly, and the colour of it is divine.
00:40:46Look at the stone. It's gorgeous.
00:40:49Look at that. It looks like marble.
00:40:51So what is this, Dave? Wow.
00:40:53This looks like a limestone to me.
00:40:55It's stunning.
00:40:57There's so much time and money and planning
00:41:01that's gone into this space.
00:41:03It's miraculous that it's this good in this time frame.
00:41:07Like, mind-blowing.
00:41:09The connection that this house has for each one of these zones outside,
00:41:13to be able to be in the fire pit area,
00:41:16converse with people in the kitchen, see the kids in the pool,
00:41:19this is very unique for an outdoor space of this size, isn't it?
00:41:22This is 35, 40 metres of perfection.
00:41:25Dave agrees.
00:41:27The finishes throughout the entire garden are literally perfect.
00:41:32That is it.
00:41:34Thanks, guys. Thank you.
00:41:36I'm positive this is it.
00:41:39Every garden room, they walked into everything
00:41:42that I wanted them to realise and see, they saw.
00:41:45I'm so happy for you, because, I mean, you love landscaping,
00:41:49so, yeah, I'm just very glad that it all worked out
00:41:52and you got positive feedback.
00:41:54Yeah.
00:42:04OK, boys.
00:42:10This week was expensive.
00:42:14The body, the mind, the soul and the back.
00:42:19We've got a gun team coming on, R&H Landscaping.
00:42:22I think this is going to be their first job, though.
00:42:24So, when you say they're guns, they're novices,
00:42:26and we're going to give them a chance.
00:42:28And they're exceptionally good-looking.
00:42:30House 3 has the second biggest backyard,
00:42:32with a size of 488 square metres.
00:42:35I'm not sure how we're going to finish.
00:42:40So, I'm just on Freedom's website,
00:42:42and I'm looking at furniture for our backyard.
00:42:44I'm thinking that we need some nice side tables
00:42:47and an umbrella for the pool area.
00:42:51Come out to Art Fusion, take a look at some sculptures.
00:42:53Oh, that just oozes Phillip Island to me.
00:42:56Look at that.
00:42:58I just love it.
00:43:00We both saw the same one, didn't we?
00:43:02Well, that's it.
00:43:04Ricky's finishing off the swing set this morning.
00:43:06Is that a swing set with old, recycled ironbark?
00:43:09Spotted gum. Spotted gum.
00:43:11Wow, you've done a great job, boys.
00:43:13Very hard to drill through, so I took a little bit to get it done.
00:43:15Pretty heavy to lift, too.
00:43:17So, this is how we originally designed it.
00:43:19It was centred with a pool.
00:43:21The nice mosaic tile piece that's 7.1 metres by 1.4.
00:43:2429,000 tiles.
00:43:26Printed inearly and shipped over.
00:43:29Yeah, it's an epic piece.
00:43:38We hope they take away the sheer amount of land
00:43:41and space of turf that you've got,
00:43:43which we think a real backyard should have.
00:43:46The grass looks amazing.
00:43:48Deck looks fantastic. Plungy pool.
00:43:50Graphico. The custom bar.
00:43:52It's all come together really nicely.
00:43:54I think the judges will be impressed
00:43:56that not only did R&H Landscaping come in late to the game,
00:43:58but I reckon it was executed well.
00:44:03Walking in, Dave Franklin immediately said...
00:44:06This is a backyard.
00:44:08Wow.
00:44:10Where are we again?
00:44:13We could be anywhere, right?
00:44:15The trees coming from the top of the building
00:44:17all the way down to the fence line.
00:44:19Once these lily-pillies grow,
00:44:21then you're going to just be hemmed in with green,
00:44:24with a green canopy above you.
00:44:26This is, like, super private.
00:44:28And that is a proper family backyard.
00:44:31They did not have a landscaper from memory.
00:44:34What?!
00:44:36They've done it themselves with Duncan.
00:44:38I saw him out there front last week
00:44:40and he said to me, he goes,
00:44:42well, you know what, we're going to go for all the grass
00:44:44as much as we can.
00:44:46Have a garden that's fit for a family, really.
00:44:48Dave said this is not just grass.
00:44:50This is Lilydale turf,
00:44:52so they're the best in the business
00:44:54and you can see how great this grass is here.
