00:00We're here at Ready Steady Sew, just on the outskirts of Whitchurch, and Rosie this is your place!
00:05That's right!
00:06So what happens here then? What magic happens under this roof Rosie?
00:10So here at Ready Steady Sew we teach dressmaking classes, so I teach people from the complete
00:16beginners to those who are a bit more intermediate and advanced how to make their own clothes.
00:21So you do kind of like five, six week courses, different levels,
00:24and then there's even little one-off sessions for specific little...
00:28That's right, yeah, so we have a number of courses on offer here at Ready Steady Sew.
00:33So our very popular beginner dressmaking course has three levels, each level six weeks,
00:39and you can come and learn all the basics of dressmaking so you can start to make your own
00:42clothes. We have a make your own clothes class where if you're a bit further along in your
00:47dressmaking journey you can bring your own projects and have my expert guided help to
00:51create those. We've got pattern cutting classes if you want to learn to design and draft your
00:56clothes, one-off workshops on things like how to use your overlocker and sewing in zips,
01:00and the possibilities are endless.
01:03Do you find that people, when they bring their own projects, are they kind of making an act for
01:07it for a special occasion or is it just that generally they want to up their skills?
01:11Yeah, so most people just want to learn how to make their own clothes that they can wear,
01:15so a lot of women find that clothes that they buy on the high street just don't fit them properly,
01:20or they don't like the style of them, and they enjoy sewing as a hobby,
01:23so they want to come and learn to create their own clothes. So in the make your own
01:27clothes class that we have, we have a theme every term, so this time's theme is hoodies,
01:31so the ladies are working on creating their own hoodies for their wardrobe.
01:37And I should imagine with the the rise of the the second-hand sales marketplaces like Vinted
01:42and Facebook marketplace, is there a lot of kind of buying clothes and adapting them and
01:47customising them and that kind of stuff going on?
01:49Some people do do that as well, but I would say the majority of my students like to make something
01:54from start to finish, I think that gives them a sense of achievement as well when they've been
01:58able to do that. Yeah, well this jacket that's next to you, it was your partner's blazer jacket
02:05wasn't it? It was, yes. He didn't go shopping at Tesco with it looking like that though did he?
02:09No he didn't, I customised this jacket for when I went to go and see Taylor Swift at the
02:14Eros tour in the summer. Yeah. So this is a very similar jacket to a jacket that she wears
02:20on the tour. Fantastic, I mean if you just hold that sleeve out it kind of dangles down just
02:24lovely doesn't it? I can imagine if you're dancing around in that, it's yeah. It looks amazing, so
02:29cool. And the little, what do we call it? A jacket? A jumper? I'm not sure what we call it.
02:37Vest, yeah. I crocheted this, I've just learned myself to crochet, so this was my first project
02:43that I've crocheted. Fantastic, so your route into this world, you studied at Shrewsbury College
02:48initially is that right? That's right yeah, back in, I think we're talking 2006. Yeah. I studied
02:54fashion design technology at Shrewsbury College at parts.
