00:00To film Thomas Jefferson on the grounds at Monticello was truly an amazing moment for us.
00:06Jefferson felt trapped. His plantations needed slave labor to compete and survive.
00:12While they were setting up the Jefferson shot, I noticed that the actor playing Thomas Jefferson
00:19was kind of just standing on the portico. So I ran behind him and crouched in the doorway
00:26and started shooting. It excited me to be in those sacred spots.
00:33Here we are, September 1787. We turned that visual page of history right back to the moment.
00:39We've got George Washington, James Madison, Patrick Henry, Benjamin Franklin.
00:44It truly was a magical day for us.
00:47America's first freedom was like nothing else that I've ever done.
00:53So many X's and O's of history were cemented into place, into my soul.
00:59They were seared into my soul because we stood in those spots.
01:04As I think of the locations we were in, we truly stood on sacred ground.
01:10I just sat there and shot and shot and shot until I had no more room on my cards
01:16because I was in awe of what I was seeing.
01:20Everything, for some reason, took on such great significance.
01:23So I just walked around taking pictures, tons and tons of pictures that were loaded emotionally for me.
01:31And hopefully that carries through into the final product.
01:36I am thrilled that PBS Television is broadcasting this to a nationwide audience.
01:41Freedom of conscience is truly a gift.