00:44:56And you know what, this is a buffalo grass here,
00:44:58so this is tough.
00:45:00You can do cricket, footy, whatever you like
00:45:02on this grass here.
00:45:04Marty thinks this is not a bad move
00:45:06from a real estate perspective.
00:45:08Envisage their kids, you know, running around
00:45:10and if they want to add things later, they can.
00:45:14Shona had a look on her face.
00:45:16Here we go.
00:45:18Oh, nothing.
00:45:20She just wasn't feeling it the same way as the other judges.
00:45:22She wanted more.
00:45:24I've just come from two environments
00:45:26that had beautiful shapes
00:45:28to them and they felt
00:45:30different.
00:45:32And it makes sense now that the guys did it.
00:45:34So we'll do a straight line, do some corten steel
00:45:36and we'll chuck everything on the sides.
00:45:38That's sort of what it feels for me.
00:45:40I agree, it could do with some more layers,
00:45:42OK, but it might just
00:45:44sell the place because you can do whatever you like
00:45:46with this garden.
00:45:48Darren Palmer thinks if you were minimising the landscaping
00:45:50to concentrate on the carpentry,
00:45:52then you should have probably
00:45:54finished the deck.
00:45:58I can see the underside of the
00:46:00battens underneath this deck.
00:46:02I can see the pedestals.
00:46:04Yes.
00:46:06If you're going to focus on one thing,
00:46:08the carpentry should have been great.
00:46:10But Shona had to start apologising to you
00:46:12when she turned the corner.
00:46:18Oh my God!
00:46:20Like what on earth?
00:46:22I apologise.
00:46:24I apologise for what I said
00:46:26around the corner.
00:46:28This is insane.
00:46:30We've got swing set,
00:46:32we've got the sculpture,
00:46:34we now have all the curbs.
00:46:36That makes sense it's a football pitch.
00:46:38It makes sense. This is crazy.
00:46:40That's a very cool swing set, isn't it?
00:46:42That's like a 200 or 250 by 250 timber.
00:46:44There's no way that this is going to be shaking
00:46:46by looking at it.
00:46:48You can jump on that.
00:46:50A guy of my size could get on there, for sure.
00:46:52I also realise you delivered the largest pool area
00:46:54I had seen today.
00:46:56Big thumbs up to the amazing
00:46:58plungy pools.
00:47:00The pool is a massive selling feature.
00:47:02It separates them from the others that we've seen.
00:47:04It is the fun house.
00:47:06We've got beach balls, we've got lilos.
00:47:08The Graphico tiles are certainly
00:47:10an interesting addition.
00:47:12That Graphico is really on theme from inside the house
00:47:14with the wallpapers.
00:47:16They have that appeal of pulling in the palms
00:47:18and everything from outside inside
00:47:20and they've reflected that here as well.
00:47:22It's consistent with the inside of the house
00:47:24in that it's fun, it's planned really beautifully
00:47:26for holiday living.
00:47:28It does what it's supposed to do just as well
00:47:30as the inside of the house does.
00:47:32It's not as chic, but it's fun.
00:47:34I think that's the thing.
00:47:36It ticks all the boxes of what
00:47:38a holiday house should be doing.
00:47:40The kids will come in and go,
00:47:42we can kick the footy, we can play cricket,
00:47:44we can go on the swings, we've got beautiful art.
00:47:46We've got the pool.
00:47:48You can access it straight off the living area
00:47:50from the hallway.
00:47:52It ticks so many great boxes.
00:47:54It just doesn't have the finesse and the finishings.
00:47:56If they had a professional landscaper,
00:47:58they would have sold the dream wall.
00:48:00That's it, boys.
00:48:02The Fun Factory is nearly complete.
00:48:04Thanks, mate.
00:48:06We're really happy with the space,
00:48:08but it's super hard to compete
00:48:10with guys that have been working on their yards
00:48:12for months and months and months.
00:48:14I think R&H Landscaping could be in trouble.
00:48:26OK, House 4, Colin Pratt.
00:48:32Here was me thinking that landscaping
00:48:34was going to be fun.
00:48:36House 4 has the smallest backyard,
00:48:38coming in at 378 square metres.
00:48:42Is anyone opposed to
00:48:44us putting a gate into the tennis court?
