We visit the School of Sew in Farsley
Transcript
00:00Hi my name's Nicola Lee and I'm the owner of School of Sew here in Farsley in St Ivank Mills.
00:06The school has been running now for about nine years and we teach from beginners up to
00:13intermediates, all sorts of sewing. Yeah we do lots of courses, lots of sewing retreats,
00:20lots of lessons, lots of students have been to us and yeah we're just growing and growing really.
00:26And how has the great British sewing bee affected the business?
00:32So yeah obviously it's been great for us with them filming in the location not too far away
00:36from us but sewing is growing anyway so these things do help and it's a very popular show and
00:44we're very glad that it's here and we just carry on doing day-to-day things and hopefully people
00:50will find us and come along to the school and just we hopefully will just enthuse people to
00:56carry on sewing. And tell me about the collaboration with your daughter and with Mill Creations.
01:04Okay so back in 2021 I decided to close my curtain business that I had and we made the shop,
01:13so Mill Creations is a shop where we sell lots and lots of haberdashery things, lots of fabrics.
01:19We're also a dealer for Brother Sewing Machines so we're the only dealer in Leeds
01:24and so that's going really well so students come to learn to sew in the school and then
01:30buy a sewing machine from me hopefully. So Isabel came along right from the beginning,
01:35helped me knock walls down, put walls back up, painting, you name it we did it, built the shop up
01:41and that's coming up four years in September and she learned to sew as well which was an added bonus
01:47because there's a few generations in the family that sew,
01:50so yeah it's just great to be working alongside her every day.
