00:00You've called this your most personal film yet. Why is this project so personal to you?
00:05well because of the music and
00:09And because probably is the movie that where I have felt so far that I'm more exposed
00:17I'm someone that have I think I know a lot more about
00:22Music than cinema for example, I don't consider myself a cinephile
00:26but I've
00:27Spent many many years of my life listening to music. I try to be a musician
00:32I failed and then opera was somehow my
00:36way to the art form the art world and
00:41and
00:42So it's very intimate my relationship with music with opera and of course with the figure of Maria Callas
00:48And in a way, I feel that
00:51There's a part of me inside of that movie that I that I don't know
00:56I care a lot about it. And I think I
01:00Had the chance I'm very lucky to make the movie Angelina does something really extraordinary and beautiful
01:06But there's a fragment of myself that is inside of that movie that it won't return that I just gave it to it
01:15So that's why I think that's coming from
01:18It sounds like Angelina gave so much of herself to this movie to into this role
01:22How did you know she was the right person to play Maria in this film? I don't know
01:26I don't have a rational answer to that. I
01:28It just feels the right person and I I don't think this movie would exist without her
01:34Was her first and then I invited Steve Knight and then we went to the producers and then we got the money and a new
01:40Distribution. She was the first call I did
01:45And it's someone that can carry that mystery can really
01:50Do that someone has a lot of discipline
01:52But those things are important she can really work and they focus and prepare a role for many many months and get there and
02:00Embrace the story of a woman that we respect that we care
02:05But also that we consider to be fascinating
02:09And that's fascination can be filmed
02:11Hopefully and that is something that she embodies and that's that's the way that she has and cameras so important