00:48:46It's right there.
00:48:48I think a lot of people were a bit shocked
00:48:50that I even suggested it.
00:48:52I have no problem with it.
00:48:54Go.
00:48:56Freedom was wonderful.
00:48:58This is outdoor?
00:49:00They're all outdoor.
00:49:02I think that Freedom have been like,
00:49:04we have a girl that loves black,
00:49:06we need more black.
00:49:08There were black cushions, black vases.
00:49:10I'm glad they've waited till week 10.
00:49:12Yeah.
00:49:14I don't know how it's going.
00:49:16I don't think good.
00:49:18Everyone seems very stressed,
00:49:20very frazzled.
00:49:22We were under the impression that
00:49:24all our plans were sorted, and
00:49:26Colin spoke to a couple of them and said,
00:49:28yeah, look, Clay has spoken to us,
00:49:30but he hasn't actually placed the orders.
00:49:32So do we have any beach plans?
00:49:34Not that I've seen, no.
00:49:40Our backyard goes from
00:49:42around the pool
00:49:44to the other end of the building.
00:49:46The whole plan has been really low maintenance
00:49:48for it to be more of a holiday home.
00:49:50It would have been nice to
00:49:52have had the extra cash to have
00:49:54the bigger deck,
00:49:56but we are trying to
00:49:58spread it.
00:50:00Tough week, Kylie and Brad.
00:50:02So I can imagine how you're feeling
00:50:04this evening, because you had
00:50:06a few dramas throughout the week, didn't you?
00:50:08First impressions were great.
00:50:12That's a big pool.
00:50:14It's a great-sized pool.
00:50:16That's as big as the boys' pool, yeah?
00:50:18It's a major selling point, isn't it?
00:50:20Having this pool area off
00:50:22that living space, like right there.
00:50:24However,
00:50:26it's a bit of a wasted opportunity,
00:50:28given that we've got a small
00:50:30area there, and the rest of it's kind of...
00:50:32No offence,
00:50:34but it's just landscaping.
00:50:36I was going to say, it just is
00:50:38giving me absolutely nothing.
00:50:40I've got a runway
00:50:42of a boardwalk through here,
00:50:44then I've got another pathway on the side there.
00:50:46I've got all this wasted space around
00:50:48here as well, at the same time.
00:50:50It might be a budget thing, but there's no
00:50:52real big trees here that can have a canopy
00:50:54over it. And this has got enough area
00:50:56around to put trees with canopies
00:50:58around the pool.
00:51:00And while he liked the darkness of the pool,
00:51:02he wasn't a fan of the tiles.
00:51:04I don't love fake tiles.
00:51:06That, to me, is killing
00:51:08every other stonemason in Australia.
00:51:10Right now, looking at that, OK?
00:51:12Look, I'm sure it'd look great
00:51:14elsewhere, but just on the pool here,
00:51:16it's just too strong a pattern for me.
00:51:18It really just feels like a bit of a water feature,
00:51:20even though it's such a big
00:51:22pool. I question
00:51:24the amount of decking, the amount of
00:51:26sitting, the amount of amenity that's in this
00:51:28space. You have lots
00:51:30of walkways, lots of different
00:51:32pipes and different materials,
00:51:34but not a lot of function,
00:51:36not a lot of enjoyable space.
00:51:38Basically increase the size
00:51:40of the deck,
00:51:42which I'm assuming you needed more money,
00:51:44more time, more labour.
00:51:46Definitely. So that was probably impossible.
00:51:48Leaving the pool
00:51:50area, it was clear to everyone that a lot
00:51:52of time and effort had gone into the
00:51:54fire pit seat, so well
00:51:56done on that. But they thought
00:51:58the ground around it is not executed
00:52:00as well as House 2.
00:52:04Needed some more pavers.
00:52:06Because you're not walking over here in bare feet. No.
00:52:08On the pool. No. OK, so you're not walking on all this.
00:52:10So it's not that inviting.
00:52:12I think the ideas there just hasn't
00:52:14been finished off properly. Remember to main bedroom
00:52:16suite is right there. Those
00:52:18doors look out to here and they're
00:52:20going to look straight into the pool equipment,
00:52:22which I know there's probably
00:52:24a surround planned for that. Yeah.
00:52:26We're not seeing it. What we're seeing
00:52:28is that you're going to see the pool equipment
00:52:30from the main bedroom. And we need to judge what we're
00:52:32seeing and what we're seeing is just a
00:52:34really poorly planned,
00:52:36uninviting space.
00:52:38Clearly some time management issues
00:52:40around the rest of the garden too.
00:52:42More unfinished steps on
00:52:44the other side of the main bedroom.
00:52:46There's nothing about
00:52:48this that says, come and hang
00:52:50in my backyard. Look how excited we got
00:52:52in House 1 and 2 about all those different
00:52:54spaces to sit and talk
00:52:56and eat and share memories and
00:52:58all those amazing aspects of having a holiday
00:53:00home. Yeah. And then you walk into
00:53:02this house and they've just thought, you know what,
00:53:04let's not think of emotion, let's not
00:53:06think of marketing, let's not think of the buyer
00:53:08because that's how it feels. Yeah.
00:53:10They've just plonked things in without
00:53:12any consideration as to what
00:53:14people throw their hands up for
00:53:16come auction day.
00:53:18You know what, this house is
00:53:20still amazing. Wouldn't put me off
00:53:22buying this house. I
00:53:24think there's some stuff I want to do and
00:53:26change and fix, but it wouldn't put
00:53:28me off. It's a beautiful looking
00:53:30house from the outside. It actually
00:53:32has one of the two biggest pools
00:53:34on the block. It has lots of room around
00:53:36it and it's got access to the tennis
00:53:38court. I think
00:53:40it's still going to be really
00:53:42appealing. It's not as
00:53:44lifestyle focused as 1 and 2. It's not
00:53:46as fun as 3, but it's still a bloody
00:53:48great house. That's it, Carly.
00:53:50I've read some tough comments there, some
00:53:52strong positives. Also, only
00:53:54one week to go.
00:53:56That's exciting.
00:53:58Yeah,
00:54:00it was a tough week
00:54:02and yeah, there's
00:54:04definitely some things that we would have liked
00:54:06to have had finished, but
00:54:08I think there should have been maybe some earlier
00:54:10conversations about that it
00:54:12was not going to be able to be achieved.
00:54:16It is what it is.
00:54:18Yeah.
00:54:30Okay, House 5.
00:54:32Christian and Mimi.
00:54:36This week was
00:54:38organised chaos.
00:54:42House 5 has the largest backyard
00:54:44at a whopping 552
00:54:46square metres.
00:54:48I'm off
00:54:50to Cambridge.
00:54:52Oh my goodness.
00:54:54I definitely
00:54:56like grey. Yep.
00:54:58And the blue. Well, everything.
00:55:02I'm doing the landscaping for House 5.
00:55:04I need to get lots of things.
00:55:06Can I get 8 of those please? 4 of those
00:55:08lounges. 2 of those, 2 of
00:55:10those and 1 of those.
00:55:12I just love spending other people's money.
00:55:16How big's this? What's this like?
00:55:189 by 6.
00:55:20They're very popular, these basketball courts.
00:55:22The kids still want to be able to
00:55:24shoot properly from a foul line and a 3 point line.
00:55:26Yeah, yeah, yeah. So anything underneath
00:55:28that, they don't really like it.
00:55:30So I'm here today to show
00:55:32you about the Legrand automation switches.
00:55:34The fun side of it, you can create
00:55:36like a party scene. You can use the app
00:55:38on the phone and the lights that you
00:55:40want to come on will come on, the music that you
00:55:42want to come on will come on. Oh, that's awesome.
00:55:44So we've
00:55:46organised your automation.
00:55:48You can just go onto the app and
00:55:50press that button and it will work for you.
00:55:52Okay.
00:55:54Oh!
00:55:56How good's that?
00:55:58It changes colour.
00:56:08I absolutely love what we see in our
00:56:10backyard. I think you can
00:56:12picture kids running around the pool,
00:56:14having a swim, parents
00:56:16sitting back, being able to watch them.
00:56:18I think it all ties in
00:56:20really well together.
00:56:22Walking
00:56:24into your backyard, the faces of the
00:56:26judges were shocked
00:56:28in a good way.
00:56:32Wow, that's
00:56:34dramatic. Look at the tiling.
00:56:36That is stunning.
00:56:38Wow. Another big
00:56:40pool. Yeah.
00:56:42And I love this mosaic tiling around it.
00:56:44As soon as you walk in, you're drawn
00:56:46to it. A dust screen resort.
00:56:48Even though it's just a small
00:56:50deck with two chairs, you've got all the
00:56:52grass around there that you could lay on as
00:56:54well and be part of the pool environment.
00:56:56I all love the piers
00:56:58wrapped in rope. It's very Phillip Island.
00:57:00It makes you feel coastal.
00:57:02It's like they've picked up a piece of
00:57:04Phillip Island and they've put it here in the
00:57:06landscaping for us. That's really effective. Exactly.
00:57:08Shona thinks the colour palette is
00:57:10excellent and the furniture around the
00:57:12pool is superb.
00:57:14Cameric, I presume.
00:57:16You've got the blue stone, you've got the
00:57:18travertine, then you have this beautiful
00:57:20bluey gunmetal for the pool
00:57:22and then you have green, so there's a lot of different
00:57:24textures and colours.
00:57:26It's absolutely stunning.
00:57:28See, I was nervous for these guys because this is the
00:57:30only space that's not directly off the
00:57:32living, so this really has to be
00:57:34hit out of the ballpark. I think there's a whole
00:57:36half over the other side and down here.
00:57:40This is quite beautiful.
00:57:44Dave loved
00:57:46the boats and discovered
00:57:48it was full of rum.
00:57:50But isn't this cool? So they've obviously
00:57:52grabbed it from Facebook market
00:57:54share or hopefully somewhere local around here
00:57:56cut this up, put this here
00:57:58as a bar. Lots of rum,
00:58:00so you feel like a pirate.
00:58:02But
00:58:04after that with the pube holes, it is
00:58:06coming back to fill up on.
00:58:08A really nice touch,
00:58:10perfect for a holiday home.
00:58:12You were criticised heavily in the past few
00:58:14weeks for your layout and design
00:58:16to have a TV room
00:58:18leading onto this space.
00:58:22This has zero connection
00:58:24to lifestyle
00:58:26outside. Shouldn't this
00:58:28be a place that is pool friendly?
00:58:30They could have done something
00:58:32interesting here with a tiled
00:58:34space that flowed out to the outdoors
00:58:36because of this big sliding door.
00:58:38It could have actually read as an indoor
00:58:40outdoor alfresco space that continued
00:58:42onto the outdoors. And while this garden
00:58:44is amazing and all the judges
00:58:46thought so, that came up
00:58:48again today. Did they get it wrong
00:58:50or did they get it right now?
00:58:52Looking at the space, Marty thinks the
00:58:54TV room needs a fridge
00:58:56etc to service the dining area.
00:58:58The big issue that the buyer will
00:59:00actually face when inspecting is
00:59:02they see a big dining table
00:59:04and they think to themselves, great, dinner
00:59:06parties or entertaining, but it is
00:59:08such a long walk
00:59:10from the kitchen that this
00:59:12is actually quite a difficult place to
00:59:14entertain people over dinner. Where's the barbie?
00:59:16There is no barbie here. That's a smoker.
00:59:18Did you win the Wolf BBQ?
00:59:20Yes, we did. Where is
00:59:22the Wolf BBQ going? On the
00:59:24balcony. On the balcony upstairs?
00:59:26Yes.
00:59:28This is where the Wolf BBQ
00:59:30should have been they said.
00:59:32This is backyard week on the block.
00:59:34You need to have a BBQ.
00:59:36Un-Australian. It is un-Australian.
00:59:38Well, when you're playing
00:59:40in the pool and the kids, just to
00:59:42have a sausage on bread is one of the easiest things
00:59:44for them. You don't want to go running upstairs
00:59:46the whole time. If you're going to have a
00:59:48smoker here and you're going to have
00:59:50cold drinks and things like that
00:59:52you need a fridge and you need a sink.
00:59:54So to really function as a dining space
00:59:56you need to make more kitchenette
00:59:58amenities in the laundry
01:00:00or the TV room. Or an
01:00:02outdoor kitchen like House 2's
01:00:04right here in this space.
01:00:06Meandering down the path
01:00:08towards the basketball court.
01:00:10Oh,
01:00:12and another court.
01:00:14They found a bigger court than House
01:00:161 with a three point line.
01:00:18This is cool.
01:00:20So this is the block 2024
01:00:22House 5. Yeah.
01:00:24This is cool. And the judges also
01:00:26found a fire pit with a dry stone wall.
01:00:28Dave's favourite fire pit
01:00:30area he's seen today.
01:00:32I love this. I think this is one of my favourite
01:00:34parts of the whole job here.
01:00:36It is that hard doing stuff like that.
01:00:38Darren thinks
01:00:40what this garden and this house delivers
01:00:42on is privacy.
01:00:44Look around. Look at what
01:00:46we're looking at. It's private. We're not, exactly.
01:00:48We're seeing lots of trees and lots of sky.
01:00:50We don't have an immediate
01:00:52neighbour here. We don't have an immediate neighbour there.
01:00:54It's privacy.
01:00:56It's a cracker.
01:01:00This week the judges saw five backyards
01:01:02that are all bigger than most of the gardens
01:01:04ever delivered on
01:01:06the block. They think it's a real achievement
01:01:08for all of you
01:01:10and I mean all of you today.
01:01:12The hardest thing is, is that
01:01:14we've got to pick a winner and it's really not that
01:01:16easy today. Not today. It really isn't.
01:01:18The standard, as much as
01:01:20we've been a bit negative on something, the standard
01:01:22is so damn high.
01:01:24Brilliant effort. Well done everybody. Give yourselves
01:01:26all a round of applause.
01:01:28Okay, let's get the scores.
01:01:36Okay, here we go.
01:01:42Dave Frank first.
01:01:44Maddie and Charlotte.
01:01:46So we've got a very coastal palette of trees
01:01:48here and we have a lot of lawn as well.
01:01:54Courtney and
01:01:56Karumpy.
01:01:58This is garden art.
01:02:04Ricky and Hayden.
01:02:06Could do with some more
01:02:08layers but it might just sell as a place
01:02:10because you can do whatever you like with this garden.
01:02:18Charlie and Brad.
01:02:20I've got all this wasted space around here.
01:02:22I'm sorry, it's just giving me absolutely
01:02:24nothing.
01:02:30Christian and Mimi.
01:02:32As soon as you walk in, you're drawn to it.
01:02:34A dust screen resort to me.
01:02:38Next results.
01:02:40Darren and Maddie.
01:02:42Double whammy. Darren first.
01:02:44Maddie and Charlotte.
01:02:46Time, planning, finish,
01:02:48amenity, tick, tick,
01:02:50tick, tick, tick.
01:02:54Courtney and Karumpy.
01:02:56It's miraculous that it's
01:02:58this good in this time frame.
01:03:00Like, mind-blowing.
01:03:08Sorry, that was an overreaction.
01:03:10I love that reaction.
01:03:13Ricky and Hayden.
01:03:15It's consistent with the inside of the house.
01:03:17It's actually really appropriate for family
01:03:19living. It's not chic.
01:03:21It's fun.
01:03:25Charlie and Brad.
01:03:27I question
01:03:29the amount of decking, the amount of sitting,
01:03:31the amount of amenity that's in this
01:03:33space.
01:03:38And Christian and Mimi.
01:03:40It's like they've picked up a piece of fillipile
01:03:42and they've put it here in the landscaping
01:03:44for us. That's really effective.
01:03:49Okay, Marty.
01:03:51Maddie and Charlotte.
01:03:53This is clearly an entertainer's dream.
01:04:00Courtney and Karumpy.
01:04:02This indoor-outdoor flow,
01:04:04this is what people pay for.
01:04:06This is what gets them emotionally connected to a property.
01:04:11Ricky and Hayden.
01:04:13That's the quintessential Aussie
01:04:15back garden.
01:04:21Charlie and Brad.
01:04:23What we're seeing is just a really
01:04:25poorly planned, uninviting
01:04:27space.
01:04:34Christian and Mimi.
01:04:36Oh, look at the tiling.
01:04:38Oh, look at the tiling.
01:04:40That is stunning.
01:04:46Okay, I'll see you in a bit.
01:04:48Shadablaze.
01:04:50Maddie and Charlotte.
01:04:52What an oasis.
01:04:54It's beautiful.
01:04:56Courtney and Grumps.
01:04:58They've always known how to sell the dream.
01:05:00Ricky and Hayden.
01:05:02It ticks so many boxes.
01:05:04It just doesn't have the finesse and the finishings.
01:05:06Kylie and Brad.
01:05:08There's nothing about this that says
01:05:10come and hang in my backyard.
01:05:12And Christian
01:05:14and Mimi.
01:05:16The choice of materials is stunning.
01:05:18Okay, totals.
01:05:24Okay.
01:05:26The winner of week
01:05:2811 on the Block Backyard Week
01:05:30and taking home $10,000
01:05:32from Ford is
01:05:36$10,000.
01:05:38It's Courtney
01:05:40and Grumpy.
01:05:50I cannot
01:05:52believe it.
01:05:54It is a massive spring
01:05:56in my step now. We could totally end this competition
01:05:58happy regardless of what happens at auction.
01:06:00We got our 10.
01:06:02We're very happy with that.
01:06:04We got two 10s.
01:06:06Get a quarter of this feeling on auction night. It'll be great.
01:06:08Courtney and Grant scored a massive
01:06:1039 out of 40 with
01:06:1210s from both Darren and Shaina.
01:06:14The girls came runner up with
01:06:1637 points while Christian and Mimi
01:06:18took out third place with 35.
01:06:20Ricky and Hayden's
01:06:22solo landscaping efforts netted them
01:06:24fourth place with 32.
01:06:26And Kylie and Brad came a distant
01:06:28last with just 27
01:06:30points.
01:06:32Congratulations Courtney and Grumpy.
01:06:34You're not grumpy tonight champ.
01:06:36No way. $10,000 from Ford
01:06:38and another $20,000
01:06:40from Arnas for two 10s.
01:06:42$30,000 night. Well done.
01:06:44Thanks buddy.
01:06:46Congratulations. And guess what?
01:06:48Tomorrow night
01:06:50we're heading overseas.
01:06:52What?
01:06:54That's right.
01:06:56You're getting on the ferry down here.
01:06:58You're heading over to the Mornington Peninsula
01:07:00and we're going to head out to the
01:07:02Flinders Hotel and have a fantastic night
01:07:04with some VIP guests and I guarantee
01:07:06you'll have lots and lots of laughs.
01:07:08It's going to be a lot of fun.
01:07:10See you tomorrow night. Well done everybody.
01:07:12It's been a tough week. Wet, cold.
01:07:14You did a great job. One week to go.
01:07:16See you later. Good night.
01:07:22Call your mum.
01:07:24We came
01:07:26first. We got two 10s and got 39
01:07:28out of 40.
01:07:30We got $30,000.
01:07:32You got $30,000.
01:07:34We won $30,000 tonight.
01:07:36I'm very proud of both of you.
01:07:40You guys going to get
01:07:42through this week together?
01:07:44I think this week's definitely
01:07:46going to test everything
01:07:48we've got.
01:07:52Coming up on the block
01:07:54the end begins.
01:07:56I don't particularly
01:07:58like that.
01:08:00As our teams tackle their final space.
01:08:02Front gardens and facades.
01:08:06This is so much to do.
01:08:08It's insane.
01:08:10This is it for the houses.
01:08:12This is it. That looks lush
01:08:14and expensive
01:08:16and inviting.
01:08:18And in just over a week's time
01:08:20it's a block reunion.
01:08:22Come on out troops.
01:08:24As our all stars come together
01:08:26to help finish the clubhouse
01:08:28and give one of our teams a chance
01:08:30to get $50,000 off
01:08:32their reserve. We've got a lot to do.
01:08:34There's a lot to do. It's good to be back.
01:08:36Back with a bang.
01:08:38Another beautiful day in paradise.
01:08:40I'm home. I'm home.
01:08:42Then it's the big day
01:08:44as our island resorts go under the hammer.
01:08:48But will all couples make it
01:08:50to the auction?
01:08:52It feels like it was beyond me. I deserve so much better.
01:08:54How little I mean to him
01:08:56is really sad.
01:09:00I just want to go home.
01:09:02Can we have a break?
01:09:10She's gone.
01:09:12So you think she's literally just
01:09:14jumped on a plane home?
01:09:16Yeah.
